(Gotta admit, I stole this idea from another board.)

What band names do you love? What band names do you hate? Do you love some band's music but hate their name? Do you love some band's name but hate the music?

A few of mine:

Names I like:
Velvet Revolver
Cowboy Junkies
30 Seconds to Mars ( :p: )
Radiohead
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Joy Division
Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
The Polyphonic Spree
Death Cab for Cutie

Names I don't like:
Limp Bizkit (sp?)
Frou Frou
Louis XIV
Hoobastank
Bleu

Like The Killers and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs music, but not so much the names.

The Afghan Whigs were quite good. They were popular on the college scene when I used to DJ at the OSU student station, I remember them quite well.

A friend of mine in DC was involved in a local band called "Dr. Claw and the Gadgets," which I always thought was pretty sweet.

I actually think the "Blank & the Blanks" naming style needs to come back for bands. It's retro.

I loved the Afghan Whigs. Brilliant lyrics, interesting chord progressions, good stuff all around.

I loath any band name that's longer then 4 syllables, or any name you have to shorten.

Band names should be short and easy to say

Didn't somebody get killed at a show of his at Bogart's many years ago?possibly.

i know people have died at King Diamond/Mercyful Fate internationally. one dude at a show in Denmark (KD's home) died when he got his neck broken by a goat head. something about beheading with a chainsaw and it just kinda flew off with some force or something like that.....

Back in 95 I believe, I happened to be in Cincinnati for a couple weeks visiting family and decided to catch a Afghan Whigs show at Bogarts. I did not hear much of there music before, but I was a fan afterwards. Also the next day I went down to riverfront and picked up some top 4 tickets and caught the reds game and wouldn't ya know it sitting behind me were the Afgan Whigs. :beerme:

Names of bands that I love:

Death of Samantha
The Pagans
The Dead Boys
The Stooges
Thomas Jefferson Slave Appartments
Great Plains
The Starvations
Brian Jonestown Massacre
The Angry Samoans

I don't really hate too many band names because it's hard for me to be critical of that when so many good ones have been taken, but here goes...

Coldplay
The New Bomb Turks....My favorite band of the nineties, and a name that I think held them back.
Modest Mouse
Built to Spill
The Rock n' Roll Soldiers
