Rudi doesn't start
9-11-05, 11:30 a.m.
BY GEOFF HOBSON

CLEVELAND - Running back Rudi Johnson won't start the Bengals opener in Cleveland on Sunday because of the violation of an unspecified team rule. Plus, rookie wide receiver Chris Henry is inactive despite a fine preseason with Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis opting to dress wide receivers Kelley Washington and rookie Tab Perry. Perry is earmarked to return kickoffs.

Johnson, who started all 16 games last season and is coming off a Bengals-best rushing year of 1,454 yards, still figures to play heavily. Chris Perry makes his first pro start in Johnson's place. Also inactive are cornerbacks Rashad Bauman and Greg Brooks, defensive linemen Matthias Askew and Jonathan Fanene, linebacker Hannibal Navies, and guard-tackle Scott Kooistra. The Bengals could be expecting a smash-mouth game by dressing just three cornerbacks and eight offensive linemen instead of seven. Safeties Madieu Williams and Kevin Kaesviharn can also play corner.

Dang, Carson just underthrew Chad. Chad had an easy TD if Carson throws that ball further.

Maybe, but I think they will lose atleast one or two more games.

Palmer has been able to do pretty much anything and everything he wants.

Dilfer has looked better than I thought he would too.

GAC
09-11-2005, 02:40 PM
Browns had better make some adjustments at half. We're playing of the receivers too much. Like I said - its gonna take the Browns time to get acclimated to the 3-4.

WMR
09-11-2005, 02:45 PM
Tab Perry has been unimpressive on kick returns

WMR
09-11-2005, 02:46 PM
That's what I like to see:: Palmer to Perry out of the backfield.

There is not a RB in the NFL w/ better hands than Chris Perry

Looked like a good call to me.

If you're going to call the offensive pass interference on Chad Johnson, you gotta call the hands to the face on Mickens.

But the replay never showed hands to the face. Even the announcers said that. They don't know why/how the call was made.

I scratched my head when they said that. At the beginning of the play, Mickens clearly grabbed CJ's facemask. It wasn't a really bad rip or anything, but he definitely grabbed it.

Good game overall; definitely lots of room for improvement; esp. on offense.

Defense played quite well.

I would say Defense played better than Offense in this game.

GAC
09-11-2005, 04:13 PM
Well - I saw pluses and minuses from my Browns in this game. It played out for the defense just as I thought - trying to get acclimated to the 3-4.

Droughns looked good - so did our offensive line, as far as protection. Both of these QB's had all day to pass. Dilfer is not gonna last long IMO. Bryant is gonna have a solid year this year.

But our "D" is gonna hurt us early on this year until we get use to the system. It's as I predicted - its gonna be a rough go.

Congrats Bengal fans.

Defense looked great today, even though we couldn't get to Dilfer.

Palmer was in a major groove, completion after completion. With the exeption of a few botched plays (take the sack Carson!), he looked great. Oh, Chad and Rudi... keep that up
