CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Cincinnati Bengals claimed quarterback Craig Krenzel off waivers from the Chicago Bears on Monday, bringing him back to the state where he won a national championship in college.

Krenzel, a fifth-round draft pick in 2004 out of Ohio State, appeared in six games last year and became the first Bears quarterback in nearly 40 years to start his career with three straight victories. But he lost his last two starts and Chicago waived him last week.

Last year, Krenzel was 59-for-127 for 718 yards. He threw three touchdowns and six interceptions.

He was a two-year starter at Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to a 14-0 record and the national championship in 2002.

The Bengals also waived linebacker Khalid Abdullah and defensive tackle Terrance Martin on Monday. Abdullah, the Bengals' fifth-round draft pick in 2003, played in 16 games as a rookie but missed last season with an ankle injury.

Martin played in two games for the Bengals last season.

Confusing move - Krenzel wasn't that great with the Bears and I just am not sure he has much pro potential, but I guess I'll wait and see how he does, or how long he sticks around.

They also cut the LB Abduallah, who had suffered a bad ankle injury last year. LB will have quite a dogfight for roster spots in training camp.

With Bramlet doing so well in NFL Europe, that is surprising. Unless they are going to try to do something with Kitna

Krenzel is a warm body for training camp ... Unless of injury he will not make the Bengals roster

I doubt Krenzel will make the team. But I was a fan of his at OSU so I hope he does well.
