Can anybody explain to me how a guy who never played above Double A ball ( and hit .190 there) can be a hitting coach? From what we've seen so far he's not much of a teacher.

Because skills don't necessarily translate to being able to coach? Some of the best hitting coaches never hit well at the pro level. Ever heard of Charlie Lau? Dave Duncan is one of the best pitching coaches ever and he didn't even pitch.
