View Full Version : 3/10 - Reds v. Yankees

Here's the lineup from Marc's blog...Stinnett batting 3rd for the Yanks???

Jaywalkers' Row

SARASOTA -- Honestly, what follows is the actual Yankees starting lineup for today's game. They don't even have a split-squad. So much for bringing four regulars to spring training games. WBC or not, this is pretty ridiculous.

Yankees
Kevin Reese LF
Miguel Cairo 2B
Kelly Stinnett C
Mitch Jones DH
Melky Cabrera CF
Eric Duncan 1B
Russ Johnson 3B
Felix Escalona SS
Kevin Thompson RF
Mike Mussina P

Reds
Ryan Freel 2B
Felipe Lopez SS
Scott Hatteberg 1B
Adam Dunn LF
Rich Aurilia 3B
Tuffy Rhodes DH
Austin Kearns RF
Jason LaRue C
Chris Denorfia CF
Phil Dumatrait P

Quote of the day honors go to Dunn, upon seeing the Reds' lineup card.

"How are we gonna score? Eddie's not in there..."

I think he would have gotten more time at 1B had WMP not played in the WBC.

Which sitting in the WBC isn't doing WMP any good either.

Good point. There's no reason today that Dunn couldn't play 1B, Hatteberg DH and Tuffy in the OF.

What does mocking do? does mocking lead to runs?

I tend to think that's why Aurilia regrouped after his horrible start last season. Until then he hadn't been properly mocked. Dunn keeps hitting homers thanks to the mockery of his K totals. Mockery helped drive Jason LaRue to his career-best last season. It's no coicidence that Felipe Lopez bust out once people started calling FLop. In fact, I'm pretty sure mockery helped Austin Kearns lose weight this offseason.

Unfortunately, mockery seems to have no effect on pitching.

Yeah, I realize that he's behind schedule about a month, but last year he wasn't behind schedule and he stunk the first month of the season. Does that mean that he's going to stink the first two months of this season?

Cash in. I'd bet plenty of teams would give up something for a pitcher like Weathers this time of year. Maybe he could be packaged with Dave Williams (idea credited to M2) for a little bigger return.
