without a doubt. he is a better defender and his LH power bat is a nice match for GABP(whereas Hatteberg GB doubles bat is a poor match for GABP). He posted a .388 OBP in a little over a hlaf season in Florida before Tracy buried him in LA. There is at least potential upside both offensively and defensively where there is none with hatteberg.

No! Choi was 'showcased' by the Dodgers during the WBC for this reason. He was half-way to useless for them and now they have an infield log-jam with the acquisition of Garciaparra & Furcal. I am on the "no Choi" bandwagon here. I have to admit I haven't see Hatteberg play since he was converted by the A's. I saw him with some mediocrity as a catcher in Boston. But is he REALLY that bad here?

He'll probably platoon with Tony Clark this season in AZ, but he is their future first baseman. It would probably cost a lot in terms of talent to pry him away from them.

He made 7 errors last year playing in just 53 games of first base with little offense. Everyone has to be thinking 2 things: One being we are not done dealing, or the Reds lineup is going to be very flexible with Dunn and Javier V seeing some time at first with Chris D shifting to the outfield when Hatteberg doesn't play.

Update: Choi might not make the team's Opening Day roster, reports the LA Daily News.

Recommendation: The Dodgers could theoretically release Choi if he clears waivers, thereby enabling them to pay just $178,000 of Choi's $725,000 contract. James Loney is set to be Triple-A Las Vegas' first baseman, so a minor league demotion appears unlikely. Look for Choi in another uniform come March 29th.

I'd think Shealy would be available. He's not a kid, he can only play 1B and Todd Helton's not going anywhere.

He has no value to the Rockies as a player because they officially ended the OF experiment which wasn't realistic anyway. First Basemen are not generally valuable trade commodities because there is never a really big trade market for their services as most teams already have one who is a good hitter.
