Alec Mills is making his first start of the season for the Cubs tonight in replacement for the injured Cole Hamels. So this will either be an easy touch for the Reds or he will totally shut them down. Which will it be?

I like that Farmer is getting some reps behind the plate. His swing looks solid, and I enjoy that quick bat.

I don't like that Casali was hit last night, had to come out of the game, and now Farmer is catching.

Oh, I think Casali's been solid and would be fine as a platoon mate. He's a near league-average bat who holds his own defensively (3.6 FRAA this season).

Farmer will hopefully improve on his numbers with more regular playing time.

He certainly couldn't be much worse than what Barnhart's given the Reds so far this season. (Or last.)

Sounds like another Barnhart hater.
I agree with everything in the post except the last two words. "(or last)".
Barnhart's 2018 wasn't that bad. .248 AVG .699 OPS While I agree that Barnhart has been awful this year, the question is: Why? He was one of the top catchers in MLB in 2017 and very solid in 15 and 16. Now some people on this board want to throw him in the trash. Injury? Maybe.. Slump? Maybe.. But a guy usually doesn't just fall off of the cliff that this in the prime age years. I would hate to see the Reds give up on him. Many guys go through a few months of poor production and then come back to to be productive.
See Votto, See Puig.

I timed his 2 triples vs Rockies. He was home to 3rd in 11.21 and 11.18

I timed him just now from contact of bat (on 1st but leading off and assumed secondary lead)...so about 15 less feet of running with secondary momentum instead of standstill and I had him at 10.46

The Cubs indeed played it very well but I’m 100% skeptical he didn’t either hesitate or not bust it from contact.

When Senzel came into the picture half way to 2B, the ball was 4/13 of the way to hitting the wall. CF fielded it off the wall with all his momentum going toward the infield and a great relay put the ball right on the money to tag him as he reached for the plate on a good head first slide to the outside of the plate. Great play all around by the defense.

Of course, it was also another example of the "pitcher batting 8th" coming back to bite them in the butt. If Kyle Farmer had been on deck instead of Anthony DeSclafani, then J.R. House may have held Senzel at 3rd.

270' x 10.46/11.195 = 252'
So that figures him just 18' off of first at contact. How far do you think you should be off 1B when the ball comes across the plate with your momentum going towards 2nd so you do not get picked off if the catcher gets it?

I’ve been a critic of Peraza but in his defense he’s still a young player and could get better. He has shown signs of being really good at the plate. The downside is he’s in his 5th MLB season.

As a life long Redlegs Fanatic, I have tried so hard to like David Bell. To get him on my good side and give him the benefit of the doubt. But he just continues to make wrong move after wrong move. His "player ego first" style of managing is not my cup of tea. I would have absolutely 100% no questions asked bunted Peraza in the 6th and pinch hit for Disco. Yes he pitched ok and his pitch count as around 80. But the bottom of the 6th was the start of the 3rd time thru the order. That possible run or 2 in the 6th will prolly decide this game. If this game were at home, then yes leave Disco in for the 6th. But not at Wrigley, not with only a 1 run lead and the top due up for the 3rd time. This team would be leading the Central if you switched managers in the dugouts tonight. Just my opinion.
