Spent a wonderful afternoon n Sarasota Sunday watching the Reds and D-Rays...weather was absolutely perfect...75, Sunny a slight breeze. Bought my bleecher ticket and ended up next to a Rays fan and we shared insights into our favorite teams.

While its way to early in the spring to give real good reports on guys - a couple tings I did notice:

1) Kearns is a differnt guy. I couldn't believe it. I saw him in his exile to AAA last year when he came to Buffalo...he looks 30 lbs lighter and quick as well.

2) Bubba Nelson got pounded, but its not awful for this reason...when I last saw him pitch a AAA, he was afraid to go after hitters. He seemed more confident now, as he was definitely throwing strikes. Still, the result was awful.

3) Edwin E looks great already, terrific swing and made a great play early in the game in the field.

4) Womack is the 2b, you can just see it. And he still sucks.

5) Tuffy RHodes really smacked a ball as a pinch hitter. Jacob Cruz had good abs as well when he came in for Dunn.

6) Dumatrait was solid in the first then couldnt find the zone in the second. Was pulled after that.

7) The Reds didnt hit until late in the game, lead by Cruz, Edwin, Tuffy...

8) Upton looked fantastic for the Rays...made an absolute spectacular play at SS.

9) Edwin Jackson for the Rays looked very solid in his 2 innings. Kept the Reds hitters off balance.

10) I cant imagine a better way to spend a sunday in early march.

Thanks for the rundown deltachi, even though that Womack line makes me sad :(

One last thing, yesterday I was in the security line at the Orlando Airport weraing my Reds cap. I hear a voice behind me say, "So how do you think the Reds will do this year?"

I turned and responded, "Not good."

"Not good, huh?"

"Pitching...they can't do it" I responded.

"Yep, they have the sticks, but need pitching."

While its always nice to talk baseball, on March 7 to already know your fate as a fan for the season stinks. You could hear it in his voice, and I'm sure in mine as well.

Hubba...where are you planning on flying to?

Sarasota-Bradenton Airport is about 15 minutes from the park.
Tampa about 45 minutes-hour
Orlando (where I flew into) about 2 hours.

Yes, USAir is still flying and doing much better after it's merger with america West.

You may find better fares in and out of Tampa however...
