All those days off he gave Dunn, Griffey and certain other vets in spring training, inserting scrubs in the lineup. Instead of working on their tans in Florida, they should have been doing daily defensive drills and playing in more games so they weren't so rusty come Opening Day.

As the weather improves, so should Dunn and Griffey's defense. But still, Narron let them goof off all spring, and now, we're seeing the sloppy results. Both players get paid enough to pay more attention.

Their offense is undeniable, but on the defensive side of the ledger, both are really liabilities. They share the responsibility with Narron for falling even further behind the curve. They slacked off this spring, while our manager didn't see fit to call them on it.

No, I mean, new this year: a cheerleading team. While I enjoyed the dozen or so tiny girls in tight, skimpy clothing, it did seem a wee bit out of place at a baseball game.

The quote of the day came from Chris Welsh when Dunn made his unofficial 3rd error of the game in the 6th when he fell down. Welsh said, "Hes going to get himself hurt out there." That made me laugh after watching this horrific game.

Good: It's Opening Day. A bad day at the ballpark is still better than a good day at work. Also, because it was so cold, we skipped batting practice and went to the Hall of Fame museum. That was a good couple hours, well worth the $5.

Bad: The weather. That was just horrible baseball weather. I'm not saying it was the only reason for the bad defense, but I think the wind did have something to do with it. I wouldn't have wanted to be in that outfield today.

Ugly: Besides the bullpen and the defense, some of the drunken fans sitting near me, especially the three Cubs fans who kept sitting on the backs of their chairs so those of us behind them couldn't see over their heads. One of them bragged to his buddy that he was going to run onto the field and he made it onto the dugout before the security guard nabbed him. I for one am upset with the way the President's appearance was handled. I got their an hour before the game (I had school), and ended up waiting for an hour and 15 minutes (missing the top of the first) because we were stuck in the back two gates. Both gates (in CF and along third base line) had huge lines and no one from GABP/security even bothered to tell us that the main gates had no lines.

Im not a big fan of the President (I wouldn't have booed), but personally I would have rather had anybody else throw the pitch for lesser security to make the event more functional.

Still, overall I had a good expierence and really enjoyed the day.

I was at the game. Yes, there was some poor plays, but left field was very difficult tonight. I never have been to a game where the wind and weather was so bad. EE did make one incredible play at 3rd on a bunt, but then sucked on one he knew was coming. It has to get better. Some tough luck tonight, but nice to see some good things from the newcomers and Kearns almost hit a grand slam. Also, Dunn had a sac fly in the 1st game with a HR so he was not all bad tonight. I was sad to hear the fans boo him like that. It was BS in my opinion.

Seeing the President was also very cool.

My oldest daughter called me from DC after the game and said, "My God, all our runs came from home runs or sacrifice flies! We can't be doing that all year - let's get some other hits!". Most telling was Kearns' AB in the 1st - a base hit there is two runs.

I hollered for Dunn to show up for fielding practice tomorrow. The two he had to come in on, he's got to get better breaks on those. And he's got to trust himself going to the wall. He got there in time, pulled off for the carom and it hit right where he had been.

Oh my, what a bitterly cold day at the ballpark, way too long particularly given the long, long time we had to wait at GABP just so the president could throw out a pitch. Please don't do that again, please!

I respect the office, but I was heartsick at the wild cheering for this man who make Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan look like giants in comparison. I'll leave it at that. I sat in my chair and prayed.

Sounds to me like they got an idea after scouting Winter Ball teams and following the WBC. I seem to recall that cheerleaders, or something like it, are quite common in Caribbean ball.

I didn't get to see the game today so perhaps I shouldn't have rushed to judgement. From the way it sounded, they were parked on the dugouts for the entire game. If they are just there for pregame and between innings, then that's a little more palatable.

Not to make any excuses, because he didn't make pitches when he had to, but the Gerry Davis gave Harang a strike zone about the size of a teacup in the first inning. Very tough to get hitters out when pitches below the letters that should have been called strikes are called balls and pitches knee high were also called balls.

However, I do agree, not much to cheer about when you lose 16-7.

I understand. I actually didn't even notice they were chearleaders until they were right in front of me. I thought it was a local dance team or something. If you didn't sit close it probably wasn't noticed by everyone.
