I've only started a game thread once before. Thought I'd mix it up a little to break us out of the doldrums:

Robinson CF
Heisey LF
Votto 1B
Phillips 2B
Bruce RF
Frazier 3B
Cozart SS
Miller C
Bailey RHP

Go Reds!

I'm not seeing the Padres' lineup yet, but if you can put it up once it's out, that would be great. I have some work I have to concentrate on.

Hope I didn't step on your toes.

Yes. Seems like a control artist, not a high strikeout pitcher, very few walks.

I hate to nitpick at the lineup but sitting Mesoraco makes no sense.

1. His slash line against lefties: .345 | .433 | .534 | .967
2. His post All-Star slash line: .318 | .333 | .545 | .878
3. Corky Miller is his replacement.
4. Tomorrow's off day

This team is struggling to score runs. On paper this does not help.

If the Reds released Corky tomorrow, would any team in baseball sign him?

EDIT: Rosenthal reporting St. Louis is after Navarro. I suppose they'd rather have a potentially productive hitter than a mascot. I guess that's why they are such a poorly-run organization.

I don't think he has a chip, and he looked good with the Reds. Probably was many, apparently including Jerry Narron, expected him to have the power he flashed in the minors to seamlessly replace Austin Kearns in RF. When he didn't show it in 2-3 weeks (and he obviously never did develop it), he was disowned.

What is the deal with the running game? BP last week (2) idiot moves. Cozart last night. Robinson today. Just makes you want to slam your head against the wall.

It's past mid season. You guys are major league players making gaffe's a HS coach would kick your but for doing. Pathetic.

Anyone know if these guys still get fined for doing stuff? I remember Sparky fining guys and they really didn't like it. I know the money today is much different and maybe they can't fine anymore per the CBA, but I'd sure like to see the look on one of these guys faces when they received a $10K fine for being an idiot.

Or Dusty could just yank him off the field. I remember what happened down here in Atlanta when Bobby Cox took Andrew Jones out of CF for not hustling. It was great, and he learned his lesson.

I don't know what you guys are complaining about. BP got Homer a run. That's all he needs. You don't want to get greedy here and expect them to give him more than 1.

Homer is one of the least supported pitchers in the NL. He only gets an average of 3.3 runs per game in offense. On the other hand, Latos gets over 5.5 runs per game.

You look at the Reds four best hitters: Votto, Choo, Phillips, Bruce. They all hit the ball the other way consistently. Votto and Choo moreso than the others.

You think the Reds young hitters, Mesoraco, Frazier, Cozart, would say, "Hey, I wonder if there's a reason why they're so successful. Maybe I shouldn't try to yank everything to RF?" Those three will have a tough time consistently having a BA over .250 with their current approaches.

I was in the camp that thought they would regress, so I don't disagree with what you're saying. But I also am in a camp that think the Pirates are going to have to face the music if/when their bullpen comes down to reality and the number of innings catches up with them (not to mention now they don't even have Grilli for most or all of the regular season). I just think the Cardinals are still in better shape than the Pirates, their schedule notwithstanding.

Maybe it's overstated due to the grueling schedule the Cardinals continue to have until mid-September. But while the Pirates are a good club, I just don't think they're this good.
