Why haven't other teams figured out Pena?

'Cause when his bat meets the ball, it goes a long way, regardless of location of said pitch.

Does he need to learn to take a walk?

Well, yeah, but he's got the ability to make a "pitcher's pitch" look like a hanging slider.

Problem is, that's a streaky type luck thing, not something he can bank on.

Patience, patience, patience Wily Mo.

PuffyPig

The Reds not just get a few breaks for a change, but actually take advantage of them. I'd say the key was Pujols' ill-timed attempt at the tougher out, instead of taking the cinch to first.

That cost the Cards 3 runs.

What is the theory in using Wagner in the 7th? Forget whether or not he struggled in his last outing/is struggling a little right now. What happened to him being the setup guy, the 8th inning guy? Surely they don't anticipate using him for 2 IP each time.

I guess they wanted him against the bottom of the order tonight after Saturday's debacle. But generally I agree with you. I didn't like him coming in for the 7th Saturday because it suggests that Miley wants to use him 2 innings at a time. I like Weathers/Mercker in the 7th, Wagner 8th, then Graves.

No matter what the outcome of the game, I think Eric Milton deserves alot of credit for his outing. Some people's feelings of him aside, he pitched a very fine ball game. He may have been able to come out for a batter or two in the 7th if not for the error, but 6 innings of 2 run (1 earned) baseball against this lineup is big. This bullpen has been getting taxed real hard recently and Milton's outing is just what the doctor ordered.

Good game, Eric.

It's weird with Aurilia. Just when he's been bad enough over a stretch of time to think that Miley might just start going with Lopez, he goes out and has a really good game. It's happened like that a couple of times this year already. Tonight's performance bought him at least another week or two. But just to be sure, I'm very glad he played well tonight. Talk about bad fundamentals from the "solid veterans" there. Not only does Aurilia not square himself and lays down a horrible bunt, bud Randa was practically standing on first base when the bunt was laid down. They showed a replay of Randa and he barely took a walking lead knowing the bunt was on. That's bad baserunning.

What was the post last week? Something like: 11 in a row. Dat is a fact. 6 for 6 this season. Dat is a fact. What more can the guy do?

Graves does save games. That's a fact. It's also a fact that he creates save and win situations or himself, and sadly, that is a fact. Graves is a closer that causes the pitchers behind him to incur runs, and he puts your team in unnecessary jeaporday on a nightly basis. If I am an opposing GM, I don't even breathe when Graves' name is mentioned.

Mutaman
05-02-2005, 10:28 PM
I know baseball is a hard game to play, but you don't walk the first two guys up with a 9-3 lead, when the tying batter hits it to you, you make sure you get in front of the ball and keep the runner from going to second, and when you bunt, you get the bunt down. This is a bad baseball team.
