I was listening to the Red Sox radio feed of today's game --- one said the Tigers' bullpen was one as an opposing team you didn't mind getting into early in a game -- I expected someone to ask why would it ever be bad to get into a bullpen early in a game -- but nope -- -- as I chuckled to myself & I thought about the dumb things we hear from the Reds' announcers and I don't think I've heard that one from them.....

Jim Day mentioned on pre-game that there was a lot of speculation something was going to go down this afternoon with Walt in Bryan Price's office for an extended chat. Then Piecoro doing his best to hype up the drama with a couple references to "if" Cueto starts tonight and mentioning the just-before-opening-day Burba/Casey trade . . .

Only Walt could allow this circus, he has no idea how to execute a sale. Johnny Cueto surely deserves better than having to warm up with another starter out there. If a trade really is this imminent then you just scratch Cueto. Watch him go out there and flop like he did last start and lose value.

I think tonight really helped the rental trade value of Cueto.

Not sure he fully put to rest the concerns about his elbow, but as a rental he sure looks like he can pitch 11 more games at a high level. Plus this year's playoffs.

As a free agent, LTC, candidate? There may still be concerns with a LTC for him. But that will be determined by his remaining starts in 2015, which IMO will likely be for a club other than the Reds.

I'm guessing that the offer that Walt was mulling over before the game, just got a little better :)

Staying glued to the postgame to watch hard-hitting journalist Jim Day track down Walt and demand to know who Cueto was almost traded to before the game.

Ken Rosenthal has reported on Twitter a deal with the Royals was almost official, but fell through because one of the players coming to Cincy couldn't get cleared medically.

Sources indicate that the problem was that one of the players going from the #Royals to the #Reds for Cueto did not check out medically.
