I think the thought of moving Dunn to 2nd and Griffey to 3rd in the same day would just take way to much out of this coaching staff and they would have nothing left for the game. I think we will only see one move and the rest will be the same type of lineups we have seen all year.

Well, Narron did say in one of his first interviews with Marty that he may put Dunn at 2nd and move Casey down. Glad to see that he wasn't just blowing smoke and that he is willing to make a switch. Let's see how the rest of the lineup shakes out and if it gets the Redszone stamp of approval. I think particularly with Freel out that the 2 hole makes the most sense for Dunn. I would prefer generally, however that Dunn hit in the 3 hole with griffey behind him. Here is what I think we'll see:

Griffey plays:

Lopez ss
Dunn lf
Randa 3b
Griffey cf
Casey 1b
Pena rf
Aurilia 2b
Catcher
Pitcher

No Griffey:

Lopez ss
Dunn lf
Randa 3b
Pena rf
Casey 1b
Aurilia 2b
Catcher
Romano cf
Pitcher

My lineup (with dunn 2nd, casey 5th)

Lopez ss
Dunn lf
Griffey cf
Pena rf
Casey 1b
Randa 3b
Aurilia 2b
Catcher
Pitcher

No way aurilia got dropped to 7 or 8th. hes got to be out of the line up... he'd complain to much if he was in there.

Normally, this is where I guarantee a Reds victory (because it is my birthday today and the Reds always win on my birthday - you can look it up).

However, since Eric Milton is scheduled to be the starter tonight, I just can't do it.

Wouldn't it make more sense to flip Pena and Aurilia? That way, you would have a threat to go deep behind Casey, so he will see better pitches. And then there is Aurilia behind Pena instead of Valentin. Also splits up the more strikeout prone Pena and Valentin. The only arguement for Aurilia in front of Pena is that he strikes out less. It just seems boneheaded to me.

Strikes out less, gets better pitches, and hopefully increases the slightest of chances he gets moved at the deadline?

I dont know how to just cut and paste it to have it be perfect. I have to use the space bar and hit preview post untill I get everything lined up.... but in order to do that you have to use the Code thing (#).

I cannot beleive people are happy Dunn is batting second. Let's trade him now. If he is on this team for his OBP then fine, let's pay him like you would someone with a high OBP that scores runs, let him sign a 5 year $30 mil contract. I'd be fine with that. To keep this man in Cincinnati it is going to take upwards of $10 million a year, I'm sorry but he is not worth $10 million per year because he scores runs and has a high OBP you can get those guys a dime a dozen. He is going to be paid like a slugger so if the Reds have already given up on him as an RBI slugger and accepted that he is a Run Scorer that hits homers with no one on base, walks and can't hit in the clutch, then its time to cut ties.

I like Dunn, but he is not worth what it is going to take to keep him here. He is tradeable and there is a lot of value you could get for him. Make this team better, make the TRADE!!!

Whoa.

Only 16 players in the NL have a higher OBP than Dunn. Only 9 have a higher OPS. 30 general managers, plus myself and other fans would like to know where all these high OBP hitters are. They must be hiding in your house because you are the only one who feels they come a dime a dozen.

Btw out of those 17 hitters with a higher OBP than Dunn, only six come cheaper than Dunn.

I think most people might agree that Dunn may be too expensive for the Reds to commit to and that if the right deal came along then to go ahead and trade him. However, I think people would disagree that Dunn would not be worth the money, even if he hits 2nd the rest of his time here. I would prefer him 3rd, but no lower than 4th. Perhaps you've seen other discussions on this board regarding the issue. I'm not going to go into it at lentgh.
Dunn 2nd is better anyday than 5th, 6th, or 7th. He is our best run producer if put in the right spot. Nobody has been hitting behind Dunn all year, so he sees no pitches with RISP. He has the least opportunities with RISP and has led of the most innings besides the leadoff spot. You also want your best run producer closer to the top of the order so he sees more at bats. Would you rather Aurilia or Randa with more AB's than Dunn? No. Would it help Dunn to have Griffey behind Dunn? Yes. I'm not sure that with Randa in the 3 hole tonight that it will do Dunn much good, but at least he will get more opportunities.

So is Dunn's job to get on base or drive in Runs Mr. PostaStat?? His #1 job is to drive in a freakin run, he is a power hitter. He is not a leadoff hitter. If his job is to score runs, he needs to drop about 50 lbs of muscle and run a tick faster, steal some bases, then I'll have no complaints about him having a high OBA and no RBI's.

Dunn's job is to avoid making outs. He's doing a fine job of that. I don't see you being hard on Casey for his lack of rbi. Why Dunn but not Casey? What gives? He's got less rbi than Dunn, despite hitting third all season and having a higher average.

Under MLB rules if a game is tied after five innings and called because of rain or whatever all the stats count but the has to be replayed in its entirety. Why it has to played all over is only known to MLB? I was going to ask this question myself. I don't why you couldn't pick it up at the point where it was called. They do it high school. Or at least they did quite a few years ago in Kentucky.

FYI 2001MUGrad, you're not alone in your opinions. Many (including me) share your opinion of what a TEAM consists of and understands that different players have different ROLES.

However, in this forum there is a vocal group who has a little more one track view of things. You'll get private messages from folks who appreciate your position but in the discussions the one track folks outnumber.

Not to mention the rules aren't exactly "fair". To wit, that name calling post by WestofYou would have gotten you or I banned.

Such is life.

It's not like WOY wasn't provoked. It's one thing to disagree with someone, which I do from time to time, but to do so while throwing out silly names is just a bit immature. A few people have disagreed with me before, but nobody has resorted to calling me any silly names, and that is what sets them apart from other posters.

It is clear that we all care alot about the fortunes of the Reds, for better or worse. Often that engenders strong opinions on what the Reds should do to better their fortunes. When some members see opinions and analysis that they feel puts forth or reinforces ideas that would only further hurt the Reds chances for improvement, frustration and lack of patience can take over.
We are all entitled to our opinions, but if we desire to express them here, than we should expect that others will respond in kind. We should all understand that there are various levels of knowledge about baseball on this board. We should be here to learn as well as contribute. I think we could all do better at times with having more patience with others opinions, however.

Do you think everyone on Old Red Guard agrees on everything? Cause they don't, not even close.

The two forums have nothing to do with what one's opinion is. It's not like everyone who thinks one way is an ORG poster, and everyone who thinks another way is a Reds Live poster.

If I could there are a couple posters that seem to seek anything I say out. The clique members for the most part were not part of this discussion on the game thread until one of them posted something. Oh, and btw, it does kind of tick me off when I get docked rep points for an opinion. You wanna dock me for my name calling of another poster, that's fine, but what is this Nazi Germany to attack someone personally for an opinion?? Which one has done 3 times now.

And just who, exactly, are these clique members? I see this a lot on the board and to date, no one seems to able (or willing) to name them.

In addition, ANY POSTER is allowed to take part in a discussion, not just those you deem worthy (or not). Just because someone is not in on it from the beginning does not exclude him/her from participating when ever they have a thought to present. Maybe they weren't on the board when the discussion began, maybe they didn't have anything to say until someone's comment piqued their interest... there are many reasons why "they" may have chosen (or not had the opportunity) to participate until the discussion was well underway.

I do agree with you about the neg points.

This is just an assanine way to say everyone is not welcome to join your discussion. This is a public board, not a private one.

Give it up, bro. You can't win. There are a dozen or so posters on this board who have the freedom to personally insult other posters. And if you think it's bad on the message board, just wait til they start with the private messages. All you have to do is disagree with one of them, even over something as simple as a difference of opinion, and you become a target.

I've been on the 'net for almost 10 years now, and I've spent most of my time on the various sites of my favorite sports teams; Kentucky Wildcats, Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. But this is the only site I've ever been on that allows a particular group to continually trash other members.

I'm guessing this post -- or at least part of it -- will get deleted; but hopefully someone will see it. Or at the least, the person deleting it will think about it.

Terry,

I too, have come under the same scrutiny with my opinions. It's just a shame that a website like this can be degraded by a few people bent on changing the opinions of others. To be even more specfic, a bunch of posters who desperately want to win an arguement. It's pretty sick when a person cares that much over who's wrong and who's right on a forum. I would like to see the forum do away with the neg points and only give positive ones. If someone doesn't like the opinions of another, he can just grumble or reply back. He or she shouldn't be allowed to neg anyone unless they violate the rules of the board, which should totally be up to the opinions of the moderators. Postive rep points only would make more sense to me because people could only go up or stay the same. Not flucuate so much as everyone does, based on someone else who doesn't agree with their opinions. Perhaps maybe than people could give positive rep points based on actual baseball knowledge not just a funny remark or because their buddy needs some. Baseball knowledge is stats too don't get me wrong. But I would prefer someone that actually knew the mechanics of the game. How to change a batting approach for a Reds player or alter the mechanics of a pitcher who throws with all his arm, are a few good examples of what I am getting at. That is more baseball knowledge, it seems to me, than to copy and paste some stats. Anyone can do that and prove almost anything. There are so many stats out there today I could prove that Rich Aurilla hits more balls to second base with an Abe Lincoln goatee than he does without it! Bottom line, postive rep points should be given to those who offer knowledge that is not easily obtained.

Finally, I am not saying those few in the so called clique no little about baseball. They surely know alot. They have thought out their opinions and offer up very convincing ones. However, it is childish to neg someone for having a different opinion. I have never given anyone neg rep points nor will I ever. Who am I to neg someone elses post? I guess my ego just doesn't have the audacity. If you are one of those people who neg people based on differing opinions alone, than pat yourself on the back. You just secretly got them back! I hope it feels good doing that on a WEBSITE!!

You all ever think negs are given not for the opinion but the presentation?

Of course not. All negative rep points are given out by a group of buddies- most of whom have never met each other, and all of whom have disagreed with another member of their "clique" at some point in time. None of the disagreements from the internal "clique" members have ever turned into a heated argument. No one person from this "clique" has ever been rightfully told by someone in authority to shut up because they were making an arse of themself. In fact, the "clique" does not listen to mods or forum owners because the "clique" is above that. At no point in time has any member of the "clique" ever needed to re-evaluate their own behavior and adjust in order to better interact with other "clique" members.

All members of the "clique" have always been held in high regard by the entirety of the original members of the board and have been seamlessly assimilated by this Borg-like group who do nothing but figure out neat new ways to post stat after stat because they don't really know anything else about baseball. Heck, the "clique" don't even watch the games. There's no need because the "clique" doesn't understand concepts like batting style, defensive positioning, or the difference between a two-seam and four-seam fastball. After all, the "clique" is not interested in knowledge- only conquest.

Resistance is futile. I am Locutus of Redszone. Lower your baseball argument and prepare to be assimilated or you shall be destroyed.

After thoroughly thrashing a hapless new member of the board, all "clique" members get together in an internet coffee shop, drink virtual cappucino, and conspire to give the new member negative rep points for holding a different opinion. They never give one of their "targets" positive rep points when said "target" alters their approach and demonstrates a willingness to get along and contribute. Frivilous games ensue such as "Pin the Neg on the Newbie" and they draw staws for the right to send profanity-laced threatening PM's to unsuspecting wholly-innocent board members.

Even worse, when faced with disagreement, the "clique" illuminati plants subliminal messages in their posts called "logic". This special message is deciphered by special software each other "clique" member has installed on their PC. When their PC identifies this signal, transmitted below the range of normal human comprehension, "clique" members are forced to enter the thread and (shhh...) AGREE with the member using the "logic" sub-program and are immediately forced, even against their own will, to give that member positive rep points.

My point is some of us get "negged" for negative comments. Some of us get "negged" for disagreeing with certain posters. Some of us get "negged" for taking shots at a player, even during game threads when diehards tend to "kneejerk". It's all about "negging" now, unless you're a member of the other board.

Read the game thread on the other board -- the link I was referring to; it's ok to make fun of Casey and Dunn over there -- or anything else Reds-related. It's laughed upon. But the slightest hint of a negative comment on this board is considered NEGATIVE -- and you get "negged". And of course, it's the other half that does the "negging".

This has gone from the best Reds message board to the worst sports board I've posted on in my ten years on the internet. It'd be fine if this site was divided between a pay site and a free site -- like the Rivals sites do. But that's not the case here. It's become a site for the have's and have not's. And it's obvious who has rules and who doesn't.

Just look at the number of posts in the game threads on this half of the board now, compared to what it use to be. That says it all.

There is a secret Clique of Redszone.

We meet every 3rd Tuesday at the VFW in Cincy, where we have a alter to the sacred stat of OPS.

Each meeting kicks off with the members chanting "Appono Crepido", latin for On Base repeatedly, while the high council members light candles in front of the shrine to our sacred player, Adam Dunn.

Upon gaining membership to "The Clique", you'll be granted the rights to wear the clique's secret membership hat at all "Clique" functions.

I can't believe all these posts about "The Clique" and no one will fess up and tell the truth.

Well, I'm not afraid of the backlash.

Hmmm,

Well maybe those of us on the outside need to come to the meetings and "bust some stuff up." But, I'm thinking there is a magical genie that is worshiped that spits out numbers and that is what the clique beleives in. I mean that's the only reasoning I can come up with. Maybe I need to drink more or something so that crazy ideas make more sense.

I don't know if you were serious or not; I suspect not. But either way... it's Mel Gibson.... or Dan O'Brien.
