Has Redszone been slow or quirky the last few minutes?
Roy Tucker
12-23-2004, 01:10 PM
It's always been quirky :RedinDC:
The Nutcraker has been rescheduled for Monday night. So we're not out $130 afterall. But that poses a small dilemma. My friends scheduled a Monday Night Football - Poker night for a bunch of us. It was scheduled Monday night specifically because that was the only day I could make it while I was going to be down there. If I don't show up, I won't get to see my friends at all while I'm down there and they might be short people for their poker game. The only reasoned they decided to play at all was because I requested it while I was down there. Oh, decisions decisions.

Alone in the night as the daylight brings
A cool empty silence
The warmth of your hand and a cold grey sky
It fades to the distance
The image is gone, only you and I
It means nothing to me
This means nothing to me
Oh, Vienna!

Guess what, everyone??? I'M GOING OUTSIDE TO PLAY!!! :jump:
I'm so excited!! (Yes, I am 21 years old and thrilled to be playing in the snow... It happens.) :) I'll be out there alone (well except our lawn service guys who are desperately attempting to clear off our driveway with their puny little equipment), so no snowball fights for me... However, it'll be fun just to run around aimlessly and make a snowman or a snow angel. Perhaps, if I feel ambitious, I can make a SNOW FORT!! Yippee!!! :D

Not to be maudlin, but I wonder when Riedling says he is over his dad dying.
My dad died 10 yrs. ago pretty unexpectedly. He went from being apparently healthy 70 yr. old guy to dying of liver cancer within about 6 weeks. And of those 6 weeks, it wasn't apparent that he was going to go till the last week. So it was all very swift.
A day probably doesn't go by where I don't think of my dad. Being a dad, husband, employee, and a man, I understand more and more where he came from and why he was who he was. I hit situations in my life where I wish he was around so I could talk to him. He was a pretty crusty guy (and we can all see where Roy is headed) but he was at his best in a crisis. In a pinch, he'd come through like a champ. I think every-day life he got a little bored.
But I don't think I've ever gotten over it, I just learned how to get used to it.
Hey SB, one of my favorite parts in all of the Wicked CD is on track 12 (Thank Goodness) about 4:30 into the song when Kristin starts the "There's a kind of a sort of cost". I get the chills every time she sings "There are bridges you crossed you didn't know you crossed until you crossed." What a voice!

Oh my goodness, I LOVE that part as well!! "Thank Goodness" is probably my 4th favorite song (behind "Defying Gravity," "For Good," and "The Wizard and I"). I love how Kristin can be all cute and Galindafied, but then in "Thank Goodness" she shows off her awesome belting abilities. She didn't back down in that song, especially in the part you mentioned. I really, really missed her last Friday when I went to see Wicked. "Popular" is not even worth it without her performing it.

Have you ever heard the music from Ragtime? It's completely different than Wicked, but it's my favorite score of any Broadway show, including Wicked. Audra McDonald has the voice of an angel. If you get a chance and feel like downloading a powerful song, listen to the song "Wheels of a Dream" from Ragtime. It's an AMAZING duet with Audra and Brian Stokes Mitchell (incredible male voice, played the role of Trevor in Fresh Prince of Bel Air).
Actually, if you PM me your email address, I'll email you an MP3 of it.

My stepdad called our company that clears our driveway this morning to tell them to hurry up (he can be needlessly impatient at times... It's not like any of us are leaving to go anywhere! :MandJ: ). Anyway, they told him that parking lots that normally take an hour or so to do were taking over three hours to clear off!! Holy cow!!!

I was just reading some articles about the snow. You know it's bad when the Postal Service cancels delivery!
In West Chester, the U.S. Postal Service took the unusual step of suspending mail delivery after 9:30 a.m. Thursday because only a handful of carriers were able to make it to work. Mail trucks carrying bulk mail were briefly stuck in the snow earlier today on the off-ramp on Interstate 75 at Cincinnati-Dayton road near the West Chester post office.

So I just got done PLAYING IN THE SNOW!! :D It was so much fun; I went everywhere taking pics!! I live out in the middle of nowhere pretty much, which makes it even more beautiful (as LF stated earlier). I climbed the huge piles of snow and ice that our lawn service men left after they plowed our driveway (they were HUMONGOUS), then I jumped off of them into the huge piles of soft snow. It was quite a workout trying to make my way through the fluffy stuff, since in many places the drifts were practically up to my waist. I found that crawling was the most efficient way to get around. :)
I also made 2 snow angels and wrote my sister's and best friend's names, then drew little hearts all around it. It's really cute!! :luvu:
Of course, now I'm totally exhausted from all that frolicking!! I might have to lie down for a little nap before I finally get started on wrapping gifts!!

Yeah, I know what Level 2 means. It just seems that if they're *that* bad that they're advising people to stay off for the next 48 hours, it should have stayed at Level 3 for the time being. Just my opinion.
There's major areas of Columbus that are without power and they're not even sure when it will be back up. It's awful when that happens.

And in other news, they plowed my driveway about half an hour ago! :jump:
Of course, my car is now blocked in by about three feet of snow. I think I might go try to clear some of it away soon, before it refreezes tonight. Only problem is I have no shovel. I'm thinking I'll take my dustpan and broom out. That'll be a sight! :)
I hope everyone and their families without power is okay and keeping warm. :( That is why ice sucks; power lines and trees go down, without fail. I feel really lucky that it didn't happen where I live, especially considering how long the ice was coming down here.

That's the way it was when I was growing up. You don't see neighbors helping neighbors as much anymore. I really only know 3 of our neighbors.
Most of the apartments I've lived in had elderly neighbors. I always went over and shovelled their walks or shovelled their cars out.
I think I may start to babble. Consider it a zone.
I lived next to a hotel growing up. My friends and I made a ton of cash in the winter shovelling cars out or scraping their windows. I was the only girl and the youngest and cutest ...... I made out like a bandit! :MandJ:
The Sheraton got used to us afterwhile. They didn't even mind the occasional broken window from BB gun fights or neighborhood baseball games. The guests of the hotel used to come out and watch us play. Free entertainment.

Wow, I'm shocked somebody ELSE had heard of pitch. That game is HUGE in Hamilton. That's where I learned to play and have yet to meet anyone outside of Hamilton who knows how to play. My family plays when we get together for Holidays and such. It's a fun game. High, Low, Jack, Off-Jack, Game. We usually don't play with the off jack. I like the partner dynamic that comes along with it. There's definite strategy involved in wondering what your partner has, or wondering if anyone else has any trump left. It's not my favorite game, but it can be addicting.

That's strage. My prescription was still changing when I got it. But it was only gradually changing every couple of years. It was like clockwork. I went from from a -2.25 to a -2.50 to -2.75 to -3.00 each over two year increments. That's when I got Lasik. It's the second best decision I've ever made in my life. I only wish I would have done it sooner. It's AMAZING.

I really want to do it too MWM. I know my prescription change was pretty significant the last time I went. I think I went from like -1.75 to -2.5 over the course of a year. So they said to wait because otherwise I might have to have it done twice if my prescription keeps changing so significantly.
Oh well, I guess it's my sexy glasses for the rest of the night.
The official Redszone gathering has been moved from June to tommorrow (Christmas Eve) at my house. I'll supply the beer and JD, but it wil be "BYOS" (bring your own shovel)....
CAUSE SOMEONE HAS GOT TO DIG THE GAC OUT!!! pics are on the "6 inch" thread.
We are stranded. I walked over to the neighbor's house this morning (about 50 yds away), and about halfway there, trying to wade through 3 1/2 ft drifts, I didn't think I was gonna make it. It felt like I had spent an hour on a Stairmaster!
I figured the family wouldn't find me till Spring when the snow melted.
We're trying to find someone with a plow or blade on their truck to dig us out!
You'd think in rural central Ohio, where you can't spit and not hit a farmer with a pickup truck with a blade, you'd have no problem. So far, No luck.
And all of the snow removal businesses are contracted out to the county.
My neighbor is gonna try and clear me out tommorrow. While I was over there, he had his driveway pretty much cleared out...then a county plow came by and pushed about 3 feet of snow in front of his driveway!
I didn't know my neighbor used such language! :mhcky21:
I wish this board had an ignore feature where I didn't have to ignore people, but I could ignore any post that mentioned striking out too much and lack of "clutch hitting." I wish I didn't have to read those posts.
What worries me is that there are so many people who believe it that a huge contingeny of Cincinnati fans don't care for Dunn that much. I'm also a big believer that John Allen weighs fan sentiment when he decides what moves he's going to make. I think that's one of the reasons he was so eager to sign Paul Wilson. I'd hate for them to not make signing Dunn a top priority simply because there's so much anti-Dunn sentiment out there.
I'll always be a Reds fan and I've never really had another team I've actively rooted for. But if Dunn winds up leaving Cincy, wherever he ends up (unless it's Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle) I might end up rooting them on. He's definitely my favorite player to come around in a long time.......maybe since larkin.

I couldn't agree more, MWM. Mine fave too.
I'm still perplexed that they're not working on a LTC for him (maybe they are and we're just not aware). I'm really curious as to what his arbitration hearing is going to bring. At least I think he's going to arbitration; the deadline has passed, correct? I certainly hope they don't give him another split contract; I know that made him angry last year.
Kearns hasn't been signed yet either.

I'm getting pretty upset over my grandma. Her memory is totally gone. The other day I was making lunch for her, and she told me that she wanted one of her low-sugar Klondike bars. She told me that they were in one of the freezers in the house (they actually have three). So I went all over the house, searching, and couldn't find them. When I told her I couldn't find any, she said that they were all out.
Then, today at the neurologist, they told her to remember three things: cat, blue, and seven. Then they talked to her about other topics for only 2-3 minutes, and then asked her to recite the three things. She couldn't remember any of them.
It's just so sad. She's having so much trouble climbing the stairs as well, and is just so weak. I think she may have Alzheimers based on the fact that she gets really confused and can't remember anything.

lgj, it's a tough thing to see happen. My mom is in an Alzheimers home now. It was a long slow agonizing decline with spells of depression, forgetfulness, and a whole myriad of other psych problems. My dad covered it up for a long time. When he died, it was a shock to us all how my mom really was.
She still knows our names, but she has the remembering span of about 30 seconds. When I go see her, we talk about the same things about 5 times over.
But, she's in a place where they take very good care of her and she is relatively happy (Wood Glen by the Dayton Mall). It's just sad.

I'm so sorry to hear that... That's so tough. My grandma is just about at that same place, and her situation has sharply gone downhill since my grandpa passed away a couple months ago. It's such a scary thing. She has a new cat now, but my mom is contemplating putting her in a nursing home, which means we would have to take on another cat. I feel so bad for my mom because she's the only one left to make any decisions (my mom's only sibling passed away three years ago). I try to help her out as often as possible, but my mom feels so alone, and I know exactly how that feels.
Ugh, sorry about that! I got away from the true intent of my post, which was to say that your family is in my prayers!!

You ought to know by now, experientially, what certain posters erk you, and what their stances are on certain baseball topics. So I avoid the headache.
It's a major reason why I don't post on the baseball side much.
I'm tired of arguing with people over the situation with the Reds, Carl Lindner, John Allen, etc., etc.
And you will never see me get into any more discussions between sabr-traditionalists either. I respect all people's positions.
And I have been currently re-thinking my position on the non-baseball side. I've cut back my participation, and I'm about ready to take a sabbatical.

I think it may be called "Setback" in other parts of the country.
Used to play it all the time in Syracuse - loved that game

There's been so many new posters recently I have no clue who to read and who not to read. Actually, the tipping point for me today was a brand new poster who I never read before going on about Dunn's strikouts and lack of clutch hitting. And if he doesn't show improvement this season, the Reds shold trade him at the trading deadline.

Mmmmmmm ..... lilac candles. I love lilac.
Anyone else think RedsZone is getting TOO big. I mean, we still have great baseball discussions, but it's getting so much harder to sift through the chaff and get to the wheat.

How bizarre is it that I need to feed my insaniquarium fish? They aren't real .... yet I must feed them daily or my computer will blow up. :)

I fought the "can't we one just one present on Christmas Eve" battle tonight.
One word. No.
Forgot to take out the trash. It's a chilly one tonight.
And now I've got that nice heavy drink glass, the real clear tinkly ice, and about 2 fingers of fine Tennessee sippin' whiskey.
Ah.

Computer question: my computer speakers sound like they're under water. (A lot of bass.) I've rebooted and they still sound funky.

I got my mom candles with a chocolate chip cookie scent for Christmas. They're soooo yummy!! :)
I love candles too, but we're not allowed to have them in the dorms. I do have a million of them around the basement here, though.

It's not even Christmas Eve!
Actually I always pester these guys, but it's all shtick. I don't really want to open one. All of a sudden, we get to open one gift. It's O.K. though, it's usually a mug or pajamas that we can use on Christmas morning. :)

My wife is a Yankee Candle bandito. She *loves* candles.
We have Christmas Wreath burning in the kitchen now. Candle that is.
Right next to the paper white flowers from bulbs. It's been fun to watch them root, sprout, and bloom. Except I think they smell like burnt plastic.

Those would be some interesting candles... I need some candles with a Ryan Freel scent. ;)
D'Angelo Jimenez scented candles would be pretty good, since they'd probably smell like Sweet Pea products from Bath & Body Works. :MandJ:

My mom was on a candle kick, she would burn them al over the house.... then our projection TV stopped working and when the repair man came to fix it.... he said that the wax from the candles sits on the coils of the TV and makes it not work. And it's actually true. I just thought he was retarded. Burning candles messes with projection TV's. Who knew. Ya learn something new everyday.

I felt that way for awhile. And I know of at least one other person in this thread that does as well. It's lost that family feel that it had when we started back in 2000. Unless, of course, you post in this thread. :) I guess it's to be expected though when you have the top Reds fan site on the web.

Want a good cry. Here you go. I normally don't go for sentimental stuff like this, but my wife made me watch it and I balled like baby.

And just for your own enjoyment (and DG's, evidently), I'll throw some more names at ya-
Aubrynn, Jadyn, Kayla, Talia, Julianna, Ainsleigh, and Ryanne.
Tremain, Cade, Brevin, Carson, Gavin, Kyler, and Bryant.

That's right!
I was so close to just going ballistic on someone over on the BB board. I think I exercised restraint, but it was incredibly difficult. There are some people who I wish would just go away. And a couple of these people have recently become regulars. I was so close to asking this person to make himself scarce around here.

Maybe it's time to take a break from the BB board, Mike? Sometimes that's beneficial. Otherwise, you just may lose it one day.
