I asked Riggleman. He basically said Dixon was sharper because he more recently has had regular ABs at Louisville than Herrera. But said he could have easily gone other way too.

Interesting comments from C Trent on 2nd inning visit to the booth re: Peraza and work ethic. Said Cozart told him after signing with Angels that the kid wants to be so good that they almost have to stop him from working constantly on his game. Thinks he’s just going to keep getting better.

The curse of Homer is real. It is amazing what the Reds record is when he is on the roster versus on the DL. The season completely turned around when he went on the DL and as soon as they announce his return the dark clouds return. Of course Schebler being out meaning Duvall plays every day is not helping. It is hard to believe how badly Duvall has regressed this year.

Either way nice job by Hernandez and a good outing for Castillo.

Tom, that pitch was not down the can, low, outside corner on the first pitch, don't want to swing at that!

Herrera—doing post-game presser in a blue “Dilly Dilly” shirt—talked about getting his first big league walk-off hit. But he seemed most excited about doing the interview in English. When he was done he raised his arms in the air, cracked a smile & said “no more translator!”

Thanks guys. Since Wednesday, I've been laid up with bruised kidney and scrambled insides and on meds, so this is the first game I've really seen and only the ninth inning tonight. I've been back home since Sunday, but slept though Saturday's game and most of Sunday's. And that's a good thing. I'm sure nobody misses me and that's okay. I just appreciate that I followed the game on At Bat and figured that it was a goner, but turned the TV on and saw two outs. The smash by Votto that somehow was caught. The HR by Suarez tied it and then the hits by Winker and Tucker and the amazing hit by Dilson put the icing on the cake. These last four days, when I've been out of it (some with morphine) would have drifted into the opioid fog, came to life. Mikes me realize
how important these game threads are for those of us who are kind of disabled. Great win for sure and again thank you.

Good break for Reds, but I still don't like how that's called these days with replay.

Completely agree with you. The runner beat the ball to the base. The naked eye couldn't tell that he momentarily came off the bag while the tag was being applied. The fact that slowed-down technology can tell us something different shouldn't play into it.

Still, that bottom of 9th was awesome. I was personally in Cleveland at the game for the 7 run 9th. I'm used to being the do-ee on these kinds of games, not the do-er.

The Reds found their Fountain of Youth in the 9th with an exciting come back from the dead win. You really just can't beat wins like this for excitement. The only thing that could put cold water on this is for Homer Bailey to pitch tonight.....uh...well there goes that. :help:

Here's a nice bit of writing from the St. Louis paper

Cincinnati pinch-hitter Dilson Herrera tagged a bases-loaded, two-out single off closer Bud Norris to flip the fairy tale [Poncedeleon's no-hitter bid] into a 2-1 loss at Great American Ball Park and leave the Cardinals with just another faulty fable in the late innings.

some of us really old timers remember the Pony Express

I know you're using hyperbole, but at 63 years old, I can say that I did meet a priest when I was a kid who met Buffalo Bill when he, the priest, was a boy. That blew my mind and made me realize some of the Wild West figures lived into the 20th century. (Cody died in 1917, prominent Native Americans such as Geronimo, Chief Joseph and Red Cloud lived into the first decade of the century. Black Elk, who fought in both the Little Big Horn and Wounded Knee lived until 1950).
