Tonight is Fiesta Rojos at Great American Ball Park. Tonight we celebrate the local Hispanic community and the rich cultural history of the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds will wear their “Los Rojos” jerseys during tonight’s game to go along with numerous pregame ceremonies and activations throughout the ballpark. Tonight’s event also kicks off Tony Perez Weekend at the ballpark. Perez, Cesar Geronimo and David Concepcion will serve as tonight’s Honorary Captains. During pregame ceremonies Maria Lang will receive a Reds Community Advocate Award in recognition of her contributions as an educator and tutor at the Academy of Multilingual Immersion Studies (AMIS). Also during pregame ceremonies tonight seven current Reds players of Hispanic descent in will receive certificates of recognition from the Commission on Hispanic & Latino Affairs for the State of Ohio.

And they showed Ventura watching Cueto like a hawk. Everyone loves the guy there. Makes me wonder if they'll make a serious run at him after the season. My defense is based wholly in simple logic. He's 24, he's not perfect but he's overall played a very solid SS. Yes, he has made errors. No, he's not Zack Cozart, but that doesn't mean he's a horrible fielder. A certain Venezuelan shortstop made 22 errors for the Reds in 1970.

He hasn't played a "very solid SS" He's anything but solid at SS. That's not to say he can't or won't get better, but right now? He's not good. He's not solid. He's poor.

And Price makes plenty of mistakes. Just not nearly as many as the peanut gallery here claim.

Suarez is ranked 26th out of 30 MLB SS with at least 450 innings at SS this year. His UZR/150 is -8.5.

That's a good point.

My issue with Suarez isn't his errors. It's that he makes mental and fundamental mistakes on a regular basis, like the lazy way he played that ball tonight. He's not doing a lot of the little things that are necessary, if you are to be the captain of the infield. He's young, and hopefully he matures into a more complete defensive player, but right now, he's not MLB ready at SS, in my opinion.

LeCure with a 5.25 ERA at Louisville. Is Welsh defending him like crazy? Yes!

I mean, it's alright to call a spade a spade, Chris. Don't have to be all pollyanna. LeCure didn't make the team for a reason. Then he proved it by pitching awful for Louisville. But go ahead, make excuses for him.

Welsh is turning into George Grande Light.

Ryan LaMarre is on the roster and we have an all-rookie starting rotation. If the Reds are tanking, they're not doing a good job of hiding it.

PS: Chapman's "shoulder injury" = Rest for 2016, son. #DPE

And this one belongs to the Dbags!

The Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game is whoever the Reds draft within the first 3 picks in 2016!

We still stink!

Here's an idea. You take over choosing the star of the game from now on.

And while you're at it, try to be a little more abrasive, so that you can alienate more fans who actually want their favorite club to win.

I'll never feel good about a loss and never show glee in what is going to become a last-place finish in our division. I feel your pain.

I know people like him in real time. They like nothing more than to shout down anyone and everyone who has a viewpoint opposing theirs, and to take a colossal dump on anything that others might find appealing.

Most fans find it enjoyable when their team wins, and suffer a little (or at least are disappointed) when they lose. He comes in and gleefully celebrates, basically rubbing our collective noses in it. I would rather deal with trash-talking Cardinals, Cubs, or Pirates fans.

And then there's the matter of his "star of the game" tonight. Frankly, I'm pissed about it. I started that feature in the game threads because I sometimes wax nostalgic as I have gotten older, and like many other I miss the steadying influence of Joe Nuxhall. But he twisted it to fit into his perverse crusade to tank for draft picks (I am 100% certain that Nux would be utterly disgusted by the very notion), and now the whole thing is toxic as far as I'm concerned. I will no longer have anything to do with it.

It's OK to say: "You know, Sam LeCure used to be a good pitcher, but I'm not sure what happened to him. He's no longer good."

You need to look into Sam's game logs a bit more. He struggled early on (something wrong mechanically with his delivery that he needed time to work out from what they say), but got it together. His era was ballooned by a few 5-6 run outings. He'd pitch a month lights out and have one bad outing and made his stats look horrific.

He's a seasoned MLB veteran who put up a 5.25 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP at Triple-A this year. Spin it however you'd like. LeCure is bad. 60 IP at Louisville, only 44 Ks with 24 BBs. That would be atrocious for an MLB pitcher. But a guy who is supposed to be an MLB pitcher, but is playing in the minors? Yikes. I'm not buying that only a few bad outings ballooned his numbers. The Reds sent a player making over a million down to the minors this year ... knowing they had bullpen issues. Then that player stinks up the joint at Louisville.

I hope I'm wrong, but LeCure probably isn't long for professional baseball.

And just in case Big Klu doesn't check this thread, I sent him a personal message apologizing. Again, was just trying to have some good-natured fun. I took Marty's line ("This one belongs to...") and twisted it, then I took Klu's Joe Nuxhall Star of the Game and twisted that, and then I took a page out of Servo's book with the "We still stink."

So, you were in good company, Klu. Well, except for Servo. And Marty.

Uh, nevermind.

June 19th, 1 ip, 4 hits, 5 earned runs
July 20th, 0.2 ip, 4 hits, 3 walks, 6 earned runs

Outside of those 2 stinkers....

April 9.1 ip, 4.82 era, 6 bb, 7 k
May 11.2 ip, 6.94 era, 5 bb, 9 k
June 15.2 ip, 3.55 era, 10 bb, 9 k
July 11.2 ip, 2.41 era, 0 bb, 13 k
Aug 10.0 ip, 0.90 era, 0 bb, 6 k

IMO you can clearly see that Sam figured it our sometime in June. He's never going to be a high K pitcher, but he's still got the stuff to be effective IMO.

It wasn't about figuring anything out, his velocity stopped being in the low 80s.

Yes, it was. He had some mechanical issues with his delivery. That is what was causing the drop in velocity and his problem with control/location. When I said he figured it out, I was referring to his repeatable delivery.
