View Full Version : Would you take Hee-seop choi over Hatteberg

Hee-Seop Choi's time as a Dodger could be down to its final days, a situation hastened by James Loney's fast-arriving future. The Dodgers likely will make a decision before they break camp in Florida. If they release Choi by March 29, they would owe him approximately $178,000 in salary. -- Orange County Register

I realize this would be his fourth team in 3 years but he is younger and I would think he would be better definsively but again that is an assumption and you know what they say when you assume something

Yes. yes. yes.

I would take Choi over Hatteberg everyday of the week.

without a doubt. he is a better defender and his LH power bat is a nice match for GABP(whereas Hatteberg GB doubles bat is a poor match for GABP). He posted a .388 OBP in a little over a hlaf season in Florida before Tracy buried him in LA. There is at least potential upside both offensively and defensively where there is none with hatteberg.

I couldn't agree more. Choi over Hatteberg is the no brainer of all no brainers.

Is Hee-Seop Choi scrappy? If so, sign me up! :)

No! Choi was 'showcased' by the Dodgers during the WBC for this reason. He was half-way to useless for them and now they have an infield log-jam with the acquisition of Garciaparra & Furcal. I am on the "no Choi" bandwagon here. I have to admit I haven't see Hatteberg play since he was converted by the A's. I saw him with some mediocrity as a catcher in Boston. But is he REALLY that bad here?

I saw him with some mediocrity as a catcher in Boston. But is he REALLY that bad here?... even worse BUT he is scrappy and knows how to play the game.

Choi was showcased because they don't have a roster spot for him and he isn't in their future plans.

Yes, when he is hot he can carry a team for a few weeks. Not bad defensively either.

Three Year Splits

Hatteberg
348/384-.733

Choi
353/444-.797

Choi's, what, ten years younger? Something like that. I'd take him in a nano second over Hatteberg as a starter. I've got no problem with Hatteberg as a pinch hitter.

Does he Play The Game The Right Way? Does he Know How To Win? I don't think so. He also Strikes Out Too Much so the Reds wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

I would like any 1B other then Hatty.
I have a die hard A's fan as a freind.. met him online in an MVP league for ps2. We talk baseball all the time, and the dude str8 hates hatty, and apoligized to me because we had him.

I forsee alot of cussing him this season lol His Defense SUCKS.

honestly I think the Reds are more than happy to waste as many ABs as possible on a scrappy vet like hatteberg.

Womack
Hatteburg
Aurillia
Valentin
Menechino
McCracken

All in the lineup at the same time

Nothing say's "scrappy" like that.

BENDER!

You're getting your Narron cliches mixed up. It's "Playing The Game The Right Way" and "Knows How To Win". It's going to be a long season so you better get them straight. ;)

Maybe, but I'd rather have Dunn over Hatteberg and Deno over Dunn in left

Absolutely. Choi has always hit very well in the GAB. I predict a breakout year if he signs here.

Snagging Hee sop Choi off the scrap heap would be excellent! only deal that trumps that is Dodgers trading Choi for Womack:thumbup:

I've been away a while. Is Shealy a possibility? The Rox wanted quite a bit in trade for him from the Red Sox last year.

One kid I would love Krivsky to try and make a deal for would be Connor Jackson. What is his situation now in AZ?

He'll probably platoon with Tony Clark this season in AZ, but he is their future first baseman. It would probably cost a lot in terms of talent to pry him away from them.

KoryMac5

He made 7 errors last year playing in just 53 games of first base with little offense. Everyone has to be thinking 2 things: One being we are not done dealing, or the Reds lineup is going to be very flexible with Dunn and Javier V seeing some time at first with Chris D shifting to the outfield when Hatteberg doesn't play.

Hee Seop Choi: On the Bubble

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Wednesday, March 22, 2006
Update: Choi might not make the team's Opening Day roster, reports the LA Daily News.

Recommendation: The Dodgers could theoretically release Choi if he clears waivers, thereby enabling them to pay just $178,000 of Choi's $725,000 contract. James Loney is set to be Triple-A Las Vegas' first baseman, so a minor league demotion appears unlikely. Look for Choi in another uniform come March 29th.

What was the deal that ultimately fell through?

I'd think Shealy would be available. He's not a kid, he can only play 1B and Todd Helton's not going anywhere.

As for Choi, I'd like to see the Reds get him just to drive the contact-is-king folks crazy.

He has no value to the Rockies as a player because they officially ended the OF experiment which wasn't realistic anyway. First Basemen are not generally valuable trade commodities because there is never a really big trade market for their services as most teams already have one who is a good hitter.

There's a Dodger Nation???

They can't even be the #1 team in their general populace.
