Maybe, just maybe, we'll hear tomorrow that they gave instructions not to throw anything hittable. I hate to pass judgment without waiting to hear what the manager says. But if they decided to pitch to him there, it was nothing but stupid. If they did, that's still their bad. Valentine is too freaking wild to throw strikes, so what would make them think he could throw a ball on purpose?

Fat pitches down the middle from our chuckers are not weird breaks. If you're ok with this night after night, day after day, two years running with no end in sight, OK. Personally, I'd like to see us do something different or join a slow pitch softball association, one or the other. But if we're going to stay in the major leagues, I'd like to see us find some major league pitchers.DanO had 2 directions to go in the past offseason and he chose the Bowden route ... cobble together a pitching staff from what was available rather than building one from within.

Oh, the whole league is like that. Watch when Grande and Welsh talk about career numbers against the Reds nowadays. "This guy just tears up the Reds. He has a career .571 average with 23 homers and 65 RBI in just two years in the league." Each team seems to have three or four guys who are in the high .300 or .400s career against us.

My big complaint about this game is the use of Valentine in that spot. He hasn't pitched much at all lately, is young and erratic. Would have preferred almost anyone else in tie situation there. Mercker perhaps.

These things happen at Wrigley, can't get too upset about the one game. The most upsetting part is that the Reds allowed about 26 runs in the three game series, which is pathetic.

I'm very disappointed and puzzled by the decision to pitch to Lee. I know it has been hashed, rehashed, and hash browned again, but this is elementary. It should have been simply ASSUMED that we would walk Lee in that situation - there should have been no decision. The fact that he pondered it is bad enough, but the fact that he chose against the intentional walk is beyond baffling. Not only was the decision made to pitch to him, apparently someone sent a memo to throw grapefruits across the middle of the plate because there were two pitches in that AB that were homerable. One of them is still in flight.

Currently, there are 91 of us complaining about this. Sorry to add to the fire. I need to vent. Managers should have their jobs questioned over decisions like these.
