At least Narron is smart enough not to bat LaRue 8th because that's where catchers always bat.

My guess is that Narron must feel Freel is a better bunter as I'm pretty sure he looks for that in a #2 hitter.

Reds don't score in the first off phenom Ian Snell. Tommy Phelps matches the digit in the bottom of the inning.

And, just like clockwork, there it is in the Yahoo line score:

HOME RUNS: CIN - EDWIN ENCARNACION (5) OFF IAN SNELL IN THE 2ND

Reds up 2-0.

I like that EE kid.

Now if he could just learn how to play the game, he could really be someone by age 30 or so.

the thing i like is EdE isnt hitting all these bombs off of some scrubs this spring. radke and johnson are solid big league pitchers and baker and snell are two of the top pitching prospects:beerme:

EdE should never be handed the position so that he continues to homer every day.

I for one would like to know which scrappy, table-setter was on in front of this young, snot nose trying to learn how to play the game right. This kid is hard-headed, I tell you. He'll never learn hitting balls out of the park left and right. <sigh> kids...:D

I don't understand all the snideness when it comes to Encarnacion. I don't think anyone is unhappy with his performance. I think it's what everyone has been hoping for. Looks like the kid is stepping up. Keep it up, Eddie. Win your position on performance.

Honestly, I can't see how Narron can avoid making Encarnacion the starter from what we've seen so far.

Mike Burns apparently threw a strike to Craig Wilson, whose homer cut the Reds' lead to 2-1 (middle of 6).

I can't speak for the rest, Randy, but I am just having fun joining in and poking at a theme that has been going on for awhile. Nothing offensive meant by it. I agree - I am sure Narron, et al, recognize what is going on right now in re: to EE and the 3B position. Just having fun with re: to the quotes that have come from Narron recently.

Exactly. Plus, there's still that hangover from Felipe getting horked last spring.

In this case I think it's particularly good-natured sarcasm because it's starting to look like a mortal lock that EdE's getting the 3B job.

I took those comments to mean that Rich saw Encarnacion was gonna rake and outplay him defensively and though "oh crap, if I don't play the team-player card soon, I'm gonna get punked..."

Echo others, I read the postings re: EE's hot start as saracsm that we have had to be rooting for that so that he doesn't lose his spot.

And, really, at least the comments here make some sense. I couldn't resist responding to a couple at Lancaster's site that are critical of EE for hitting too many homeruns and say that he should be concentrating on oppostite field singles.

At least that view hasn't shown up here as of yet...

Ughh I stopped posting there, refuge of ill informed.... I'll echo it again Hank Saur was a dead pull hitter and the Reds tried to fix him, he only hit 240 or so HR's when he left the Reds, and when he left he held the team single season HR record... on a team with little power history he was treated like crap by Giles... who at the time was more Seattle Pat Gillick than Toront Pat Gillick.

This may be his chance to get a bullpen spot, unless he really only wants to start, then he should probably start looking for housing in Louisville.

Edd Roush
03-09-2006, 10:15 PM
I don't think so Gainesville, I think they announced that for the first two weeks, they would only broadcast the weekend games.

As for this game, you gotta love Kozlowski and Coffey's lines. I love seeing no walks and some strikeouts. It's not very often that Reds fans get to see gooseggs in the right categories.

I'd settle for a Yankee broadcast, I'll be working tommorow in my little cubicle with my computer in the scholarships office @ UF. It's the day before spring break and everyone else is already gone. Including most of the bosses. Even if it's not, I'm sure I'll be able to find something to listen to on MLB.com, because I'll be damned if I'm going to get any work done.

Been paid up for a week. Best $15 I've spent since EI last year. And it will be the best money I spend until picking up EI when it becomes available this year. Doesn't it feel nice to hear the crack of the wood after the long winter? (Sorry, I should be more sensitive in implying that winter is over, it probably still feels very much like winter in a lot of locations you're reading from.)

It snowed here yesterday.... made all my daffodils droop and dropped flowers off my Magnolia tree.
