Price tag is supposedly really high.

The Reds will be outbid by a large margin. I'll be very surprised if Tomas doesn't get 5/75 or more, both in years and dollars. The Tigers and Phillies are thought to be in on him heavy. Just about all teams have some interest but most will decline due to the money and perceived risk. I'd pass given the size of contract we're talking about. Risk is just too great. He is average or worse defensively, isn't fast, and strikes out a lot. He could end up a high K, low OBP medium power hitter or he could be the next Abreu. Is 100 million worth finding out?

No chance they spend that kind of dough, unfortunately.

Moncada would be an interesting addition.

Looks like Aoki and Morse are our targets.

I think Tomas gets 8 years and $110M

Aoki gets on base. Huge issue for this team.

I have to agree. It may come down to how many years he's looking for. Some reports say he wants 3 years. reds probably won't do that.

Looking like interest in Tomas is waning in some quarters. Phillies cooling on him and see him as a DH. Now the talk is he gets less than $100M.

Even at 50 million if its true he's a statue in the field, does it make sense to invest that money in him? Especially since there is no guarantee he'll be a great hitter either. I'd much rather bust the International budget on Moncada and find a LFer somewhere else

Yeah. Tomas doesn't make a lot of sense with the outfield surplus about to hit. (unless you abide by the more is always better mantra) Moncada is a far more valuable piece for the future considering his positional flexibility. He could step in for Phillips, Frazier, Votto, Bruce, Hamilton, or play LF.

Yoan Moncada is one of the best Cuban prospects this year and is said to be a potential 1-1 player if he were eligible for the draft. He's a 19 year old middle infielder with loads of potential. I wouldn't mind the Reds dishing out some cash to get him...too bad they're maxed out already.

First time poster here. I think we should go after Chris Coghlan from the Cubs for LF. He is a line drive gap to gap hitter with a little pop and speed. He had above an .800 OPS last year so he is somewhat of an unknown talent resurrecting his career and he is still young and cheap. It appears the Cubs are looking to upgrade his position so he might be available.
