Apparently, you have to be in a bad slump to bat 3rd and 4th in the Reds lineup. Our two best hitters are batting 5th and 6th.

Unreal, this lineup. I know everyone got his/her panties in a bunch about Boone's lineups, but this just takes it. I don't know whether to  or  .

I can see it now, no kidding: Kearns to a Moneyball team (Dodgers?) for an oft-injured, once-highly-thought-of minor league pitcher. DanO's take: "Well, considering Kearns's injury history, we thought it was worth taking a chance on pitching." As Kearns patrols leftfield next to Bradley and Drew, leaving the Dodgers with the best outfield ever assembled and the Reds with Edwin Jackson on the DL.

Well, if Casey were any lower it sets up MORE chances of double plays ;)

I don't like the lineup, I want Casey on the bench for a few games and Kearns in.

Completely agree. I can't stand even the thought of one more ground ball to second double play off Casey's bat. They aren't even off to the second baseman's left or right a few feet. They are dead-eye directly at him.

Hey Gents,
No comments on the lineup issue--this is a hard team to make a lineup for, IMHO--but I do have a related question: why is it that Kearns can be beaten out of his job but Jimenez can't be? We see that WMP has effectively displaced AK because of his hot bat; why doesn't that happen with Freel and Jimenez? Why the he's-our-man attitude for D'Angelo, especially when he's likely the worst in the starting 8?

Freel/D-Lo

Using the Runs Created formula, we can guestamate how many runs it's cost the Reds playing Jiminez over Freel.

Currently, Freel and Jiminez have created 8.0 Runs (Freel 4.5, D-Lo 3.5).

If you multiply Freel's RC per TPA and multiply that by the number of Jiminez's TPA's you get 7.73 RC. If you do the same for Jiminez for Freel's TPA's you get 2.04 for a total of 9.77.

The Reds have lost just under two runs starting Jiminez over Freel. Over the course of the season, that's just under 22 runs the Reds would lose (based on current numbers of course).

Also, a heads up.

Although no Tornado Warning has been issued for Boone County yet... I think I'm beginning to see a little rotation/"hook echo" on radar. A warning with that cell wouldn't surprise me at all.

Anyone in Franklin County, Indiana should also be on the lookout. That storm already has a history of producing a possible tornado further west.

Nice job by Aurilia there to miss the catcher by 40 feet to the left on the relay throw. Not like it would have mattered with Burnett's triple, but still. Lo Duca was out by 10 feet.

You've gotta go to the "Multimedia" tab on MLB.com and then select "Gameday Audio"

Then you get a choice of Home Feed or Away Feed (WLW).

Once in a while. Not often enough to back up the outfielders and concede any chance of throwing out a fast runner trying to score from second on a single. A single being what 143 of Castillo's 164 hits were last year. What would a manager playing the percentages do there?

Not disputing some of Miley's other decisions, but playing outfielders deep with Castillo at the plate and a runner on second would have been the indefensible play. Sometimes you do the right thing and it doesn't work out. That's baseball.
