View Full Version : women you find attractive that others would strongly disagree with you on

Okay...here's the deal. Who are the women you secretly have a thing for...but you'd really not like for anyone to know about for fear of ridicule?

Add photos...and explain yourself (if you can).

I KNOW I'm going to get ripped by all of you for this first one, but I'm just getting the ball rolling by being honest. For some weird reason that I can't explain...I'm strangely attracted to her...

I know, I know...I'm sick. I need help.

Now believe me, there are MANY others that I find highly attractive that you would agree with me on...I just thought this might be a fun post...to find out who some of you guys like but have always been embarrassed to admit it.

IMO it's tasteless to objectify woman in this manner.

But like I said that's just my opinion.

I think Lisa Kudrow and Allyson Hannigan are among the most attractive women in Hollywood. I'd choose them over Eva Longoria any day.

IMO it's tasteless to objectify woman in this manner.

I never understood the whole problem with "objectification".

Recognition of physical beauty is instinctual. Tests have shown that babies react more positively to physically attractive faces than to ugly faces. Adults share that reaction, regardless of gender.

So when we comment on physical beauty, why is that automatically "objectifiying" a person? And why is that deemed so wrong by some?

Usually, comments like westofyou's come from a holier-than-thou attitude and they fail to see the fun in it--they're always finding reasons to look down their noses at someone...ultimately so they can feel good about themselves for being nobler, having better morals, etc. (not saying that's where westofyou is coming from, just saying that it's usually the case).

You're right Johnny, what's wrong with saying that you find someone attractive? In fact, I think Hillary would be quite flattered rather than viewing herself as being "objectified."

But that's just my opinion.

Fair enough. But I still don't think it's wrong to appreciate beauty, and I don't think it objectifies or lessens a person in any way to comment on their beauty.

True, but when you create boundries of what is "unnattractive" in an attractive way then they'll be fraught with stigmas like "Too old... but" "big nose...but", "too fat.... but" etc... This in turns creates a subtext that such features can be a hinderance to ones ability to be seen as acceptable to the general public.

come on and admit it , you're just whipped.

20 years with the same lady, color me whipped if that's the case. ;)

As a women I don't find this thread offensive at all. While woy is right, beauty is only skin deep, it is also in the eye of the beholder, and I think this thread proves that.

If everyone saw beauty (or handsome) the same way, only about 1% of the population would ever go out on a date or get married.

But look at some of the names listed here. There are a lot of women who aren't beautiful in the conventional sense, yet some find them very attractive. I actually find it all very refreshing. (well except for Puffy and RL who spend way too much time with blow up dolls). :mooner:  ;)

Sure the sum total is okay, but her face is a mess (zits) her chin is very masculine, her boobs are fake (yeah I know that doens't matter) and her hair is so over processed it looks like straw.

I'm surprised nobody has made the distinction between beauty and attraction. There are many women who I think are absolutely gorgeous aesthetically, but to whom I feel absolutely no attraction -- or even repulsion in some cases (ie. Brittany Spears). Further, we are attracted to those things which we value.

I think there are societal (and biological) norms of attractiveness, such as symmetry and health. However, attractiveness varies wildly. WoY's point, is more to the notion that the inferrence is often made incorrectly, or implicitly suggested, that only those who are aesthetically pleasing are attractive, and thus valuable.

It's a very fine line and our language is often too muddy to make the distinction. That said, I think it's pretty obvious that this conversation is purely about the differences in aesthetic appreciation. Many of us are married to people who we are very attracted to but whom we don't think should be on the cover a magazine.

That's all I'm gonna contribute, because quite frankly I think I'm pretty much standard --- Natalie Portman, Alyssa Milano, Scarlett Johannson being at the top of my list...

No. that was the one where they had a woman who had undergone plastic surgery to make her not ugly any more. They didn't show the faces of the doctors and nurses and when they finally took the bandages off of her she was blonde and beautiful but everyone thought the operation was a failure because they all looked kind of like pigs.

Can't seem to keep her tongue in her mouth ... not that I'd mind.

On the topic of whether this is a sexist topic, I lean toward no. If you take the discussion of beauty off the table then you leave it in the hands of those who'd try to force their notion of beauty down your throat. I was raised by a feminist, but over time it was militance over topics like this (and the denigration of those women who chose to raise families) that soured her on the larger movement.

As a general rule, the world should be constantly striving to find beauty in unlikely or non-standard people and places.

Valid point, from my wifes POV (at least here on the coast) that tends to extend to the woman who chose to be with men. It's a pretty interesting dynamic that is fraught with its own stereotypes as well.

I'm baffled by some of these choices...I think that many of these women are, empirically speaking, very attractive. Who thinks Cynthia Nixon is NOT good-looking? She's got attractive coloring, beautiful skin, banging bod, and she's smart as flip to boot. Anyway, that's all tied up in what some of you are saying, beauty vs. attraction. But still, Cynthia Nixon? Babe, hands down.

"Women you find attractive that others would strongly disagree with you..." this suggests to me, well, Nell Carter for instance. I don't think she's bad-looking, but, empirically speaking...ok, now I feel bad. She's dead and all.

Threads like this don't bother me as I objectify men on a pretty much hourly basis. As long as conversations about looks remain about looks and don't lead to other assumptions, ie. Anna Benson is good-looking so must be a **** etc. There was a horrible article in the Chicago Tribune last week about how women should dress down for work or else they wouldn't be taken seriously. They even provided a helpful how-to guide on how to dress frumpily. Right, thanks Tribune, because God knows that women must play down their appearances in order to be taken seriously and that women who don't pay attention to the way they dress must by default be smarter than those who do. But meanwhile, while dispensing this advice to the "career girls", they've got a scantily clad woman leaning forward on the cover to sell the story. Just in case the world hasn't yet learned that women fit into one of two categories :bang:

Uh, anyway, women I find attractive that most of the world doesn't (in a conventional sense): Emma Thompson probably, but see this is where I get confused because I genuinely thing she's gorgeous (empirically speaking). Britney Spears is another one. My pretend male counterpart has a real thing for her, which is very weird because she's not at all the type of guy my male alterego usually goes for (like Emma Thompson).

As for the men: Benicio Del Toro. I love him. So much. I think a lot of women find him sexy though.

This is long. Sorry, this is one of my favorite topics. I live in constant hope that my dreams of an intelligent world do not have to develop independently of my hopes of a good-looking world.

Which one is which? The brunette one is better-looking. The blonde looks like she should be doing keg stands at the University of Texas or something. Which, come to think of it, she probably has...see, now I'm doing it myself, making assumptions based on looks. I'm getting out of here.

I don't know, I think Cynthia Nixon is an interesting choice (though I don't find her particularly attractive)--she's gawky, pale, has questionable teeth--she's not exactly billboard beauty--which I think is the standard most are operating under, for better or worse.

But that's cool, 'cuz my choice prefers females too. (can't say I blame her)

 for Ani, but would like to point out to Chilli that she married a guy.

Yes Ani is strangely attractive - something about women who work out and take care of their bodies that is incredibly attractive. ;)

I have also had a crush on Wynona Rider for a long time...big, wonderful brown eyes like i've never seen. Not too shabby from the neck down either.

I completely agree on Rachel Ray - there is something I'd like to do to her for 30 minutes!

Bonnie Bernstein is another. I also wouldn't kick Suzie Kolber out of bed for eating crackers (although I don't know what else she would be doing in my bed besides eating crackers, but thats a discussion for another time)

Well, I think there might be a chance that the feelings could be reciprocated.

Never thought much of Jean Smart while on Designing Women, but she has a little hottie in her on 24 this year.

Staying with that theme, Sarah Winter, Reiko Aylesworth and Connie Britton...mmmmmm.

I miss Cathy Rogers (Junkyard Wars, etc) not so much for her looks but for her spunky/hip Brit banter. Not surprised to learn she also plays keys.

On the flipside, I don't get the whole Jennifer Anniston attraction. Maybe if I had watched a few "Friends" episodes I'd understand it better? (I did enjoy her performances in Office Space and Bruce Almighty)

Yeah, this one's spiralled out of control. I find that pasting in images usually has that effect.

But the skin is what we see.
Why come on this thread several times if you find it objectable to your feminist views?
Eh?

After I replied to M2 on the "feminist" pov.

I replied once 2 days ago in reference to Cynthia Nixons appearance in a movie from 25 years ago.

But thanks for the jab.

I deleted it about 5 minutes after I posted it because it was too confrontational, I didn't realize you already read it. I do wonder why you'd open this thread if you found it offensive.

You feel the same way about the Reds yet here you are eh?

I also care little about football but I'll watch the Super Bowl.

I don't censor myself from something because it doesn't agree with my POV, why should you attempt to do that for me?
