"We all have a stake--equally. Because if we do not save the environment and save the Earth, then whatever we do in civil rights or in a war against poverty will be of no meaning, because then we will have the equality of extinction and the brotherhood of the grave."

I went to the first Earth Day 1970 at Miami University. NRBQ played. I smoked pot. Along with eleventy-bazillion other people there. It was like Woodstock.

Trivia question: what does the abbreviation NRBQ stand for?

I know WOY knows this but it stands for New Orleans Rhythm and Blues Quartet.

Here's a humbling excercise:

Footprint Calculator (http://www.myfootprint.org/)

I thought I'd do well. I don't have a car, live in apartment, etc.. But it would still take 3.4 worlds to sustain a population of me's.

2.6 for me.

I expected higher, frankly.

4.6 planets.

I am disappointed. I feel so tree-huggish. To make myself feel better... I will take a 1/2 day of vacation and drive a few hundred miles in my car.

Just for giggles, I tried to max out the number of planets someone could use:

I got 19.9 planets.

Can anybody beat that?

7.9 for me. I'm tops so far!

19.9 planets.

Can anybody beat that?

Jerry Falwell? Pres. George W. Bush? V.P. Dick Cheney? The Bush Twins? Laura Bush? Condi Rice? Babs Bush? Jeb Bush? Tom DeLay? Anything Bush?

The Bush Family may require an entire galaxy!

Don't get too upset at the "number of planets" it would allegedly take to sustain you. According to this survey, you have to be a vegan who lives in a hut and only rides a bicycle in order for one Earth to sustain you.

Trying to talk yourself into averageness, huh?

Average people are stupid, be different.

4.3 earths for me.. I would've thought it would be more with 4 kids, and definitely "producing more waste than the rest of the neighborhood".
