Collinsworth goes to NBC for Sunday night football

July 13, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- Cris Collinsworth will leave Fox to become a studio analyst and co-host of NBC's Sunday Night Football, which will begin during the 2006 NFL season.

It will be the second stint with NBC for Collinsworth, the former Cincinnati wide receiver, who was with the network from 1990-96.

Last season, Collinsworth was an analyst along with Troy Aikman on Fox's lead game telecast team with Joe Buck doing play-by-play. Collinsworth joined Fox in 1998 as a studio analyst and also has worked on HBO's ``Inside the NFL.''

He played for the Bengals from 1981-88.

Under its new contract with the NFL, NBC will have a one-hour studio show before the game telecast, which will start shortly after 8 p.m. on the East Coast

Will there be enough oxygen in the booth for both of them?

Am I missing something here? The article says Sunday night football on NBC but the thread title refers to Monday Night Football with John Madden.

Who's gonna do the play by play? The last I heard they were trying to hire Al Michaels away from ABC to do the play by play. But at this point nothing is final yet.

It will be Sunday night. NBC won the Sunday night package and both announcers are moving to NBC.

ESPN won the Monday night package. They have not announced their crew yet.

They way I understand this is Collinsworth is going to be on NBC's pregame show. I don't think he will be in the booth for the game.

I think that's right, too.

WV, did you mean to type "SNF" in your thread title?

I think Marv Albert still has an in at NBC.....

Tom Hammond does the Notre Dame games with Pat Haden, that's an option.

Please, no Dan Hicks....please....

On WLW this a.m., I heard a replay bit of a conversation Cris had w/ Andy Furman, and he mentioned the NBC job will give him more time at home w/ his family. His kids are growing up, and he felt he needed to get that part of his life back in order.
