I did it. Proposed last week and held on so she couldn't run. :D

If you don't see me around as much, just know that I'm probably being asked a million times over if certain napkins look better than others or if we should serve Chevapchi's or Lasagna. :p:

Way to go, GIK! I never ever thought I'd get married in my lifetime... I did and I do not regret it a bit.

All the best to you and the soon-to-be Mrs. GIK. Eh! :)

Thanks, guys. She's Canadian by location, but was born in Italy and is 50% Italian and 50% Serbian. She's actually an American (her Mom was born in the US and retains her citizenship). A little confusing, but cool nonetheless.

Congrats GIK!
I think you will find that proposing to someone is a lot like contacting a realtor, setting in motion a snowball of events which quickly careens beyond mortal control toward a final culmination of sweat, dry heaves, professional advice from people who don't know the slightest thing about either of you and obligations far beyond what you had originally intended.
And that's just the rehearsal dinner.

Congrats GIK.

Speaking as someone who is also married to a Canadian - I can say it definately has it's benefits. Don't let the fact that I am also Canadian confuse the comparison :)

An Italian/Serbian sounds like a pretty good mix to me. A freind once told me to NEVER turn down an opportunity to marry into an Italian family. They know how to eat!

If you would like, I can hook you up with some CSL (Canadian as a Second Language) Courses :)

Lesson One:
Roof is pronounced Roof, not Ruf.
Foyer is pronounced Foyay, Not Foyur.
A Touque is something worn on ones head to keep it from freezing.
Strange Brew is an accurate reflection of a day in the life of the average Canadian male.
Canadian Football is 3 down football - not four.
Smarties are actually chocolate filled candies, not die pressed sugar condies.

Lesson Two Next Week.
Topic: Get with the program - the beauty of the Metric system.

A couple years ago I had the NHL Center Ice package (still trying to convince my wife to let me get it this year) and there would be the occasional broadcast from Canada. There were some commercials, probably for some Canadian beer, where they were making fun of Americans who try to talk like Canadians. It was pretty funny.

Thanks, Catch.

Honestly it's like I'm living the real-life version of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".

Her family owns a restaurant (and various other businesses) and are Eastern Orthodox. Looks like the wedding is going to be in a Serbian Orthodox church and I will be baptized (I've never been, physically). I'm actually pretty excited.

Thanks for the kind words, all.

Congrats!

I can see it now. The bride looks resplendent as she walks up the aisle in her beautiful white down coat with matching elbow-length mittens. Behind her trails a long white blanket from her polar bearskin hat. The thump of each boot echos as she approaches the altar. The bridesmaids, all in robin's egg blue fleece, dab at tears of joy. The dapper groomsmen are in black, rented ski suits standing in a circle before the congregation watching hockey on a small TV. And front and center is GIK, the man of the hour, confident that all will go smoothly, now that he's asked the pastor to elminate the line, "If any hoser knows why these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace."

:)
