This web-test shows 20 different people smiling (videos). Can you spot the fakers? Very interesting.

All fake.

Nobody smiles with a video camera in their face!

Wow, I am awful, I only got 9. I wonder if this means I am a poor judge of character or if I was just too distracted by the dog.

I didn't try, but the key is the eyes.

That's what I thought too, but I don't think it's enough...take it if you have time, they say some interesting things at the end about eyebrows and the muscles in the cheeks.

I think you may be right...but I went strictly with the mouth and got 75% right.

I only got 12.

I think it's because I adjusted my criteria mid-stride. I began focusing on the eyes about midway through and started doing a lot better.

You know- this may have been answered, but how did the test makers know if a smile was fake or not?

I'm guessing they did something to get them to smile...offer a compliment, tell a joke, etc. For the fakers, they probably just asked them to smile. Make sense?

It does, but just because these were the reactions they wanted, doesn't mean that's what they were.

At the end they mention different muscles drive a real smile and a fake smile. Apparently a real smile is an involuntary reaction and has visible evidence. So at least it makes them sound like they know what they are talking about.
