I'm so jealous. I have zero building skills.

I liken it to golf and home repair. I do neither well, but I do enjoy both enough to ensure that the butchering of each skill will continue well into the future.
Believe me, that was the pinnacle of my career. I continued to build models and enjoy it through junior high and little in HS but hormones kicked in and my passions got redirected.

I enjoy home repair type stuff and am competent at it. My biggest beef with it is that it takes a lot of spare time of which I don't have much of. I end up doing a Red Leader-type death march to get projects done.

And golf, I 'm saving that for when I retire. From what I've observed, with golf, job, family, and marriage, you get to pick 3.

Great, now I have a death march named after me. :MandJ:

I agree with that last part. I would love, absolutely love to go golfing once a weekend when the weather is nice here, but there's just no time. If I'd do that I'd either miss out on time with the kids, time with my wife, or my yard would look like something in the bayou.

The metal ones are great.

If you have little ones, and you build them a car, it's like a huge Matchbox car, that will dent the drywall much easier when flung across the hardwood floor.

What kind of glue or cement do you use with them?

I don't see how you could be "happy" in 3.8 seconds. 5-10 minutes, maybe, but anything shorter than that, you're selling yourself short. No pun intended.

It's this stuff called "joint compound". You need that and a flat knife, almost like a chisel to...oh, the model! Nevermind. Thought you were talking about the drywall. ;)

Hey Craig, meant to ask you, you don't by chance frequent any Arizona Sports chat board do you?

There was one I don't visit that often, but I wanted to check up on for Cardinals news and pass along a story I read, and I saw a guy on there named CbusCardsFan with an OSU avatar you used to have and I thought it was you.

I am shocked that the thought of me even POSING as a cards fan would cross your mind.

Just the standard modeling glue you can pick up at wal-mart.

I remember that the die cast model had all model parts, with the exception of the car shell. Instead of being plastic it was metal. And the tires were rubber.
Other than that, it was a normal model.

I just got more good news regarding work: I don't know if any of you remember way back in late summer when I was working on some prep football preview sections? hey now! There are a few of us Cards fans out there, a sad, pathetic few.

We have to have somewhere to congregate. Although I can't stand to spend more than a few minutes reading the latest rumors and news on that site.

If you think Reds fans are a miserable, whiney lot - spend some time talking to Cardinals football fans. At least Cincy has won a Ring in the last two decades.

I kinda have alot being thrown at me off the bat, but the good thing is that The guy who's position I am taking (he is taking a higher position in the company) will be with me for another 3 weeks still. So I have no doubt that I will be able to handle the job once im off on my own.

Thanks everyone. I think he is just a little disappointed. He just found out at 3:30. I know he did talk to the City Manager for about 10-15 minutes. He asked if there were things he could have done better, or was it a bad interview, was he lacking something. He was told the only deciding factor was that the other person had experience as a Chief already whereas my friend didn't have any everyday Chief's experience. He was told he interviewed very well. Like I said, right now he is just a little disappointed, not upset. He is proud that he was selected as one of the top 4 out of 26 that threw their hat in the ring. It was a long process (since October), so he had a lot of time and effort invested into the process.

However, I do get out on the dance floor so I get points for effort.

Song in my head

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
You got someone to blame
You say...
One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it
Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's...
Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...
Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...life
One

How about this from the automatic complaint generator (http://www.pakin.org/complaint?title=Mr.&firstname=John&middlename=&lastname=Allen&suffix=&gender=m&shorttype=t&pgraphs=1)?

"I unmistakably can't let Mr. John Allen's misinformation and misguided arguments about separatism go by without comment. Let me begin by citing a range of examples from the public sphere. For starters, Mr. Allen will stop at nothing to bribe the parasitic with the earnings of the productive. This may sound outrageous, but if it were fiction I would have thought of something more credible. As it stands, Mr. Allen is right about one thing, namely that fear is what motivates us. Fear of what it means when impertinent, ill-bred knuckle-draggers put the prisoners in charge of running the prison. Fear of what it says about our society when we teach our children that Mr. Allen is forward-looking, open-minded, and creative. And fear of escapism-oriented tricksters like Mr. Allen who weaken family ties. Anyone willing to study and ponder my position on most current matters will undeniably find that neither he nor his goombahs have dealt squarely or clearly with the fact that it's only rational to think, "Mr. Allen has garnered enough support to teach the next generation how to hate -- and whom to hate -- but not enough support to impose tremendous hardships on tens of thousands of decent, hard-working individuals". It is also worthy of note that I would like to comment on his attempt to associate revisionism with favoritism. There is no association. A final note: Mr. John Allen receives most of his knowledge from "Ruffianism for Dummies"."

I had to write a check to the IRS one year for less than a dollar. It was several years back, and I think the cut off was 50 cents or something ... whatever it was, I owed just over the cut off. Wasn't exactly sure how to write a check for less than a dollar. I think I spelled it out ... "zero dollars and something cents."

I came really close to sending coins. But since it was the IRS, I wanted a paper trail.

I've gotten one of my w-2s and 1 of my 1099s. I'm waiting on the Zephyrs and on another 1099 ... or something. I think it'll be something else that serves the same purpose.

And my tax forms. Wish I had a tax form/tax table I could use to estimate. I'm always worried I'm going to end up owing. I generally end up just about breaking even. Get a refund from the Feds and have to pay the state.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Today was the 3rd anniversary of my parents' divorce, this coming Sunday would have been my sister's 18th birthday, and the Sunday after this one (Feb. 6) is the year anniversary of my best friend's death. So, if I can make it to Valentine's Day, it'll be my own little miracle. :) Ehh, I'll be fine.

Great sky this AM on my drive in.

A big ole full moon setting in the west and a brilliant red-orange sunrise in the east.

I about drive off the road a couple times rubbernecking around. I look at the sky a lot.
Is the old adage “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning” true, or is it just an old wives’ tale?

Within limits, there is truth in this saying.

Have you ever heard anyone use the proverb above?

Shakespeare did. He said something similar in his play, Venus and Adonis. “Like a red morn that ever yet betokened, Wreck to the seaman, tempest to the field, Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds, Gusts and foul flaws to herdmen and to herds.”

In the Bible, (Matthew XVI: 2-3,) Jesus said, “When in evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: For the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and lowering.”

Weather lore has been around since people needed to predict the weather and plan their activities. Sailors and farmers relied on it to navigate ships and plant crops.

But can weather lore truly predict the weather or seasons?

Weather lore concerning the appearance of the sky, the conditions of the atmosphere, the type or movement of the clouds, and the direction of the winds may have a scientific basis and likely can predict the weather.

In order to understand why “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning” can predict the weather, we must understand more about weather and the colors in the sky.

Usually, weather moves from west to east, blown by the westerly trade winds. This means storm systems generally move in from the West.

The colors we see in the sky are due to the rays of sunlight being split into colors of the spectrum as they pass through the atmosphere and ricochet off the water vapor and particles in the atmosphere. The amounts of water vapor and dust particles in the atmosphere are good indicators of weather conditions. They also determine which colors we will see in the sky.

During sunrise and sunset the sun is low in the sky, and it transmits light through the thickest part of the atmosphere. A red sky suggests an atmosphere loaded with dust and moisture particles. We see the red, because red wavelengths (the longest in the color spectrum) are breaking through the atmosphere. The shorter wavelengths, such as blue, are scattered and broken up.

Red sky at night, sailors delight.
When we see a red sky at night, this means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. This usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the west. Basically good weather will follow.

Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.
A red sunrise reflects the dust particles of a system that has just passed from the west. This indicates that a storm system may be moving to the east. If the morning sky is a deep fiery red, it means a high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain is on its way.

My wife isn't big on cut roses.

She likes cut flowers (we have almost always have a vase of flowers sitting on the kitchen island, this week its daisies), but doesn't like for me to spend $20-50 on roses. She'd rather I spend the $ on something that will live.

Coming up soon on primrose season. We make a pilgramage to AJ Rahn nursery over off Gray Rd./Mitchell Ave. and buy 5-7 plants. The greenhouse is nice because they have a canary in it that sings. Plus a couple friendly cats. A nice early breath of spring.

I guess the bean counters in Hollywood who decide how long a movie should be really don't have the audience's best interest at heart.
