??? Sure, Carl does have complete control over the team's finances.

He authorized the signing of Milton without consulting the limiteds. He authrorized all the other payroll increase this past winter. Lindner also authorized the Jr and Vaughn payroll increases.

The only example I see of a limited partner having any impact is when Reik stepped in and persuaded Carl to sign Larkin for one more year.

Everyone else is pretty much a silent partner, except in Furball's imagination.
Remember, Carl does have controlling interest in this club, he can pretty much do as he pleases, just like Marge could.

No he doesn't. A budget is made, with partners consent. Lindner had Milton fit into the budget, because he had the authority to do so. We all want good ballplayers, but it's going to be a long time before we get enough of them out of the farm. Thus, it's going to be no money = no players for quite awhile.

Yeah but some people want to overpay for everything.... like multi year contracts for catchers over 30, or Paul Wilson and Eric Milton.

ok, so how do they decide on this budget, do they take a vote? Who authorizes Carl's budget?

If the partnership was truly run as you think it is, the general partner shares wouldn't be worth the premium Carl paid for them.

They aren't. Carl took over operations to keep it in "Cincy" hands. But his powers are not extensive like Schott who owned over half the shares. The ownership structure is not the same as pre-2000.

The Reds actually, had been continuing the monetary policy of post-95 Schott when she wanted big cuts in payroll. 2005 was the first year that the Reds made a "payroll" push to put a contending team on the field in a decade(the 99 season was payroll going back to the medium). I think Lindner's influence had alot to do with that. Sadly he picked subpar people to spend the dough.

Talent wise, the Reds are loaded at the offensive positions, with Denorfia easily replacing Casey on the roster if that deal would go down. Pitching wise, the Reds have some horrid cavities and ifs/maybes rookie type pitchers though none with huge ceiling outside Wagner. O'brien will no longer have the payflex to waste, er spend on veterens with the young talent getting raises, he needs guys like Germano and possibly Hudgins, to pan out and help him win while the offensive talent is still around, when they really do get to expensive as a collective unit.

They aren't. Carl took over operations to keep it in "Cincy" hands. But his powers are not extensive like Schott who owned over half the shares. The ownership structure is not the same as pre-2000. .

Actually, Carl owns about the same amount as Marge did (probably slightly more). Marge was forced to sell all but one of her shares. Carl bought them all. Carl owned at least one share. Marge didn't have over half the shares. She had the two general partner shares. There was actually an article recently about this. In order to change the terms of the partnership, I think it was 66% of the shares need to agree. Carl (and Marge) owned enough shares
to prevent a 66% vote against them. Why would Carl agree to a change in the partnership which devalued his shares?

There is no evidence that Carl consults the other limiteds. In fact, an article mentioned that Reik and the other limiteds were completely surprised by the Milton signing. They had no idea the Reds were after a high priced pitcher.

Whenever Bowden wanted more cash, he went straight to Carl, but ultimately Carl was the one that could overrule Allen (like on the Jr trade).

. Sadly he picked subpar people to spend the dough. .

That's the true tragedy of this year. Carl stuck his neck out, anted up 20 million more and got a worse team. I don't think he'll ever stick his neck out like that again. Of course, it's a bit unrealistic to expect the premium FAs to suddenly want to come to Cincy because Cincy suddenly wants to contend after years of ownership apathy.

What ever happened w/ Steiner and his Yankees gig?George probably blamed him for the Yanks blowing that 3-0 lead against the Sox in the ALCS last year. ;)

Reds win and Adam is still a Red. Could life get any better?

(Yes, I know, Case could be a Met).

Yes, yes it could.

1. Casey traded.
2. Dunn signed to a LTC.
3. Dan O'Brien is traded for Billy Beane.
4. Eva Longoria gets lost and somehow ends up at my house.

:)

6. I'm a *few* pounds lighter, a *few* years younger and look like Eva Longoria.

(Look out Adam)
