No this isn't a birds and bees thread.

We have done this several times in the past, but there are so many new people, it's time to do it again.

So how did you come across RedsZone?

I came over in the great migration from Cincy.com.

IIRC, it was during the Griffey trade and some friends of mine kept getting info from this RedsZone place. I was ??? is that place.

I registered around then, lurked a bit, but it wasn't till late 2001 - early 2002 did I start getting into this place in earnest.

I came across the old Cincy board in 1997 while I was going to school in southern Indiana and didn't have reliable access to ESPN or 700. I had to resort to the Internet to keep up with the Reds; I remember in those days I thought Jon Nunally was going to be the next great Reds outfielder. :MandJ:

I lurked for a long time, and I have continued to lurk a lot over the years.
I began posting sporadically on the Cincy Board beginning in 1999, under the user name Wade Rowdon. (Former Reds 3B prospect, for those who don't recall his greatness.) At Redzone I have been Dugout, RedsLex (excuse the bad pun), and now Pressbox.

I've had to change my username because I have a bad history of forgetting my password after changing my email accounts. Now that I seem to have settled on an email account and we can create our own passwords at Redzone, hopefully I won't have this problem again. Not to brag, but I like my current name quite a bit and I don't want to change it again. :)

I hope to become a Redszone subscriber in the very near future.
So now you know the rest of the story....

I don't frequent many message boards, but I was looking around one time, and found another message board with a thread asking for the best place to discuss Reds baseball. A reply suggested this site, and there were a couple of other sites mentioned. I looked around, and like this one the best for it's intelligent, passionate, witty, and mostly civil baseball discussions. :D

It's a family tradition. My grandfather, my cousin, my brother and both my sons have all been members at one time or another. My son gave me the link to read some of my granddad's posts and I liked it. Here it's the only reliable source of Reds' information - and the board has just about any Reds news within minutes of it going public - sometimes before.

I was on the old board. I stopped reading and posting in 2000, when I was absolutely fed up with all the floods of childish trash-talking from various sources. It was so bad, somtimes more than half the threads in a post would be nothing but raw sewage. I didn't post at all in 2001 or 2002, but came back to register in 2003.

Just before the 2001 season I was told about RZ from a work cohort who is known as MUTim in these parts. MUTim and I were well aware of each other's passion for the REDS from all the REDS crap hanging in our respective offices at work.

I have moved on to a new company and have not talked to MUTim since leaving that job in Nov. 2001. But I am still at RZ and have MUTim to thank for it. I really have no other reason to get REDS info. from anywhere else. This place has it all and I really appreciate the job that the mods do here. I cannot stand the childish behavior allowed at the MLB forums and others like it. And the vast majority of people here seem to be fairly knowledgable about MLB (and other things) or just love the REDS. Good enough for me.

I frequent philliesphans.com, and at one point someone had posted a thread talking about good fan boards for other teams, and this one was listed. That was right before the Todd Jones trade, which I believe was when I first posted.

Ah, Todd Jones, that brings back some memories.

The only boards I post on are this one and the Phillies one. And when I first started reading here, I'd sometimes have to laugh because I would see someone complain about how Dunn will never be great because he strikes out too much. It just reminded me of the Phillies board where there will occasionally be someone who comes in and talks about how Abreu will never be great because he is "too lazy." Priceless. Mainly, I come here because I learn things. Not just about the Reds, but baseball in general.

We created another board on April 17, 2000, which is the register date of the very first people to officially join the site. However, as some will probably remember, it was run on the free EZBoard.com system and wasn't affiliated with 'RedsZone.com' until that was created on May 18, 2000. I can't tell you how long we've been working with vBulletin (the forum's current software) but I will say it's by far the most stable (coupled with our current host) and by far the best we've used.

My server went down so I can't reply, maybe this time. Yep, like several others we escaped from Cinci.com, what a place that was!! I also came from Cincy.com.

I found that board shortly before the 1999 season while googling the Greg Vaughn trade. Despite Richard Hand (and his "Little Red Wagon" spam), Cameron Fan, and Nux's Nutholia, we had a lot of fun that summer. However, things started to get real nasty when angry Mariner fans infiltrated our discussions during the Griffey negotiations.

Sorry if this stuff has already been discussed, but I haven't had time to read all the pages yet.

BTW, Nux's Nutholia was actually pretty amusing, but he often went a bit too far with his gags. I remember early in the Griffey talks he posted a very real looking ESPN link that announced the trade had been completed. Near the end of story, I see a reference to Spitball and a couple of other Cincy.com posters. Actually, he usually mispelled my name by replacing the "p" with an "h".

cincy.com via the Enquirer site, which I used to check for offseason Reds news. When this site started up I watched, but didn't post for a while. I remember the headline "McKeon Not Resigned" that stayed up for a while (I kept wondering why people expected him to resign voluntarily, then I got it).

I didn't post a lot on the cincy.com site (occasionally, under the name marcshoe). After everyone left I tried to read it for a while, then gave up and posted that it was time to shut the site down, even if only to start fresh in the future. Someone responded not to throw out the baby with the bathwater, and I remember saying something to the effect that there was nothing left but bathwater (I hope I didn't say that the baby was dead, but I might have). That was my last post there.

i read here for a while (a couple of years?), then registered with a stupid user name (exit spelled backward) so I could vote in a poll.

When I finally decided to post, I kept "Tixe", even though I still hate the name.

I posted on Cincy.com a few times, but only briefly as no intelligent conversation could be had. I'm sure it was long after most of you were gone.

I googled something Reds related in '05 and this came up. So I started reading it and was floored at how much there was to offer from this site. I immediately signed up and have been coming here pretty much everyday since.

And I'll echo many's sentiments that this is bar none the best forum of any kind I have ever read, including SOSH.

I used to get my kicks harassing the braves fans on the 'ole "fastball" forums and remember getting message from boss-hog about this new forum....here I am.

I love the Reds more than anything(except my Jack Russell) but I still had more fun annoying the braves fans than I did talking Reds baseball.

Don't even recall how I got here at this point -- must've googled something about the Reds. Looking back at my join date, it was on Christmas Day of 2004. Maybe I was hoping Dan O'Brien would put a quality starter under three. If only I knew I was in for the disappointment of the decade a few days later...

I'm not a big message board poster - most never hold my attention for more than a few weeks. This is one of only 4 or 5 that I read regularly, and really the only one that I post on with any frequency.

I used to frequent highheat2004.net (later succeeded by theperfectgame.net), as I liked the game. Someone had posted a story about former Tiger's reliever Ugueth Urbina's mother being kidnapped and the rescue attempt. The source of the story was none other than Redszone.

So, you can blame those guys.

I think I heard about Redszone on the ESPN boards and wanted away from the 'high quality' posters there. I only lurked there, but joined and started posting here right away, as I recall.

I was part of the Cincy.com board but I think I might have been about the last person to come over from there. All the other folks who came over seem to have an earlier join date than I do.

Google search led me here. Life and stuff have gotten in the way of me posting as much as I'd like over the past several months. Maybe I will have more chances to dazzle you all with my knowledge and wit in the '08. Consider yourselves warned.

I cant remember exactly but a reference to redzone was posted on another message board (Yahoo perhaps?) and I checked it out and decided to stay.

Either that or I was drunk, not sure which...

I was wondering aimlessly when I heard a guy in the shadows go hey bud . Turned out it was rem, saying I can hook you up with a good reds site. Before that fastball and cincy.com..

Think at the time we were discussing Gabriella Sabatini's backhand.

I was posting on the AOL Reds message board frequented by the troll of epic proportions "NEIL YNG" and it absolutely sucked. My buddy CincyRedsFan30 told me about this site called RedsZone... RedsZone is the best site on the internet, IMO.

Geesh! Boss, do you remember when I crashed the board when I posted a link to the Redszone on the SOSH board and thousands from that board came flooding here and crashed the Redszone? I don't remember the issue, but I felt some guilt at the time.

Did Nux really do that? incredible. LOL

Yep, but he removed it an hour or two after he posted it. He was a character. I remember he went off on a poster (maybe GeoJ) with a long scathing rant. The next day he asked for forgiveness and claimed to have been off his medications while existing on bourbon and cigarettes for forty-eight hours. He claimed to have spent many lost hours mindlessly sitting in front of his computer. Most of us started to feel sorry for the guy, and then he started insulting us all over again.

I also remember a very creative parody of "I am the Walrus" he posted lampooning many of the posters. He was annoying but uniquely funny.

Does anyone remember Cameron Fan, or was it Team Cameron? He was extremely arrogant and a total jerk; however, he had a fair knowledge of baseball.

Yea between reading reds.com and listening to the genius callers to WLW I thought that I was "king of the hill" when it came to Reds knowledge. Then I ran across this site and realized there are many, many more knowledgeable Reds fans out there other than just myself. They were just in hiding!! :D

I used to read rec.sports.cinci-reds (or something like that) on Usenet. There was some good discussion there but not a lot of traffic so I googled (or, in those days, perhaps even "Alta Vista'ed") for other Reds sites and landed here.

I found this place after the '03 season while doing a Google search for pictures of Reds players (Chamblee, Budzinski, Cerros, Valent, your typical big name guys). Came back once the season started to read, and finally started posting after a couple of months.

cinci.com. ever since boss invited me to switch over, the yankees have failed to win a world series.

you're welcome.

Oh, it's your fault, is it! Curse you, chili!

I was doing research for a written piece on Eric Davis and tried for weeks and weeks to find out what the count was when he hit his home run in the first inning of the 1990 World Series. Libraries, bookstores, online resources -- I could not get this information anywhere in the world. Googled Reds message board, ended up here, posted my question and had an answer within five minutes (from westofyou).

I lurk on a Yankees board, but this is the only one I've ever read regularly and posted on before. My post count is disgusting, something like six per day. There was a time when I had no access to Reds on radio or television and I think it was the dang game threads that ate up my time for a while. I totally could have saved the world by now; instead, I can give accurate stats regarding Jeff Keppinger. Six of one, I suppose.

I started out on visiting the usenet group alt.sports.baseball.cinci-reds back from 1995-2000 or so. I stopped checking it when some of the more knowledgeable posters left and it became a haven for spam and flame wars. Wandered around for a few years, mostly checking Enquirer.com for news but rarely checking message boards. Then one day I either did a search or was cruising yahoo's old directory set up and found a link to Redszone. Checked it out and have been visiting ever since.

There was a poster who used to post a ton on the usenet and I always wondered if he ever found his way here. This was in the naive days when people would post using their real names, so I'll just say his name was Geoff to avoid posting a full name in case he's a poster here who wishes to maintain some anonymity these days.
