Marc on Eddie E.
Encarnacion hurting

PITTSBURGH -- Edwin Encarnacion was at third base in the original lineup posted for today's game, but he was scratched a couple hours before gametime.

He reported to the park with stiffness in his right shoulder, apparently from the play in the third inning Saturday where he was tagged out at the plate. Doesn't sound like it's anything serious, though.

Aaron Holbert gets the start at third in his place with Rich Aurilia at short on a rare day off for Felipe Lopez.

Seemingly he's good for a HR a game against the Reds regardless of the pitcher.

I'm picking Jose Bautista for his first career HR today.

Honestly, I'm not sure we truly appreciate what Eric Milton's doing this season. We may be watching the worst pitcher ever. No joke, worst pitcher ever. Take every pitcher ever to qualify for an ERA title and Milton's got to be all over lists like highest ERA, highest BA allowed, highest OB/SLG/OPS, most doubles, most HR. He's pretty spectacular.

Also, I for one will thank him next June when the Reds get a that top 10 draft pick.

How can the Reds sqander a 2nd and 3rd with no outs opportunity? Let's see...be impatient (except for Hudson), line out and pop out on what the Pirate guys said were bad pitches, and generally suck. Then you have to deal with Pittsburgh's pretty good bullpen (at least against us). Lost opportunity.

Wonder if Narron will have Freel try to steal first??? ;)

7-6 Reds

Chip R

Chip R

Pena lines to RF but Denorfia plays hit and run with LaRue and sends him to 3rd with 1 out. Man, it's good Marty isn't there today or else he would have exploded when he said a HR with a runner at 3rd was better than a sac fly. Holbert after bunting foul on a squeeze play strikes out swinging (the K was on a swing and a miss not a 2 strike bunt attempt). Javy pinch hits for Hudson and PIT changes pitchers. Grabow is the new pitcher and induces a Valentin grounder to 3rd. Still 7-6 Reds.

Belisle pitching. Eldred leads off with a double.

Reds play musical chairs with the defense. Lopez in at Short, Freel to LF, Denorfia goes to CF, Aurilia goes to 2nd.

The whole bullpen seems out of gas. Oh well...

9-7 now and that just about does it. Larue and Lopez up first in the top of the ninth, but I think this one is over. It's a shame. We should have won all three, but since we haven't it's easier to see the flaws of Narron which might save us from him next year (not that he's that bad, but we need to look at a manager to take us to contention. I don't think Jerry Narron is that man).
