Kinda sad actually, Im going to miss getting up at noon, watching back to back episodes of Saved by the Bell, followed by E.R. followed by playing poker on the internet, or playing Madden 2005, or posting on Redszone, or eating breakfast at 3pm, folowed by a nap, followed by going out with friends spending the money I should have been saving, followed by staying up and posting on redszone and watching adult swim til 4AM.

So, work has been crazy tonight. I have a LOT of work to do, and we have early deadlines. That's fine. I'm also stressed about my mom's surprise b-day party tomorrow ... we're afraid we'll have to cancel or postpone it because of the weather. Okay, whatever. I can deal with that.

But this I cannot handle:

I just called my mom about 15 minutes ago. Thought it would be a normal "how are you today" conversation. Turns out our dog is in a bad way, and my parents think she might have to be put to sleep soon. As in tonight. They were eating dinner, and were on their way to the vet as soon as they got done.

My dog is about 15 years old. She's been having trouble getting around for the past 6 months or so. She can walk and everything, just a little slower, etc. But as of early this morning, she can't get up on all four legs anymore. She tries to get up, and can get up on her front two legs, but that's it. She's not eating or drinking water. My mom is pretty sure this is the end.

It's killing me. All I can do not to sit here and cry. I don't know what to do.

*Sends out a big Rosie hug.*

Thanks TC, and everyone else. :)

I finally just talked to my dad. The good news is, our dog is still alive. The bad news is, they had to leave her in the hospital. She has to stay there until Sunday.

The vet said she thinks the dog has a neurological problem. I guess it's often called "old dog syndrome." Makes the dog unable to balance itself, which is why she couldn't get up. So they're giving her medicine for 72 hours, to see if she responds to that. And she's hooked up to an IV, because she wasn't eating or drinking for about 28 hours. Come Sunday, she'll be re-evaluated.

I'm still sad, but I'm glad that if we do have to put her down I'll at least be able to say goodbye.

Crossed fingers over the next couple days would be appreciated! :)

Don't know if this affects you, but in case:

SAT tests scheduled for Saturday morning at several sites, including Cincinnati's Walnut Hills High School and Anderson High School, Lebanon High School and Middletown High School were cancelled because of the threat of snow and ice.

Also, cancelled was the Ohio Graduation Test camp scheduled for today at Woodward Career Technical High School in Bond Hill.

Sorry to hear about your dog Rosie.

LF, good things come in 3's. You're due for a hot streak here. Women can tell.

Found the church in Clifton without too much fuss. It's odd to talk to people from downtown that are struggling to keep the parish together while out in Mason, we're building our second church in 10 years trying to keep up.

Both SATs are cancelled tomorrow AM. So I may drag the crew out of bed and go on our winter hike. What the hell, the weather won't be too bad. The weather guys are saying we'll miss the worst of it.

David Letterman is talking about iPods. They must be mainstream now.

I have a problem. It's not a problem really, but its a little bit of a funny thing. I let my son use my laptop a few months back. After he used it, I stumbled onto a blog site that he and most of the Mason HS kids use (URL completion). So I can read his blog, all of his friend's blogs, etc etc. So there is stuff going on in his life that I read in the blog, but he never talks about it. So far, it's been just kid HS stuff, some of it funny, some stupid, some touching. I'm just sitting on it. But I feel like I'm somehow snooping. Even though its wide open to the whole net. Like I said, funny.

I'm proud of ya Larkin Fan. You did it. You asked and that was the battle. She didn't bite you, you found out you can survive if she says no, and it doesn't hurt as bad as you feared or you don't feel as 'stupid' as you feared if she didn't go out with you. And the best part is, you'll never go through life wondering "if only I had asked'. Now that you know, you look for the next one that knocks your socks off. I am sorry she wasn't available. But ... and you never know, she may look at her 'options' now.

First and foremost, I am soooo sorry about your dog. Someone else in here recently went through the same thing and a couple of us shared our own personal dog losses. No disrespect, but I don't want to share that again right now. Sometimes in life, all you can do is sit and cry.

On the first part of your post: Hey tomorrow we are supposed to celebrate my Dad's birthday! And we too are wondering if we will have to cancel. My brother was in Pheonix for training. His flight got cancelled today. We just got a call, he just got home. He wasn't supposed to leave until midnight!

Wasn't it RL's dad's dog? I remember mentioning something about my dog then too. Just didn't expect to be seriously talking about it again so soon.

I hope your dad's birthday celebration works out! I am bound and determined not to cancel my mom's party, even if it means I have to drive all around the city and pick up the various 30 or so people who are supposed to attend.

Here's my forecast: It will snow some tomorrow, we might get some sleet or rain too, it'll be cold with some wind, the sun might pop out for a bit too. Expect drivers to over-react and cause more accidents than normal. A total precipitation any where from and inch to 12 inches can be expected. There will not be any tornadoes, sandstorms or tsunamis in the Greater Cincinnati Area for tomorrow. No need for an SPF higher than 5 tomorrow.

The ironic part of this is, we are also celebrating "Christmas" with my mom's brother and his wife. They didn't make it here because of the big snow. And now, of course, we are expecting ... a big snow. So that part might get cancelled once again, because they won't allow anyone to go pick them up. Heck, it might be fun celebrating Christmas in April.

I'd say you're fine, because it's right out there. You can't ever let him know you read it though. He won't be able to write honestly. It's uncomfortable, but I'd probably be a parent that took a peek at a diary now and then and did a little room exploring. Not one flake of overnight snow.

None up here either. And after they told us that we were due to get anywhere from 6-10 inches.

Me think the "flakes" are on the newsroom reporting the weather. I sometimes get this image of a bunch of meteorologists who get together, scheme, and say stuff like... "Hey! Lets really screw with the public tonight and call for a huge snow storm. Then we can sit back and laugh at them all."

I read about that blizzard they got in N.C. What was it? A whole inch of snow. They said there were accidents all over the place, people were stuck in traffic for hours, and that some had to spend the night in grocery stores, schools, etc., because they couldn't get home.

What a bunch of weinies! :mhcky21:

Less than three weeks til Mardi Gras

Are you coming in?

Anyone who has ever considered coming for Mardi Gras, but doesn't like crowds, should consider coming the second or third weekend before Mardi Gras. The parades are starting, but the crowds aren't as big. And the next weekend has even more.

This is the first weekend of parades. (There were a couple before, but it really starts today.)

My neighborhood has a little parade today. I'm either stuck here until about 3 or I have to leave before noon. And stay out until 3.The parade circles my house, though a block away.

Tonight is the Krewe du Vieux Carre, which is a really fun parade. Most Krewes are exclusive clubs. Anyone can be part of the Krewe du Vieux. Really a bunch of sub-Krewes ... like we could get a group together and call it the Krewe of RedsZone. The Krewe du Vieux picks a theme, and the sub-Krewes pick their own theme accordingly. Lots of political satire. Not as expensive to participate because they don't ride floats. They walk through the quarter, often pulling wagons and such. Really a fun parade.

I plan to go tonight, but the temps are going to drop a lot. The high today is supposed to be 72. The Low tomorrow morning, 33.

Roy, like creek said, it's ok to have read it, but are you going to continue to read it? You have to consider how you would act upon something you read there. If you read something that seriously bothers you. About your son or one of the others. Do you know who the other boys are?

What if one of the boys came out and said they had gotten some "date-rape" drugs or something? Would you approach your son? That child's parents?

If I had a child who kept a journal/diary, I think I'd try once a week or two from the start to ask that child to read me a page or two as a lead in to some quiet talk ... now, you know you can talk to me. Any problems? Any questions? Any worries?

Not expecting complete answers, but trying to keep that channel open.

I'm torn on letting him know, though. Did you know he had a blog before this? If not, you could just ask ... do you and your friends have a blog you participate in? See how he reacts. Defensive? Does he come out and tell you? Does he lie?

Just throwing out some ideas there. I'm not a parent, so take what I say for what it's worth. Having teenagers is tough at any age.

My 7th Grader is taking the SAT today. It's a special deal that doesn't count in his permanent record and is designed to give him a taste of what college entrance exams are like. He was not enthusiastic about rolling out of bed early on a Saturday to take a test that doesn't count. I can't blame him. There was a really good 6 part series on last week on the SS and I recoreded all of them and have watched the first 4. DVR is great. Makes live so much easier.

Not if the Kansas Jayhawks have anything to say about it. As much as I love him, ol' Roy boy doesn't have it in him... Bill Self is a better game coach, and Roy will end up crying tears of disappointment in a post-game press conference, just like he always does in the tourney.

Tell that to Villanova.

OMG!!!! Just got some great news!!!!!!

My parents are on their way to pick up our dog from the hospital!

:jump: :jump:

Apparently the dog is up walking around just fine, and she is eating and drinking. The vet said she's doing great, and the vet is very pleased with how the medication took. I am sooooo relieved. She wasn't supposed to come home until tomorrow night.

Of course, we're still not sure what's wrong with her. I think we'll just have to see how it goes in the next couple of days. But hopefully the medicine is all she needed, and she'll be fine for a while.

That movie wins the best ever ending to a movie in the Puffy Gallery of Movies. Check your with your cable company for availability

Also, this cracks me up: The surprise birthday party for my mom is still on tonight. My mom thinks it's a surprise party for her mom, whose birthday is in a couple days. (My mom's b-day is in early Feb.) So my mom has been preparing food all day ... little does she know it's for her own party! Ha!

Plus, my mom can't find the right kind of watch that she wanted to get her mother as a gift. So now I've been instructed to go to a few stores and try to find it. Hilarious!!! My mom has no clue. I love it. I can't wait to see her face when she realizes what's going on.

And I can't wait to see my puppy. :)

You know what they never address in the Rocky movies - that Rocky has hair on his chest in the first two but not in any of the last two (Rocky V never happened, nope, never).

You wouldn't think a brawler from Philadelphia would shave his chest.

Just sayin'

I did that in 7th grade... It made me so nervous, since I was the only 7th grader I knew taking it. However, I'm sure it was good for me in the long run. I'm sure your son will do wonderfully, and the experience will really help him when he takes the test that counts when he's in HS. :)Thanks for the affirmation. I'll pass that along. Mrs. U and I thought it seemed like a terrific idea. He's OK with it now that it's over, but he had never been through a continuous 4-hour test like that before. After he finished taking the test, he reported that it was "kind of easy." I don't think I ever felt that way about a college entrance exam.

Roy, another thought on the blog. My sister-in-law stumbled onto one of her son's friends blogs. It discusses her son's activities a lot, so she has found it to be the next best thing to having a spy, since he's away at college in another part of Ohio.

For instance, she found out that her son had a girlfriend months before he bothered to tell her about it.

Let me tell you the worst thing about your parents getting older (especially when your father has had bypass surgery). Its the phone calls in the middle of the night. You hear the phone ring and your first thought is Gawd, I hope nothing is wrong. The you look at the caller ID and realize it is just friends calling cause they are drunk. But its still that first thought which you remember.

Man, I remember the good ole days when the phone rang and that thought was never there.

Thankfully my parents are still on the younger side, but I do worry because my wife has both of her grandmother's getting older and I have 1 grandmother. All 3 of them are not "healthy", although her one grandma, who is 84 now, just retired 3 years ago. She was a teacher and they basically had to drag her out of the school to get her to retire. I love that woman. They wanted her to retire because they worried about her health keeping up with young children. Ironically, her health has suffered since she retired.

Built a fire and made another carb special this weekend. Last week was clam chowda, this week was creamed ham and potato soup. That's what happens when you buy a huge bag of taters on sale. Great weather for it though.

Out of all my kitchen experiments ..... these really get eaten up. When I try to cook healthy healthy ..... the leftovers end up in the refrigerator graveyard. I am pretty good about taking the fat out of some of these dishes without anyone being the wiser.

Fat free evaporated milk is a wondrous ingredient.

My son Grant loves puzzles, TC. I buy them for him all the time. He's getting really good at them. He does the 100 piece ones. I learned how to do puzzles from my Great Grandfather, and he was the calmest man alive. I think its funny when Grant can't find a piece he's looking for and pounds the table with frustration.
