Hammy injuries almost guarantee a 15-day DL visit.

Which means no deadline deal.

What can I say, there's a silver lining in everything.

Good.

The Reds had no intention of trading Kearns at this time.

Casey needs to go. Trading Kearns before he shows he's back to where he was in 2003 would be clueless, unless someone wants to pay like he is.

Panicking to trade Kearns at the deadline is senseless.

Pena is more likely than Kearns to get dealt for just prospects and you don't know the injury itself, it could just be pulled. Take a few deep breaths and relax.

Kearns has likely hit rock bottom, and has bounced off the mat and heading upwards.

Pena is fine, he gets hot and cold. Pena's trade value has likely never been higher. GM's don't base there decisions on the last AB.

While keeping the car keys away from DanO is the proper course of action, it points the enormity of this team's dysfunction. The team can't even let their GM do his job. Unreal.

Exccept that neither Oliver or Reed where particuarly good hitters that year, even though Oliver was kinda like Larue, occasional power, and could drive in runs.

The Larue/Valentin combo must be close to the best hitting cathers in baseball this year.

Actually it's better, but LaRue isn't playing along like Oliver and Reed. He seemed hacked that he's not playing. 18 HR and 68 RBIs. And all from one position. Witness this...Casey with 5 HR and 42 RBI. Is it any wonder that folks rant about Case's productivity?

Harang is at 111 pitches. I have no doubt that at this stage of the season, he could easily go 125 pitches and go for the complete game.

But after his last CG, his next start was kinda wobbly, so why push him? Keep him fresh for next time. But I do note he'll likley get an extra day off before his next start, with the off day on Monday.

Unless it has changed in the last few years, it's 130 at bats or 50 innings pitched during a season (or previous seasons), nor more than 45 days on a major league roster during the 25-player limit (excluding time on the disabled list or in military service).

Padres acquire Olivo from Seattle

San Diego, CA -- The San Diego Padres today acquired catcher Miguel Olivo from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for catcher Miguel Ojeda and minor league right-handed pitcher Nathanel Mateo. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.
Olivo, 27, appeared in 53 games for the Mariners this season, batting .154 (23-for-149) with five home runs and 18 RBI. He also appeared in 24 games for Seattle's Triple-A Tacoma affiliate, batting .233 (21-for-90) with three home runs, 26 RBI and 13 runs scored.

Named to the Topps/Major League Baseball All-Rookie Team and Baseball Digest's All-Star Rookie Team in 2003, Olivo led all American League rookie catchers that season in hits (75), doubles (19) and runs scored (37). Olivo was considered a good prospect when the White Sox sent him to Seattle in the Garcia trade. As we have with FeLo, sometimes patience is needed.

anyone else catch Chris Welsh's moronic comments about how he was surpised that the A's would be interested in trading for Adam Dunn.... you know because they are into all that sabremetric analysis... maybe they don't mind all the strikeouts....I guess some teams really like guys who get on base a lot.

Well folks, this is *officially* a winning streak :beerme: Great job, entire team. Wow this team can be special next year if we get some pitching.

Well, there is two ways to look at this. First, we're 11-5 since the All Star break. In 141 innings, Reds pitchers have given up 75 earned runs (78 total) for an ERA of 4.78. Five games account for 33 of those runs. In the other 11, the Reds have pitched 99 innings and allowed 32 runs or an ERA of 3.01. Not too shabby.

So, either we need to get new pitching or we need to keep working with what we have. I don't know the answer, but I am encouraged with our current staff. Not estatic, you understand, just encouraged.

And just think how many more of each they'd have if they got to face the Reds staff 18 games a year...

Led by the offense, this team can be an instant playoff contender if they can make some moves to get their staff ERA anywhere close to league average in 2006.

He seems to have the reds in a nice winning streak though.

This was the 1st time that I have heard Hoard doing play-by-play and he seems to be much better than Mr. Grande.
