He seems to me to be pretty...well...average. He hasnt really set the world on fire past A ball. He was EXTREMELY average last year and borderline bad to the of a 271/.335/.385 line and39 BBs and 6 dingers in 465 ABs. That doesnt seem to be anything to get excited over at all. So what am I missing in Hanley Ramirez?

Two words: Red Sox.

Teams in large media markets enjoy an unfair advantage on that score. The Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Cubs, Braves and Red Sox seem to be the chief beneficiaries. People get excited whenever they find a kid who can tie his shoes.
