Alright so some fans may be classless, but their loyalty has to be one of the best in the majors.
Jason,

I don't want to turn this into a debate that doesn't belong in here, but I don't see how you can call a "fan" that turns on WGN, sees a game and decides to go yell for the Cubs on the road "loyal."

I have sat behind Cubs fans in Cincinnati who scream thier heads off when something good happens, curse the Cubs on a strikeout, then when Niefi Perez comes to the plate says "who is that?"

I don't call that loyal. I call that WGN trend following.

There are multiple fans doing that.

Last night there were many out near CF chanting: "Griffey sucks, Griffey sucks".

I heard one tonight, when he struck out his first time at bat, yell to him that his career was over.

I really, really don't even remotely like the Cubs or a whole lot of their fans.

That is definetly not the definition of a loyal fan. What you described is a "fairweather fan", but I don't think you can put a majority of Cubs fans into that catagory. The Cubs usualy bring the most fans into GAB if i'm not mistaken'. Maybe the Cards bring as many.

Milton is killing me. He's no better than Wilson.

Get used to it. DanO's inveterately inept legion of acquisitions/extensions are here to stay and perform in this manner for a long time, and any hopes of contention during their tenure are futile. What does one expect when you throw this much long-term money at extremely hittable, high WHIP/baserunner, HR prone duds... and the 6+ERA they (Wilson, Milton, Weber, Weathers et al...) have produced in April, is not far off from what you should expect. DanO is 0-for-Life and counting in acquisitions which have helped this club, and is batting nearly a perfect 1.000 in acquisitions/extensions which have crashed and burned.

This is exactly what we told people to expect out of Milton, and as his ERA creeps towards 7, and his HR allowed pace trends towards maing history... it's EXACTLY what we've gotten.

Griff has the most warning track shots of anyone in the league, but I can't help but think he is turning the corner. Casey and Ernie Lombardi are kindred spirits this year as well. Case has turned into a DP machine. But I am remaining positive, although I think that a four run lead to a highly paid free agent starter should be enough. Wishful thinking?

Actually the guy has had a winning record pretty much everywhere he's been

....not sure if that's going to matter at this rate...

It's NEVER mattered. He was always going to get hammered at this kind of clip, and anyone who looked at his peripheral barometers knew that the day we signed him. Wins be damned as a measure of a pitchers success, be it for one year or 4 -5 years... he's a guy who allows opponents to hit him at a high clip, and who allows them to hit him hard in the EBH/HR category. We could have saved ourselves, $25 million, a bunch of terrible IPs, and allocated some money and development time towards helping ourselves, if our inept GM, FO and scouting staff had looked beyond the "winner, savvy vet, innings eater cliches" and evaluated him properly. Ditto for Paul Wilson's absurdist extension.

Populism, sacred cow syndrome. If O'brien wanted to get rid of Wilson last July, he couldn't and I bet was pushed to sign Wilson because the "players" liked him. Ditto, the players helped bring in Milton and than used their pull with Lindner to seal the deal like with Larkin which the budget allowed.

Funny thing is that so many people (even Sean Casey and co.) were suckered into thinking our front-office cared just because they did something with the Milton signing.

But to the Reds faithful, that have been starving for something,
ANYTHING the past few off-season's, any spec of a crum would seem
like a Big Mac combo meal supersized with a Coke, and those are pretty
damn good sometimes. Forget the fact that your competitors are treated

I was cussed at, and called a pessimist because I predicted this.

I really wish I was wrong, especially now.

It's not fun to watch a guy go out there and get his brains beat out every start.

His fastball has got to be the straightest I've seen in years.

I feel really bad for the guy. When he gives one up, he knows it, and just kinda hangs his head down and kicks dirt. It's got to be a horrible feeling.

I know you did, and it was so obviously the right call at the time. Some are in favor of change for the sake of change and spending money (burning it rather) for the sake of burning it... which makes all "name" acquisitions seem good. Change isn't progress. Anyone should have been able to see what signing Milton, extending Wilson would mean... now we get to reap what DanO sowed and with contracts that are going to be hard to move, and which might prohibit extending some young players who actually are our future. Milton will be like this all year with his 2 mediocre primary pitches... a few tightrope acts where he keeps teams off balance enough to get a 6-7IP 2-3ER type of win, followed by barrages of 5IP 6-7ER type outings.

Thank you very much.

This is what I've been feeling since the signings began last winter, and you've just summed it up in one paragraph.

What is it about Milton that makes him such a gas can?

Is it the straight fastball?

Does he fear the walk so much that he'll groove pitches early in the count?

Does his fastball lack the velocity to be located as high in the zone as it normally is?

Does he hang breaking pitches?

I don't know, but it sure looks like opposing hitters get him figured out very quickly.
