Channel 19 sports director Dan Hoard's biography on the station's Web site makes it clear what he wants to do with his life:

"My ultimate ambition is to broadcast major-league baseball ... "

Hoard is leaving WXIX to get closer to that dream. Hoard will take over as the play-by-play man for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox. The move will allow him to live in Boston, where Hoard's wife, Peg, lives. The couple is expecting their first child.

"It was time to move on," Hoard said.

Hoard, who joined Channel 19 in November 1995, is one of the city's busiest sports broadcasters.

In addition to his duties with WXIX, Hoard is the radio play-by-play man for University of Cincinnati football and basketball games. He also is co-host of the "Real Reds" pregame show on Fox Sports Net.

Hoard said there's a possibility he will continue with his UC radio duties.

"I've talked to (UC assistant athletic director) Brian Teter about it," Hoard said.

Hoard added that WLW-AM (700), which broadcasts UC games, "is open to the idea."

Hoard was a finalist to replace Joe Nuxhall on the Reds' radio broadcasts. He also did Syracuse Chiefs Triple-A games.

Can't see how he could keep doing UC games when living 500 miles away :dunno:

He'd probably come back to Cincinnati during basketball season. Sounds like currently he and his wife live in different cities year around. Tough gig, especially since he only got married a couple years ago. Must be she refused to move... maybe she's got a great job that she didn't want to leave. Seems more and more career-minded couples are doing this now.

:) George Grande lives in Connecticut and essentially lives out of a suitcase from April to September, so I'm sure Horad could do it as well. I'll miss him...he's a quality play by play analyst.

Good for him. The Red Sox TV announcer, Don Orsillo, used to have that gig. So maybe this will lead to bigger things down the road.

The Boston Red Sox are a professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts, and a member of Major League Baseball's American League Eastern Division

This is some very timely information.

If you live in Boston's southern 'burbs, Pawtucket is an easy drive,so this should work out well for Dan. If his wife has them situated on the North Shore....well, they're still basically going to be living apart.

Guys, this is a seven-year-old thread. If you haven't missed Dan Hoard yet, I wouldn't worry about it.

In that case I'll settle for George Grande replacing Thom
