Bottom of the 1st. Secret Service agents have evacuated the President from the building after hearing that there was a meltdown in process outside.

The beloved Tony Womack leads things off -- immediately getting respect from Carlos Zambrano in the form of 3 balls. The ump decides to finally call a high strike on the 3-0 pitch. All for not. Womack draws a base on balls.

He yells out his hatred for OBP all the same.

1 on, 0 out.

Felipe Lopez steps in -- let's see that vaunted Womack speed on the basepath now. WGN describe the speed as "Terrific" -- I detected a hint of sarcasm.

Bot. 1st, 2 out, 2nd and 3rd.

The SLG challenged Scott Hatteberg checks in for his first Reds AB. He works the count a bit, because that's what he's paid to do. The count runs to 3-2 -- WGN announcers comment that the radar gun isn't working. This is probably as a favor to Brandon Claussen.

Reds quacking with ducks on the pond, 2 outs.

Austin Kearns up, hacking at a bad ball up on the first pitch. He thinks long and hard about swinging at an even worse pitch, but decides otherwise. Kearns forces Zambrano to labor a bit, fighting every instinct to hack. The count runs full, and I predict a strikeout.

KEARNS WITH A DRIVE...that falls short as Matt Murton makes the leaping catch.

Bottom of the 2nd, Reds with unfinished business.

Javier Valentin with a DEEP DRIVE that just doesn't have the distance. Back to back ABs off Zambrano that are a combined, maybe, 2 feet from going yard.

Oh well, almost only counts in horseshoes and handgranades.

Felipe Lopez (1-1) steps in. "Great Speed" on 2nd, or so I'm told. I'll believe it when I see it. Lopez taps it in front of the plate and then committs the single most unforgiveable little league sin by not running immediately just in case it's fair. In this case, it was fair and he gets thrown out.

That'll be laps after practice.

Derrek Lee steps in. I'm not a betting man, but if I was, Derrek Lee was a fluke last year and he'd do well to cash in immediately. I'm hoping that, at any rate.

Jacque Jones hits the ball deep and flips the bat arrogantly in a Mark McGwire-like fashion. The Baseball Gods frown upon such displays of hubris and promptly grant Adam Dunn immortal powers of glove, enabling him to make a great catch on the wall and rob Jones of a hit.
