Undefined, approaching infinity if I remember my calculus correct. either way not good.

This pitching staff is plain awful. I knew it would be, but that doesn't make it any more comforting to watch it implode.

Saturday's lineup is going to look interesting. You have to think Junior is going to sit. Does Deno play CF or does Freel? We are playing another lefty, does 0 for 10 get another start at first? Ross caught last night at has less then 13 hours to recover, does he catch?

My guess is that the lineup is
1. Freel 2b
2. Felipe SS
3. Dunn LF
4. Edwin 3B? maybe
5. Valentin C
6. Kearns RF
7. Hatteberg 1B
8. Deno CF

thoughts? Anyone else want to take a stab?

Don't sweat it. All the guy does these days is troll the board and hand out negs.

Handing out two negs a day for him is right up there with his daily BM.

I got rep points taken away for my old signature, "Dunn has chunks in his stool that are tougher than WMP." They said it was "offensive." Wow...has it come to this? Our bullpen is a lot more offensive than that signature line!
I think some people who take away points do it because it's a "power" thing to them. They have very little power in their own lives and this gives them so sort of meaning.

Of note is the good job the starting pitching is doing while he BP is stinking it up. Through 4 games, if you negate Harang's stinker in the opener, Reds starters (Arroyo, Claussen, and Milton) have given up 17 hits in 18 2/3 innings and only 8 earned runs. No starting pitcher, with the exception of Harang on Monday, has allowed a walk. The ERA in the last three games is 3.87.

The bullpen is something else again. In four games, the BP has already pitched 12 1/3 innings, giving up 18 hits and 14 runs, 11 of them earned. They've walked 7! The ERA is 8.05. Sad story is Chris Hammond has faced 5 hitters and has yet to get an out while allowing 3 hits, walked one and allowed 4 runs. An ERA cannot be calculated for him.

Makes one wonder who was picking this bullpen as they headed north, doesn't it?

Saturday's lineup is going to look interesting. You have to think Junior is going to sit. Does Deno play CF or does Freel? We are playing another lefty, does 0 for 10 get another start at first? Ross caught last night at has less then 13 hours to recover, does he catch?

My guess is that the lineup is
1. Freel 2b
2. Felipe SS
3. Dunn LF
4. Edwin 3B? maybe
5. Valentin C
6. Kearns RF
7. Hatteberg 1B
8. Deno CF

thoughts? Anyone else want to take a stab?

I like the lineup, except for Valentin. He just can't hit lefties (Krono reminded me of that earlier). IMO, slide everyone up and stick Valentin in the 8 slot. Can't wait to see Aaron rebound tomorrow. Hopefully he can go 9:help:

I'd like to see Austin bumped up in the lineup a bit. I'm waiting for him to breakout this year playing everyday and think he'll be up to 5 before long. Just a comment in general, not on your lineup.

CINCINNATI --- Eric Milton had to wait out some miserable weather Friday before he could finally put his miserable 2005 season behind him once and for all.
Thunderstorms and steady rain delayed the Reds and Pirates first pitch by two hours, 25 minutes. With Milton's seven impressive innings and two home runs by Felipe Lopez in Cincinnati's 7-6 win, the long evening wasn't time wasted for the 16,573 fans that remained at Great American Ball Park.

In his 2006 debut, Milton allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts. In the last three games, all Reds wins, the starters (Bronson Arroyo, Brandon Claussen and Milton) have not walked a single batter.

The Reds were already leading by a 1-0 score before they opened things up with a four-run third inning. Ryan Freel was on first base with a leadoff walk when Lopez launched Paul Maholm's 1-0 offering over the center-field fence for a two-run homer.

Austin Kearns' two-out, two-run double later in the third stretched the lead to five runs.

Meanwhile, Milton kept Pittsburgh out of scoring position for the first five innings until Nathan McLouth's leadoff double in the sixth. Two batters later, former Red Sean Casey deposited a two-run homer into the right-field seats and made it a three-run game.

Milton was finished after striking out McLouth in the seventh with his 94th pitch of the night. It was a promising start to his season after he went 8-15 with a 6.47 ERA last season in the first year of a three-year $25.5 million free agent deal he signed with Cincinnati.

Leading off the bottom of the seventh, Lopez jumped on reliever John Grabow's first pitch and cleared the center-field fence again. It was the shortstop's first two-homer game since Sept. 4, 2001, while with the Blue Jays.

Reds reliever Todd Coffey gave up two hits in the eighth, including Casey's one-out double, that led to a Pirates run. David Ross got the run back in the next half-inning with a long solo homer to left field off Matt Capps.

Chris Hammond pitched two two batters in the ninth and was charged with two runs without recording an out. David Weathers relieved Hammond and gave up a home run to Craig Wilson, struck out McLouth and walked Jose Hernandez and Casey before getting a force of Casey at third.

Kent Mercker came on and fanned Jeromy Burnitz to end the game.

I also think that Griffey and Ross will get the day off after the night game. (If it weren't for the very late finish to tonight's game, I would still start Ross tomorrow.) Denorfia will get his first start of the season in CF. As has been mentioned, Valentin is a lesser hitter from the starboard side, so he will hit eighth. I would like to see Kearns move up to fifth (or fourth with Edwin hitting fifth). I also think that Aurilia will still be at 1B, but hitting sixth--which is a better spot for him.

My lineup:

2B Ryan Freel
SS Felipe Lopez
LF Adam Dunn
RF Austin Kearns
3B Edwin Encarnacion
1B Rich Aurilia
CF Chris Denorfia
C Javier Valentin
P Aaron Harang

Hammond in 2 appearances has yet to retire a batter. I wonder how long he can keep it up.
I say he's here till May at least.

Old Red from the glory days and all that rot.

Here's my projection considering that a LH (Perez) will be on the mound...

1. Freel- CF
2. Lopez- SS
3. Denorfia- LF
4. Aurilia- 2B
5. Dunn- 1B
6. Encarnacion- 3B
7. Kearns- RF
8. Valentin- C
9. Harang- P

Now, no way should Aurilia be hitting in the 4 slot, but that's just Narron's thought process. Faster guys up front, give Jr. a rest, keep burying Kearns in the 7 slot, and Valentin has more experience catching Harang than does Ross.

That lineup will score 3 Runs and the Reds will lose 6-3.

If he retires a nex batter his ERA will raise up to 108.00, if he gives one more hit and retires the next hitter his ERA will be 135.00. Hammond won't retire anybody this season on purpose to avoid those numbers :).

I don't think they'll sit Jr. Why should they? We're only 4 games into the season.

You're gonna need as much offense as you can, batting against Perez.

But against Perez (10 A/Bs) he has nothing to show but goose eggs, with 5 K's.

NO way Deno is batting 3rd with Dunn and Edwin hitting 5th and 6th.

If you're improving the D late in the game you have to put Deno in
Bob Boone (who probably plays strat) would have done it.

9th inning, 4 run lead why not throw a fielder out there? They shouldn't be saving him for any at bast, he's young enough that he should be loose, why doesn't Denorfia take those last 3 outs?

I have Dunn on my strat team, and I've been simulating seasons and his defense is consistently a notch below average, his hitting, power and walks are also consistent, but he's easily the worst fielding outfielder I have on my team.

That's why there's a setting "replace with defense if there is a lead"

Someone needs to show Jerry where you can get to that setting for Dunn.
