He's currently 1st in OPS in all of the minor leagues in Dodgers triple A.

.397 average

.733 SLG
1.236 OPS

9 HR's
30 Rbi
10 doubles

6'-5", 250 lbs., LFer
RH
26 years old

2012 - .982 OPS, 18 HR, triple A
2011 - 1.022 OPS, 20 HR, double A

Blocked by Dodgers current OF.

Why not make a prospect swap for him. Then see how hits at Louisville?

I think the Dodgers have realized they need him on their bench.

Don't the Dodgers have starting pitching problems? Hmmm.

I'm intrigued by his pedigree, but he looked overmatched in his big league stint last year and reminded me of your classic Quad A player. Still, I'd probably take a flyer on him if possible.

Reynolds for Van Slyke?

Reynolds for Van Slyke?

I was wondering if Sharky Rogers for Van Slyke would work.

Why?

Why?

Reds minor league hitters offer limited options for the major league club, if any alternatives.

I just think it's time to cash in some of the second tier pitching and possibly do a prospect swap if you can find a willing partner.

Van Slyke has raked with an OPS of .982 or higher the last 3 seasons, 2 years ago in double A, last year in triple A, and again raking even more this year in triple A. The naysayers blame it on the PCL. Dude is blocked by the Dodgers major league outfield. I'm just suggesting a prospect swap. Give them something they're lacking to acquire something the Reds are lacking.

If you can acquire him, let him hit at Louisville for a month and if he continues to rake........maybe you bring him up.

It's a harmless attempt to improve the ballclub, if nothing less than improve the options at Louisville.

I think this is for good reason. The PCL is notorious for turning young players into fool's gold. Remember Dallas McPherson? Brandon Wood?

I'd take a flyer on Van Slyke. I wouldn't give up a whole lot. But if the Dodgers wanted to swap prospects to fill needs. I'm on board.

Van Slyke has a huge hole in his swing. He has a slider speed bat. He's been exposed when he was in the majors earlier. He'd make Chris Heisey look like Matt Holliday if he ever got an extended look.

A definite pass for me.

Brandon Wood had strikeout problems. He was a huge prospect long before he ever saw the PCL. Same for McPherson.

The PCL (and Texas and California Leagues) will turn non hitters into power hitters. But "we" get fooled less and less now that this whole statistical analysis stuff is reaching the prospect rankings and we understand what is and isn't sustainable.

What does it all say about Van Slyke?

"itís tempting to slap him with the "Quadruple-A" label. Tempting, and wrong."

Whoops.

Van Slyke is making it much more difficult to make a prospect swap... Two home runs tonight for the Dodgers

Yep. 5 games with the Dodgers major league club and 3 HR's.

I wanted to get him last year. Oh well.
