#Reds Bryan Price said he’s holding Devin Mesoraco, Zack Cozart out of the first few games. Probably won’t start until Monday-ish

Game starts at 3:05 Eastern
Tomlin starts for Cleveland

Weather in Goodyear is forecast to be sunny and 82F at game time on its way to a high of 89. (I am sure it will be similar to that here)

Preview article:

They will not include catcher Devin Mesoraco and shortstop Zack Cozart, who are coming off of surgeries last season. Mesoraco is trying bounce back from a left hip injury, while Cozart tore ligaments in his right knee.
Both players have had no setbacks in their rehabs or the early workouts, but they will be eased into games.
"I can't give you exact dates, but neither one of those guys will be in these early games against Cleveland, and maybe through the weekend," Price said. "That really isn't unexpected. It does give a kid like [catcher Ramon] Cabrera, who I like a lot, a chance to get front-and-center time. He's typically a guy that came in second last year. But he's a guy now that, until Devin comes back, will get a chance to start every other day."
Center fielder Billy Hamilton, who is coming back from arthroscopic right shoulder surgery performed in late September, will be out of the lineup as well.
"For no other reason than I want him to play in the second game," Price said. "We ask him to do a lot in the outfield, and he's still not to the point where he's like 100 percent, feels great every day. We've worked him hard. When he has a little bit of fatigue from throwing, maybe we'll give him a day off. [Tuesday] will be a good work day for him. We'll give him a day off from playing in the game and he will be ready to go on the second."

Left-handed candidate Brandon Finnegan also will see action for one inning.
http://m.reds.mlb.com/news/article/165680840/brandon-finnegan-seeks-reds-rotation-spot

Reds manager Bryan Price liked what he saw from Finnegan -- enough to give him a chance at the 2016 rotation.
"Had I not seen him pitch in September … he probably would be a tweener, a guy the scouts saw as a starter in college, but pro scouts saw as a reliever in pro ball," Price said. "We'd have to define his best role based on our own speculation. I think he answered the bell a little bit by having a strong September, showing that third pitch. The changeup, for me, was a difference-maker. Had he come in with a reliever mentality, fastball-slider, it would have been harder for me to envision him as a starting pitcher long term."

"Last year, I definitely had no clue, coming into Spring Training, what I was going to do," Finnegan said. "I only had five bullpens coming into spring with Kansas City. Then I tweaked my hamstring, so it set me back even more, so my arm was nowhere near in shape. This offseason, I hit it hard. I started throwing Dec. 1. By the time I got to Spring Training, I had nine or 10 bullpens. My arm is definitely ready to go and my body is in good shape.
"I know I can start. I think I proved that a little bit last year. I'm just going to go out and give it my all."

Re: Moscot
http://m.reds.mlb.com/news/article/165444394/jon-moscot-tries-to-rejoin-reds-rotation

This is a big camp for the 24-year-old Moscot, who is part of a wide-open competition for one of three spots in the rotation.
A throwing program for Moscot resumed in September, but he tried to keep his right-arm strength up as he rehabbed the left.
"Everything I did with my left arm, I tried to do with my right arm," Moscot said. "It was almost like I was rehabbing my right arm but I was completely healthy. I've come back in pretty solid shape. My right arm feels great. It's called 'prehab.' You're prehabbing your arm so you don't have any of those injuries down the road. Hopefully it stays that way. I feel strong on both sides right now."

LOL! It didn't take long for a guy to get thrown out by 20 feet at home. Mid-season form!

Good to see Suarez crush that ball into the opposite field gap. That kid has some natural pop.

Moscot pretty much has a rotation spot locked up if he stays healthy, IMO (especially with Lamb out for the start of the season and Iggy questionable).

Just the discussion between Thom and Chris is really good today (seriously). They are covering A LOT of ground. Front office stuff with Walt/Dick, the trades since after the 2014 season (including Suarez and Disco of course), the Chapman stuff, Homer Bailey chatting with them for a full inning in the booth and more. I hope others are able to see this and enjoy it. A lot of good info from both Thom and Chris. They're about to dig even deeper in Chapman discussion.

For any out-of-towners: MLB.tv has this game listed on their spring training schedule, but trying to watch it through my Xbox app isn't getting me anywhere. Is the game being streamed/archived or not? Was really looking forward to having this on this afternoon...

Early spring training games are excellent. So glad these first two are on. Guys who made a positive impression on me today were Schebler -- looks like very good bat speed to me, and man does he take a rip -- O'Grady, Winker, Daal (give him time), Finnegan, Hayes and even AJ Morris a little (nice slider). And Moscot looked solid. But there's a million miles to go. Really looking forward to seeing Reed/Stephenson tomorrow.

Good start to spring training. If and its a big if, the Reds can be a really good hitting team they may avoid 100 losses. But I wouldn't get all that excited over someone who hits or plays well in these early spring training games. Miles and miles to go before that bell rings on opening day.

1 game, it's ST, etc...but you have to be excited to see Suarez carrying last year's success into the early spring.
