Sorry, but I'm tired of RA's stinking and Freel's drinking. Let's turn back the clocks to 1993. With the benefit of hindsight, would you have traded Sammy Sosa to obtain Kevin Brown?

I'm curious because I think expensive outfielders may get in the way of expensive pitchers. How many World Championship teams has Kevin Brown been on compared to those played on by Bonds, Sosa, and Griffey?

I think the problem is that there are no Kevin Brown's out there and available right now. We could've made a run for Josh Beckett, but could we have topped Boston's offer? You also have to realize that Sosa wasn't traded for Brown -- there's no way Brown could've been had for Sosa before he became SAMMY SOSA.

The only SAMMY SOSA we have right now is Adam Dunn. Show me a potential trade where we move Dunn for a legitimate ace, and I bet you'd have some supporters. But when the trade is Adam Dunn for prospects (Billingsly), or Dunn for a 2nd tier guy, the value isn't there.

I'm speaking hypothetically. I know Brown wasn't traded for Sosa, but I do believe that a trade involving the two players could have materialized in 1993. Sosa was coming off a 33 homer season and Kevin Brown was moving into his option year.

I would have traded away Sosa to obtain Kevin Brown. It would have been hard to pay either player, but I'd rather sink my cash into pitching than outfielders. Good teams are built on pitching and that is where the most money should be invested. The Cardinals and Astros parade a variety of new faces through town to fill corner spots and the Red Sox and Yankees even have guys with little name recognition filling in now and again.

Should a team build around outfielders? How many championships have Bonds, Griffey, and Sosa won?

I agree. I'm not sure how well he would have pitched in GAB, though.
