I had the Jesus meeting with the wife last night. Went well. I basically told her that I was just as tired and worn out as she was each day, but the difference is that I suck it up and get done what needs to be done each night before going to bed rather than putting it off continuously and never getting anything done. Told her that if we work together we'll have less to get done each night, therefore we can both go to bed earlier....and happier. She was receptive to this plan...thank God.

Locally there was a little girl who was killed by her horse a couple days ago. Got to work this am and discovered it was the daughter of an employee in my building. There are something like 3000 people in the building, so I don't know her personally, but it still made the death a little more real. :(

ua, you ought to look into MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator).

Basically, its shareware software that allows you to play the old arcade games on a PC (or other platforms) *exactly* how they were on the old arcade machines.

They've read the contents of the old game ROMs and MAME uses these and runs the games exactly how they used to be. Same boot up sequence, same screens, and everything. It's a lot of fun and brings back a lot of memories. You just need to hook a joystick up to your PC.

Back in the day, I met a bunch of guys at the same bar every Friday night and played Pole Position, Galaga, Pac Man, Defender, etc. It was interesting to see how at the start of the evening, I could drive Pole Position like an F1 driver. I was *good*. However, as the evening went on and multiple beers were quaffed, my accuracy went down (and down and down) and lots of flaming wrecks ensued.

Well my father was a gambler down in georgia,
He wound up on the wrong end of a gun.
And I was born in the back seat of a greyhound bus
Rollin’ down highway 41.

Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man,
Tryin’ to make a livin’ and doin’ the best I can.
And when it’s time for leavin’,
I hope you’ll understand,
That I was born a ramblin’ man.

I’m on my way to new orleans this mornin’,

They’re always having a good time down on the bayou,

I know how to get to the advanced internet settings. Not sure which setting to enable. My Pogo game doesn't load completely anymore. I'm thinking a java switch changed somehow with either the new ISP or something.

ua, you ought to look into MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator).

<snip>

Back in the day, I met a bunch of guys at the same bar every Friday night and played Pole Position, Galaga, Pac Man, Defender, etc. It was interesting to see how at the start of the evening, I could drive Pole Position like an F1 driver. I was *good*. However, as the evening went on and multiple beers were quaffed, my accuracy went down (and down and down) and lots of flaming wrecks ensued.Yep, I have MAME around here somewhere. The increasing difficulty with getting updated ROMs makes MAME an exercise in frustration. (I don't do any P2P file-sharing.) I used to get my ROMS from the mame.dk site before the international copyright police made their way to Denmark and shut that supply line down.

My all-time favorite MAME game was Diamond Run, which I don't think I ever saw in an arcade.

I don't have a joystick on my computer, and I could never get the Pole Position ROM to work with MAME and the keyboard, so this free-standing version is a real treat. It and the other Namco system are the only video games we have at our house, but this new one is the best $15 I ever spent! It's a real ego boost to show my kids my Pole Position prowess. ;) This system also has Galaga, so maybe you should consider it.

It's not so tough getting used to these controls either. I am able to play this version all the way through to the end. Something I could never do in the arcade.

Now here's a little story I gots to tell,
about three bad brothers you know so well.
It started way back in history with Adrock, MCA and me, Mike D.

I had a little horsey named Paul Revere.
Just me and my horsey and a quart of beer.
Ridin' cross the land, kickin' up sand.
Sheriff's posses on my tail cuz I'm in demand.
One lonely Beastie I be,
all by myself without nobody.
The sun is beatin' down on my baseball hat.
The air is gettin' hot, the beer is gettin' flat.
Lookin' for a girl, I ran into a guy.
His name is MCA, I said "howdy", he said "hi."

He told a little story that sounded well rehearsed.
Four days on the run and now he's dying of thirst.
The brew was in my hand, and he was on my tip.
His voice was hoarse, his throat was dry, he asked me for a sip.
He said "Can I get some?"
I said "You can't get none."
I had a chance to run,
but he pulled out his shotgun.
Quick on the draw, I thought I'd be dead.
He put the gun to my head and this is what he said:

"My name is MCA, I got a license to kill.
I think you know what time it is, it's time to get ill.
So what do we have here?
An outlaw and his beer.
I run this land, you understand, I've made myself clear."
We stepped into the wind, he had a gun, I had a grin.
You think this story's over, but it's ready to begin.

"I've got the gun, you've got the brew.
You've got two choices of what you can do.
It's not a tough decision as you can see.
I can blow you away or you can ride with me."

I said, "I'll ride with you if you can get me to the border.
The Sheriff is after me for what I did to his daughter.
I did it like this, I did it like that.
I did it with the whiffle ball bat.
So I'm on the run, the cop's got my gun.
Right about now it's time to have some fun.
The King Adrock, that is my name,
and I know the fly spot where they got the champagne."

We rode for six hours then we hit the spot.
The beat was-a-bumpin' and the girlies was hot.
This dude was starin' like he knows who we are,
so we took the empty spot next to him at the bar.
MCA said "Yo, you know this kid?"
I said I didn't but I knew he did.
The kid said, "Get ready, cuz this ain't funny.
My name is Mike D and I'm bout to get money."
He pulled out the jammey, aimed it at the sky.
He yelled, "Stick 'em up!" And let two fly.
Hands went up and people hit the floor.
He wasted two kids that ran for the door.
"I'm Mike D and I get respect.
Your cash and your jewelery is what I expect."

MCA was with it, and he's my ace,
so I grabbed the piano player and punched him in the face.
The piano player's out, the music stopped.
This boy had beef, and he got dropped.
Mike D grabbed the money, MCA snatched the gold.
I grabbed two girlies and a beer that's cold.

I have 67 hours of vacation time left for the year. I can carry over two days, or 17 hours. That means I have 50 hours to take by January 31 or I lose it - gone, poof, out of there.

My big boss is out the whole month for personal reasons. The other attorney scheduled a trip to Puerto Rico for two and a half weeks, from just before Christmas to after the new year.

What does all that mean - it means Puffy can't take any time off and just loses the vacation. Yup, just another instance of the "man" keeping me down!

Locally there was a little girl who was killed by her horse a couple days ago. Got to work this am and discovered it was the daughter of an employee in my building. There are something like 3000 people in the building, so I don't know her personally, but it still made the death a little more real. :(

I read that on the Dayton Daily online a couple days ago... Even though I don't know the family, I cried anyway. All my friends were concerned of course, asking me why I was crying, and I think they thought I was nuts when I explained why. It's just so sad, so tragic. Right before Christmas too. :(

I've been praying for Samantha, her family, and friends.

Someday I'll work from home. One day, when my writing career has skyrocketed and I am poised to take over the world!

Until then... the office.

And as far as having those vacation days, it sucks because all the good days ar taken - though I work alone, the home office still schedules me based on who has vacation scheduled in their office (it's in Louisville, and I'm in Cinci, but maybe I'll have to come in to cover for someone - on the Greyhound), so the days I have to choose from suck.

The jaw is a mite sore but not as bad as it was the other days this week. I have been able to talk normal since Tuesday. I still have a bit of a cough but not too much. I still feel a bit of irritation in my throat but otherwise I'm good. As for the ankle, I ditched the air cast yesterday and the doc said I'm about 80-90% healed. Now I can wear regular shoes again! I have 3 more PT appointments and they say I should be OK to start playing again in April! hint, hint, good comeback story for the Enquirer ;) I still need to get fitted for some kind of orthotic stocking for my swelling this week at this place in Kenwood. I guess Tuesday morning is going to have to do cause Monday I have PT and he wants me to get fitted for it in the morning before it swells up more. I temporarily ditched that thing I bought at Wallgreens cause the top if it was actually cutting into my leg and my foot really swelled up where that thing wasn't at.

Jim and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital.

One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there. Edna promptly jumped in to save him.

She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out.

When the Director of Nursing became aware of Edna's heroic act,she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital,as she now considered her to be mentally stable.

When she went to tell Edna the news she said, "Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged; since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of another patient, I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness.

The bad news is that Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself in his bathroom with the belt of his robe right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead."

Edna replied "He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry.

How soon can I go home?"

That’s a pretty good chunk of leave for only working for this company for 18 months, but since they couldn’t pay me what I was asking, I negotiated more leave and to be fully vested in my 401k from day one. And now they are paying me what I originally asked for, so I am pretty darn happy.

Post them when you get a chance. I'm not shopping until next week. I just want some new ideas. I've been making the same old crab dip and whatnot for years. Everyone requests it, but I want to add some things.

I made crab stuffed mushrooms that went over real well last year. Bad part is that I rarely go by a recipe when I'm in the mode. I just start creating. When somethings a hit, I never remember how the hell I did it.

I really want to make some sort of spinach dip wrapped in pastry. Something I can slice into rounds that's easy for people to munch on. Just never tried it.

I know my luck wouldn't last long. I woke up today with a sore throat and it's starting to get worse. There's no fighting it. Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, I get strep throat. It's like clock work. Problem is, I'm too stubborn to go see my doctor. This last spring, I finally went and saw my doctor as it was a worse than usual case of it. She said if they have documented cases of me regularly getting strep, they would take my toncils out.

Has anyone else had tonclis out as an adult? And does it make throat colds go away? It's the only sickness I ever get and it ain't fun.

I got my Dad a VCR.

He's losing his eyesight fairly rapidly. I was getting him large print books. Now, I get him books on tape.

The VCR sounds weird after typing that. He requested it though. Some how he can still watch TV peripherally. (macular degeneration.)

(My mom thinks only freaks are online. She says, "You watch out for those people. They just want porn and stuff.") It's so cute. I keep telling her that I can talk to all the relatives all over the country and check out sites from around the world. She wants nothing to do with it. It's a shame because she's been all over the world and is really into PBS and National Geographic, etc.

My parent holiday dilemma:

My mom has begged me not to buy her presents for Christmas this year on 3 separate occasions. She's house-bound and can't shop. She doesn't drive anymore except for an occasional Dr. appointment ..... which I'm praying that she keeps up with. (Stubborn like her daughter.) She feels bad that she can't reciprocate. I don't expect her to.

She does spend Christmas at my brothers and has a nice day. I haven't bought her gifts this year, per her request. It's making me crazy. I send her things throughout the year that my brother can't buy (clothes, bras, etc.)

Do I respect her wishes and do nothing? Do I send her something simple? Do I wait and send her things after the holidays disassociating it from Christmas?

For me the key is getting it out of my chest and into my head, where I can control it with Afrin or something. I drink a capful of Nyquel and sleep hard, maybe even do 1/3rd more at 4 am.

Always ends up in my head and then I feel better.

Bed Bath and Beyond makes me laugh.
I used to, like most guys, poke fun at the store for being "girly" and so on. But while in there a few months back with my girlfriend, who funny enough, demanded that we by all new pillows for the bed, I bought some kick ass chairs and a poker table, and although I get some initial snickers when I tell my friends where I got my stuff, I can see in the back of their mind they are thinking dang I need to swing by there and check that place out.

And it's funny you guys talk about pillows. Just last week I had to stash a whole stack of them. One guy on a queen bed does not need 8 pillows. Nor does two people for that matter. Around every corner in the bed, another Extra firm pillow. Somedays I felt that they were rabbits, multiplying when I slept.
