Why oh why is Negron ever starting? He's hitting .133 in 75 at bats with a .147 slugging pct. The time should be given to Ivan DeJesus Jr. who has only 4 less hits in 54 less at bats and has 2 homers and 5rbis more than Negron and is hitting .286 . The love for Negron by the Reds I do not understand. By now Negron and Boesch should both be at Louisville and Yorman Rodriguez given a chance in left and as the back up in cf and rf. Just doesn't make sense to me.

I'd think outside the box and bat Leake 9th. Let his OBP set the table for the top of the lineup.

I was going to complain about Skip leading off, but then I realized there wasn't a better option. This roster was a train wreck before the injuries, now it is a Hindenburg reenactment.

RedTeamGo!
06-13-2015, 06:18 PM
There is literally no excuse outside of injury to play Negron over De Jesus at this point. Ridiculous.

Tony Cloninger
06-13-2015, 06:34 PM
I read in the Enquirer that while Suarez will get the most starts that Negron will still be there to make more starts. Because?.....He was so good last year that he cemented....cemented his spot on the 25 ( I mean 23 man roster since at least 2 players are always almost DL hurt but not quite)

So there you have it. A disposable player ...the last man on the bench really he should be, like Darrell Chaney was or Joel Youngblood was in 1976 has cemented himself up here. The difference was that those Reds could carry players like Ed Crosby and those aforementioned ones.

I know that if Davey and Morgan were hurt that Flynn and Chaney would have been stuck playing more back in the day... but the Reds also would have brought up someone who could hit and be at least average to above as well. Like Ray Knight or Junior Kennedy who were in the minors back in 1975-76.

Some parts of the lineup can't be helped, this can be:

Split G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
Batting 2nd 33 150 122 27 41 7 2 12 29 2 0 27 23 .336 .460 .721 1.181
Batting 3rd 25 106 96 6 23 5 0 1 6 3 1 10 24 .240 .311 .323 .634

Just stop it and leave Votto 2nd.

Just stop it.

I call this the "BP Effect." Votto used to be the opposite of a hot dog. Now he makes hot dog plays quite often in the field (he's not a hot dog at the plate like BP). At least this time it worked in our favor ... and will be prominently featured on highlight reels.

Well, it's hard to pick a winner for the award tonight. It's late, so I'm going to give it to one of our guys who played well.

So tonight's "Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game Award" goes to Ryan Mattheus, who pitched two scoreless innings of relief after the rain delay, including an excellent performance in the eighth inning to get out of a tight spot.

(I thought about giving the award to Cubs 3B Kris Bryant, but I figured with it being almost 1 AM it would be difficult to get an opposing player for the interview, and easier to get one of our own.)

I think this is one of the weakest attacks on Price I've seen.

Cingrani's a relief pitcher who's worked six times in less than half a month. To get innings, you need to get outs. Tonight he got 0 innings. And 0 outs. Whose fault is that?

And relief usage depends on the situation. Is Price supposed to ask for the game situation to be revised to accomodate more innings for Tony?

Weak, weak argument. The guy has had plenty of opportunity and is simply inconsistent.

At the core of Cingrani's issues is that he was terrific, got hurt, and has not returned to form. He was hurt in 2013. He was hurt in 2014.

No fair discussion of Cingrani can ignore the injuries he has suffered, and from which he has never truly returned to form.

What is your opinion that 'he's not good' based on besides tonight and the grand slam allowed to Alonso?

I see a reliever right now who is walking way too many guys, but is not allowing many hits, very little home runs, and raking up a lot of strikeouts. I see a guy who dominated the minors as a starter, excelled in his first year in the rotation, and had a great first month in his second year starting for the Reds before succumbing to arm troubles.

I think he should be starting either in Louisville or on the Reds. It's pretty obvious his heart is not into relieving, the reverse Aroldis Chapman.

The move to reliever upset Cingrani. That was reported by the beat writers. A good manager fixes that problem. Gets the player on the same page. It's pretty obvious to everyone watching that Cingrani is still upset he's a reliever. That's on him. He's being a baby. Doing something about it is on Price.

A decent MLB manager gains control of his team through respect. It's beyond clear that at the very least, Cingrani doesn't respect Price. Price needs to do something to get Cingrani's respect, to get Cingrani to play for him. And I have a feeling Cingrani isn't the only player who doesn't respect Price. This is all very reminiscent of Dave Miley.

Do you honestly think that that there is nothing going on personality wise between Price and Cingrani? That everything is peachy keen between them, and that this is just the result of Cingrani not recovering from his injury?

I see no indication whatsoever of any personal or professional issue between Cingrani and Price.

I do believe that initially Cingrani wanted to remain a starter, but then he showed determination to do well in the pen.

Price has always spoken favorably of Cingrani in his public comments to my recollection.

TC was injured in 2013 and 2014 and sometimes a pitcher has difficulty regaining his form after injury. I see no reason to speculate that his problem is related to Price, who was the pitching coach when Cingrani was successful.

757690
06-14-2015, 03:46 AM
Cingrani is back to his 2012-13 velocity and K rate. He's healthy. That is not the problem. His control, both in and out of the strike zone is the problem. That's a mental issue. Even if Price has nothing to do with it, that is what needs to be addressed. Not his arm, but what's between his ears.

757690
06-14-2015, 05:24 AM
One more point about Cingrani and getting regular work.

I have been advocating Cingrani getting more work than usual for awhile now. It's the best way to get him out of his funk.

He needs to pitch in back-to-back days maybe 3 or 4 days in a row, and full innings or even multiple endings. Price needs to get him into games even with a big lead or when the behind. This is usually the first step a manager makes when trying to get a pitcher back on track. Pitching him just to a few batters here and there, every few days isn't going to do it.
