It's 70 degrees today.

Itching to go home, dust off the bike and do a little riding tonight.

Too wet to ride here, i'm jealous, I did 20 minutes high impact earlier... my left hammy is twinging, little knot climbing up.... it wants to pop.

I'm going have to head south to the bay area to get any riding in on good trails sometime this winter.

I've heard nightmare stories about folks at my work who get transfered to SLO, and it's not even in the range of what San Fran is, so I can believe that.

Is it much like the Northwest, minus a lot of the wet? I personally thought that the Eugene to Bellingham coridor was one of the most gorgeous places that I have ever set foot in. Wonderfully lush and picturesque

I was just thinking about the Beatles, and John Lennon. Hard to believe that it's almost been 24 years since John Lennon was shot and killed. Dec. 10, 1980. I was only 8, but I remember it quite vividly.
I remember Howard Cosell announcing it during a Monday Night Football game. I think it was Miami against Philly.

Kinda, much dryer... very arid in the valley, towards the coast a varied allotment of micro weather systems, rainforests, beach, rolling hills of sage.

Gets cold at night though, even in the summer. That's a pain.

I wish my IT group at work still let us listen to that.

they put the kibosh on that, I liked their setup, for the same reasons as you.

So I took the plunge and bought an Ipod to keep myself sane here in cube world.

Borrowed every CD from friends, familiy and coworkers I could find.

Now I get some of the same, I'll hear a song I bought the CD for years ago but haven't played since and just smile.

We're not allowed to bring radios, mp3 or anything to work. Now, they've been testing out elevator music for the office.

Yeah, too many other options. She listens to her CDs (she has a bunch), reads a lot, and practices guitar. And just does the "kid in her room" thing. It's always interesting to go in her room and see what pictures she hangs up. It changes almost daily.

The weather certainly sucked today. I drove up to West Chester, and I can't believe I wasn't in an accident. People were all over the roads. I kept wondering why people insisted on speeding when it was so rainy and hazy and you couldn't see 100 feet in front of you.

But I had a good time hanging out with my family. I also stopped and bought some new CDs on my way home. (I tried so hard to not buy any ... I lasted for almost a week.) Got Jimmy Eat World's new one, finally, and Norah Jones' newer CD, finally. Also picked up Jem's "Finally Woken" CD, a choice inspired by seeing her in concert Monday. And by the fact the CD was only $9!!

Am listening to Jimmy Eat World now. Love them.

Well, I'm relieved. I got an eviction notice tucked inside my door last night for non-payment of rent. What happened was that I sent the rent check through work but the postage meter didn't put any postage on it so I got it back on Friday. Saturday I went to the post office and mailed it with a stamp and everything. So I called the landlord this morning and she said she hadn't received the check yet. So she knows that I did send it out and she will just wait for it. I used to wait table too. At the Spinning Fork restaurant. One of the best serving jobs ever, IMO. The menu was about 12 pasta dishes; everything came with salad and bread. Very simple, made good money, had a blast working there.

I think I've worked in every facet of the restaurant business besides being a "chef." Have worked as a prep person in kitchens, on the grill, server, hostess, crew chief, etc.

Working in a restaurant is one of the things I point to when people ask me why I started smoking.

I think the best tradition I have for Thanksgiving is playing football the day after.. theres about 14 of us close friends, and we all first meet at taco bell at 12, eat some lunch, then go to our high school football stadium and play, usually the teams are the same every year, east auglaize vs west auglaize (depending on what side of the railroad tracks you lived on in Wapakoneta.) We play for about 3 hours or so, then go home and take naps, then usually all meet up later that night and have a few brews somewhere. Good times.

That sounds like fun

My newest song obsession (that doesn't have anything to do with Wicked the Musical :MandJ: )-

"True" by Ryan Cabrera

Yes, it's weenie. It's very weenie. Yet it's so sweet that it's causing me to be all mushy... Gross!! :p:

"I'm weak, it's true
Cause I'm afraid to know the answer
Do you want me too?
Cause my heart keeps falling faster

I've waited all my life to cross this line
To the only thing that's true
So I will not hide
It's time to try anything to be with you
All my life I've waited
This is true"

It's 6:45, and I'm in the middle of getting ready for work. Taking my post-shower break. 57 degrees out. I think I'll wear one of my fall shirts. Even though the high may reach 70. It's cold enough in my building anyway.

I think Rosie reminded me of what I wanted to respond to: the holidays.

I pretty much HATE the holidays now. My family all gathers at someone's house ... for a week. That's what I hate. I actually enjoy having everyone together for a while, but a week is too long. I never take time off because I need my work time to get away.

Now, this year is different. For Thanksgiving, my sister is coming in the Sat before with the twins. (13 months old). And she and her husband are flying to Cancun for a few days, and leaving the boys behind. So, I get to play pseudo-mom for a few days. That'll be fun. She'll be back by TG day, and stay through the weekend.

For Chistmas, I'm driving to Houston, and staying with my sister. Sleeping on the floor in the nursery. Then I come home and have the week with the rest of the family. It really gets insane. We'll have something like 15 people staying at one house, and I'm the only one that has to go to work during that time. So, all night dominos and monopoly are the rule.

I'm usually just glad when the holidays are over.

Just a period of time when I have to wait for a reaction to do it's own thing.

(Sort of like the 10 minutes you have waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven. You don't really need to be there staring at the oven.)

I simply have to wait 30 minutes for a test tube to come out of an incubator or a centrifuge or whatever.

Sandy, sounds like an interesting crowd for Thanksgiving. Board games are de rigueur around here.

Pretty chilly out here. Just walked my daughter to the bus stop and is 36 degrees and a stiff breeze brewing out of the north.

The night that John Lennon died, I was out watching Monday Night Football at a sports bar. Cosell came on with the news. First time I'd heard that place go so quiet for a football game. I was 28.

I despise the holidays; no longer talk to my family... I've already been through the whole tale ~12,000 posts earlier on this thread, so no need to reprise... Thanksgiving for me will prolly consist of some cranberry sauce for my baby girl and a pizza for myself. :D

I was, like, four years old when Lennon died. I have no idea what I was doing. Didn't even know it was happening, since my father figured if I listened to anything but classical music I'd metamorph into a drug-smoking hippie degenerate. :D

Last night I had my first beer since last Sunday. Man, it tasted goooood. Love ya, Warsteiner.

Had an Interesting day/night yesterday.. The singer of my band is doing an internship with a music lawyer here in Columbus, The lawyer brought this guy named Moses Avalon in to columbus to hold a seminar. I guess this Avalon fellow is a producer for Sony that has worked with the likes of Britney Spears, Madonna, Nickleback, and Courtney Love to name a few, he has also written many books about the music business, focusing basically on the scams involved and how to avoid them. Anyhow, Kate (our singer) has been kinda hanging out with this guy the past couple of days through the internship, he did the seminar, and he also did an interview on NPR, and spoke at a couple other conventions here in town this week. Well apparently, yesterday, he asked if he could come see our band play... So rather than tell this guy to come see us practice in the basement that we normally practice in (terrible acoustics) Kate calls up Ruby Tuesday's, a bar that we play at often, and works out an hour long set before the 2 bands allready scheduled. So at 6PM, I am working late and I get a call, "hey do you know we have a show tonight?" So, I had to bust a** out of work and get my drums torn down and loaded up, to be ready to play by 9:30, the record guy shows up, seems like your typical LA douchy music biz type, but claims to like what he heard. Doubt anything will come of it, but I guess it was significant...

Pretty cool Cbus, let us know how it turns out.

We still have the kid-proof electrical outlets in our house. If my kids still need them now, they probably ought to be electrocuted. I probably ought to take them down.

Did the maintenance thing this AM. Went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned (no cavities yay), got my hair cut, and got my oil changed.

Nothing like hanging around some guy places and talk about guy stuff (my dentist Matt has a son in the Marines, my barber Amburgy has a '98 Buick Regal with 220K miles, and I got a lesson in oil filter technology from the oil change guy Mel).

Every formula starts with an "equals sign." Try putting "=1+1" (minus the quotes) in a cell and see what you get. Then go back and delete one of the ones, park your cursor in its place and go click on a second cell. Then try putting numbers into that second cell and see what happens in the first cell. You'll get the idea.

My other beginner Excel tip would be: Time in the "Format Cells" area is time well-spent.

Today's Fun Fact: Eugenics in America!

Nowhere were the principles of eugenics more accepted than America. Eugenics was adopted by the Oneida Community in the mid-19th century. The first American eugenics law was passed in Indiana in 1907 and by 1936 there were 35 states that had such laws.

The principle was that sterilizing large numbers of "defective" people could prevent the perpetuation of targeted defects and genetic diseases. The state eugenics laws were tested in the courts. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the eugenicists in Buck vs. Bell (1927). Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes speaking for the Court, wrote, "three generations of imbeciles are enough".

State governments under the authority of these laws forcibly sterilized thousands of Americans. The mentally ill and retarded were the most frequent victims of this program. There were also, however, children and youths sterilized. These included unwed mothers and boys in reformatories and orphanages, especially if they were judged to be retarded. The extent of the sterilizations varied widely from state to state, but was most pronounced in states that were largely Protestant because of the opposition of the Catholic Church.

There were also large numbers of sterilizations conducted on blacks in the South by the largely white medical establishment. These were known as Mississippi appendectomies. An outgrowth of the eugenics movement was the popularity of beautiful baby competitions in the early 20th century.

An ABC investigative report looked into the case of one Michigan boy. "One man who has carried this dark secret with him was Fred Aslin. When Aslin was a boy in 1936, his father died, leaving his mother to bring up nine children. For unknown reasons, Michigan state representatives deemed her unable to care for her children, and they were taken to a state mental institution and left there. When Aslin was first admitted, doctors’ reports labeled him 'a feebleminded moron', but during his years at the institution, he received glowing reports from his teachers. Nevertheless, the "feebleminded" label stuck, and when Aslin turned 18 he was told that he would be sterilized. "I [didn’t] want anybody cutting on me and they knew I wasn’t crazy; they knew I wasn’t retarded," says Aslin. Although he protested, a court order supported the surgery, and he was sterilized." I couldn't believe she said it. I root for her a bit as an underdog ..... both her and scout ..... and the guys actually. I can't stand the younger girls. That Amy is a witch and a half.

So, what's up with the voting last night? Looks like one of the guys formed an alliance with the older women. That's what I'm thinking.Chris seems to be playing his own game now. He needed to do something, since the numbers aren't in his favor. He's probably too outspoken to fit in with the women, though, and I'm puzzled why he didn't bond more with Twyla, since they work in the same profession. I recorded the Early Show this morning and need to check it out to see if Sarge explains Chris's vote.

That Eliza needs to be sent away to some other part of Vanuatu on a 1-way raft excursion. She's seems to possess the golden Survivor combination of being overly chatty and useless in camp. The camera crew can always count on her for wide-eyed expressions of shock at the most mundane surprises.

Scout seems too naive and non-strategic to go much farther, but she does have Eliza's flaws pegged.

Once Twila and Chris go, and I don't think they'll last long, I don't think I'll be excited to see any of the remaining people win the million.

Yeah, it's a Chipotle clone. The only real difference I can see between the two is that Qdoba has ground beef items.

Chipotle's a bit more expensive, but tastes better. Qdoba's 'hot' only rates as a 'medium.'

Nationwide didn't ask this, but Geico did: "In the past 5 years, have you had a suspension on your license or had it revoked?" Umm, yeah, see, New York state sucks ... :MandJ:

I'm sure you were all wondering where I was this afternoon. After I got done with my PT this morning I came back home and made me some scrambled eggs with ham. Mmmmmmmmm, ham. Then I got online and read the Post, Enquirer and the board. Then I took the bus downtown and went to the Ohio Book Store. For those of you who are unaware of this place it has 4 and a half floors full of books. They are mostly used books you can get for a decent price. I picked up "Wired The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi" by Bob Woodward, "The People's Choice" by Jeff Greenfield that is a P-word novel and "Wild, High and Tight The Life and Death of Billy Martin". I about bought "Band of Brothers" for my oldest nephew's birthday next month but I thought I should ask my mom first and see if she thinks that would be a good gift. He likes to read and he's into Band of Brothers but it may be too adult for him. I was going to choose between the Ty Cobb biography by OU's own Charles Alexander but the Billy Martin book was bigger.

Then I went to the library and did a little research for WOY and on my own little project I'm working on which seems to be at a standstill. I also checked out a couple of movies. "Swingers" and "The Man Who Knew Too Much". I recorded the latter off AMC a few years ago when they were doing a Hitchcock fest. This was before they started editing the movies and running commercials in them. On this one tape I had "Shadow of a Doubt", "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and "Saboteur". It's an 8 hour tape so I had room enough between the first two to tape "Notorious" I taped that a few weeks ago and watched "Shadow of a Doubt" and "Notorious" a couple of weeks ago. The last minute or so was cut off of "Notorious" Then the beginning and the end of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" was cut off. So I thought I'd try to copy "The Man Who Knew Too Much". I've never seen "Swingers" yet so I thought I'd watch that as well.

Z, your daughter is adorable! She's got more hair than you have.

Pretty cool, Cbus. You never know what might happen. Keep us posted.

Dan Rajkowski, gm of the Zephyrs was arrested this weekend for DUI and spousal abuse. I've never liked him, but sort of felt sorry for him when the season ended this year. Not anymore.

He can't come within a certain distance of his wife, home, or alcohol. Has to enroll in a alcohol abuse program, and he has to wear an electronic ankle bracelet. Not sure how long this is going to go on, but he's "temporarily" relieved of his duties with the Zs. Mike Schline is in charge now. I do line him. He's definitely more fan-friendly. (He actually recognized it was a problem to have the wrong visiting team on the scoreboard one time. I told him ... scoreboard says portland. He said "yeah?" I actually spoke up to two people today about how I hate my job. One, a co-worker from another department, said she didn't like doing what she was doing. I said I'd LOVE to move to her dept. She said I knew more than she did anyway. But from some of the things she said, I think there's another person they might be moving over there. Frustrating, but she has seniority (with the company). This company doesn't really know how to do things. They've got all kinds of people in the wrong position, or just not properly trained, and they don't seem to care.

I ran into a departmental manager of a department that gets backlogged, and I told him ... if he ever gets backlogged, to ask my manager. That I usually have time I can fit something in. Hopefully, if I stay with this company, it'll lead to some cross-training.

Bring my real interview clothes to the dry cleaners. (I need to find a place closer by.)

And Krono, job interviews are really fun and interesting. A good job interview gives you an opportunity to learn about the company while you are showing what you know. AND you might even learn a little bit about yourself in the process.

I always dread job interviews, BUT, they're never as bad as I fear.

Have a good night everyone!

I've heard of Zapp's chips! Emeril always has them on. The girls here are plain chip connoiseurs. I go for the spicy stuff. I should send you some $$$ for some. We can crunch over the holidays!

One day you'll wish that you had gone to the doctor... ;)

Yes, but I would have had a hell of a good time up until that point. :D

Sandy, best of luck tomorrow.

Oh, I'll do fine tomorrow. It's my appt for the results I'm worried about. I'm afraid I'm going to end up with a pill box set like my mom's, and I NEVER take meds. Occasional allegy pill or something. OTC stuff mostly, and not much. But, all the women in my family seem to have PCOS, and I probably do to. Both my mom and my younger sister are taking glucaphage, along with a host of other hormone regulating meds.

It's best to think positive. That shouldn't be too hard for a positive person like yourself. :) But... If it does end up that you need a med or two to regulate your blood sugar, don't look at it negatively, because it's something that WILL help. And that's how you have to look at. I was once like you and hardly took any medication, but now, after my battle with Lyme disease, I'm left with a whole host of pills daily (about 12 different ones). But they keep me healthy and that's all that counts. That's how you have to look at it. Any other way will make you drive yourself crazy!

Hey SB, how's your stepdad?

Oh, he's doing so much better! Thank you for asking!! He's back at work, even back to taking patients again!! (But then, even when he was at home he was reading EEGs and doing work- silly, silly man!)

I think they've decided it was a pancreatic flare up of some sort... I'm still fuzzy on the details, but as long as he's feeling better and my mom's not freaking out, then I'm happy!! :)

Sandy, way to go and good luck.

To the rest of you who avoid docs, I'll try to put this as gently as I can....

You blithering idiots, don't avoid going to the doctor. If you've got something wrong, get it fixed. A few minutes of a little discomfort is worth it.

And this is coming from a guy who hates to go to the doctor but also wants to be around for a long time so he goes every 6 months.

Don't make me pull this car over.

SB, so what have you decided?

Drumroll, please... :MandJ: Actually, I was thinking that we could go to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!). Then, if he wanted to see a movie, we could. If not, some of my friends from Case (including the one he went to HS with- Tera) are going to Mi Pueblo and having some margaritas and such. Tera wants to see him, so I figured we could stop by there and hang out for a while. Tera was really upset, cause she's been trying to get him to come up and visit Case since our freshman year, and he never did until he met me. Then he came up the next week!! :p: ;)

:biglaugh: Thanks!! I'm so excited!!! I've never been so excited for a date... Last night, I had a freak out period in which I text messaged him when he was out with his brother asking if he still wanted to go out this weekend (me and my moments of self-doubt!). The response he texted back was: OF COURSE. :D I'm so dorky!! :p:

Good Lord... it's midnight, all the lights are off in my apartment and I can't turn them on for fear of waking people up, and that creepy bird-doll thing from Saw is lurking in my closet, or behind the shower curtain, I'm certain of it.... *shiver*

I can't remember being all shivery after a horror flick like I've been after seeing that one in a long, long time.

KR, Unassisted, I think, mentioned a few pages back about the wisdom of the temp agency, and I didn't chime in with a big thumbs up, but I should have.

That's how I got my current job.

In fact, my company hires about half of it's employees for "Full time" jobs from the ranks of it's contractors.

I'm sure we're not the only ones. And I saw that you said they were rude. Honestly, other than picking up my paycheck at the Temp house, I never dealt with them, ever.

I would go do it, pronto.

Word

Temp agency..monday..that's the plan.

I could teach you everything you need to know about Excel in half an hour.

:RedinDC:

It did this baffling thing that just made me angry

For practice I entered the RR award into it..Date-Winner-Number Of Wins
And I got this...
Why did 1 equal a date in one spot, end up in the middle on another and end up on the edge in the 3rd?

I did nothing different :help:

I know I'm using it for something other then what it's made for..but that 1 being different stuff :dflynn:

Krono, Krono, Krono....

We need to get you out more son. You're going to have moss growing on you soon.

There is a big world out there waiting for you. Some places have running water. Others have this thing you talk into and people miles away can hear you and talk back. I've also heard about moving pictures they send out through the air and then other can see them. Then there is this internet thing. Talking movies too.

One step at a time Krono, one step at a time. Make a goal to go one place and fill out a job application. And do that today. People won't bite. Some are actually nice.

Met a nice guy while buying the coffee machine, he recommended one that was 90 bucks, said where he worked the thing had been running for 4 years

Friendly chap :)
