Pirates lead Tigers 4-2 in the sixth. Pirates may be the toughest of the WC competitors right now.

Braves trail Dodgers 3-2 in the eighth. Reds should be able to beat out Braves in WC, Braves not playing well, tough sched.

Cards trail Marlins 3-0 in the eighth, Cards struggling but Reds need to beat them head to head.

Brewers down 2-0 to Cubs in the fifth, Brewers will be tough to catch.

Reds fans aren't satisfied with anything. However, the large majority of reds fans are happy that Broxton had an ERA of 1.07 after 42 innings going into this outing. Most reds fans are also realists and understand that an ERA of 0.00 is impossible and that sometimes mistake pitches are made and that it's unreasonable to bash the pitcher and managers when the mistake pitches do happen.

It's true that there generally aren't the scathing articles about the Reds in Cincy, but beat wrtiers certainly do ask him about his decisions after the game involving pitching to certain guys, leaving certain guys in, etc.

Also even in hypercritical markets like NY nobody goes to Girardi post game and starts calling him an idiot, respect is a big part of the process.

I'm pretty vocal about adding offense.

But since the offense is weak, when you have a 2-1 lead late, you have to be aggressive preserving the lead.

You can't take your chances with the HR derby winner. Probably you won't catch up if he loses one.

Chapman should have been warming up during the 8th and should have entered the game when there was a man on second and two outs. Said it at the time. It makes no sense to use Chapman as the closer if you're not willing to pitch him multiple innings. Price acted like he was going to do it, but he's done it like 2 times all year.

Players have hit better than Heisey and received more grief than what he does from people who keep loving him.......but there are fewer here I am sure in the last year.

The fact, like Malcotent stated... that he keeps starting and just being used is an indictment of Walt and his inability to even LOOK at Perez as an option.

Cozart hitting against that RHP was stupid.

With all due respect Sir Charles.... all Cozart tries to do is pull the ball..... his hit chart might say RF but it is because he is so bad at hitting that when he tries to pull outside breaking balls all he can do is pop up with that stupid swing of his. But no..... NO PH for Popzart. Makes too much sense to do so.

Does every edging loss come down to Cozart?I get the feeling that Price and Luddy don't get along. Guy is hitting 40 points above Heisey (shudder), Schumaker, Bruce, Cozart, and many others. Yet, he is the last guy to even be looked at on the bench. I get the feeling that Price, unfortunately, feels that these guys are better than Ludwick, which is totally insane. I think Price has a doghouse and it's not dependent on performance. Now, that's a guess, and I hope that's the case because if he thinks those other guys are better right now, it's time to call the guys in the white suits.

I think there is a lot more going on behind the scenes with Ludwick than we will ever hear about publicly.

He is going to sit at least 1/3 of the time anyways(he has done that since the first day he got here), on top of that, there was the rumblings of the team trying to shop him at the deadline.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that he is sitting just a little more than usual, because the team may be hoping to move him this month, and don't want to risk injury.

I tend to think that's not the case. When Price made his bold statement that He was going to platoon Ludwick, it had to be a turning point. I wasn't there, but reports are that Ludwick was very mad and upset and Price refused to talk to him or he wasn't notified beforehand--I've heard both. I'd say that's the root of the problem. Witness his last interview with Jim Day after a rare win. Ludwick wasn't jovial nor was he himself. I think there's trouble in that clubhouse. Maybe the absence of Phillips and Votto is at the root of the problem or maybe it's something else?

In a little digging here is what I found on the Enquirer's website about Ludwick,

On May 21st, he talks about dealing with a quad type of injury,

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/mlb/reds/2014/05/21/reds-ludwick-feels-good-play-despite-mystery-injury/2344660/

"I don't know exactly what it would be classified as, a knee or quad strain," Ludwick said. "It happened in Philly, on that ball that (John) Mayberry hit down the line (Sunday) that I thought was going to tuck into that little alcove, and it ended up going by, so I had to change directions around the corner and then it got stuck beneath the fence and I had to change directions again. I could play today."

Then on June 1st, it was said that LF would be a shared position going forward,

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/redsblog/2014/06/01/schumaker-heisey-in-reds-mix-with-ludwick-in-left/9841431/

PHOENIX -- Ryan Ludwick started in left field for the first time in three games Sunday. Ludwick, heretofore the starter, is no longer going to play every day -- or close to it.

"We're going to mix and match," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "I've spoke to Ryan about that. I'm also optimistic he'll get himself into full swing and have more impact over the course of the year. But I felt like we needed to give some other guys some opportunity to get out there and perform.

"He was very professional about it. It's a very difficult situation to talk to an established player about playing time. But he was a total pro about it. I really appreciated that. He could have made it more difficult."

I never heard that Ludwick was upset about it, or got angry with Price, but the Reds wouldn't say either way if he did really.

I think this loss pretty much did it for the season. It would take an extended good run for them win the division or even make the wild card and that isn't happening with this offense. If Votto,Phillips and another good bat suddenly appear on the scene I might change my mind. But I know that's a pipe dream. Maybe they will make the necesary changes this winter, like another good bat or two, and get everyone healthy then 2015 should be a good season.

At this point I'm only hoping for a winning season and maybe a third place finish. As of now, I don't think either will happen.
