View Full Version : Dave Williams And His Rotation Spot

As of right now how can this guy be in the rotation? He is posting an 9.00 ERA and thats not including his blow up against Kia Tigers. If Wilson is healthy or at least 80% he should be our 5th starter. Does Williams have any options? I know you don't see many innings during ST but to give up an earned run every inning is pretty much going to knock us out of contention. Could Germano also make a run at a spot?

Dave Williams was torched for eight runs in 3 1/3 innings by the Braves today.
Williams has a 9.00 ERA and a 2.42 WHIP this spring, and that doesn't even count an ugly outing against the Kia Tigers of Korea on Feb. 28. There's a chance that he could lose his rotation spot prior to Opening Day, though that would almost surely require Paul Wilson being healthy enough to claim a job.

he shouldn't hvae a spot in the rotation regardles if wilsons healty ur not suppossed to get torched this bad in spring training

This team has three rotation spots to fill and no one, absolutely no one, to fill them. One thing's for certain this season: the Reds will get the fewest innings from their starters perhaps in the history of the franchise.

9.00 ERA on the Red's isn't that bad.

Just reminds me what a joke that Casey trade was.

As of right now how can this guy be in the rotation? there isn't anyone else at the moment. Sad situation, however, it is just spring training.

Remember Jimmy Anderson and Josias Manzanillo? Posting good numbers in spring training means nothing for the regular season.. the opposite can also be true. I am willing to give Dave the benefit of the doubt and see if he can improve when it comes time to go to Cincinnati

I was just ready post something similar. This could be a problem but you have to remember this is spring training. Narron has made it clear that Spring Training isn't the only criteria he'll be using through the Edwin Encarnacion situation. I think if Williams had an 18.00 ERA in ST, he would be in the starting rotation just because of the lack of pitching. There is no doubt in mind that Dave Williams will be in the Reds starting rotation come Opening Day unless he is injured.

If you are going by Spring Training stats then the Reds couldn't have gotten a good starting pitcher in return for Casey. Through Friday Paul Maholm had an ERA of 10.00 and Zach Duke had an ERA of 6.75 in Spring Training. I don't know about you but if I was basing my argument off of Spring Training stats I wouldn't want any 3 of those those pitchers instead of only not wanting Williams when I looked at the whole picture.

The Reds carried a starter with a ERA in the neighborhood of 7.00 for the entire season last year. This won't bother them a bit.

Not that I like being in a position to defend Dave Williams as a possible Reds starter.

But - to play a little devil's advocate - but being putrid in spring training is seemingly his MO


2005 - 24.0IP, 33H, 16ER, 8BB, 11K, 6.00ERA, 1.71WHIP


2004 - 2.0IP, 5H, 5ER, 2BB, 0K, 22.50ERA, 3.50WHIP


2003 - 1.0IP, 1H, 1ER, 2BB, 1K, 9.00ERA, 2.00WHIP


2002 - 20.2IP, 29H, 19ER, 11BB, 15K, 8.27ERA, 1.94WHIP

Maybe we could just forfeit every game that williams and milton are scheduled to start so the bullpen can recover for the games we have a chance to win.

Looking forward to the season, but the pitching looks to be very bad. As good as the offense could be, we can't score 10 runs per game every night to win.

Well...Kriv did say that he doesn't care about Spring Training stats, so I'm guessing Dave Williams will be in the rotation.
