2006 Home Run GAB totals

With the record being 303 at Coors Field in 1999. GAB this season has given up 17 in 4 games. Will keep track this season and break it down as the season goes along in this thread. On a side note Toronto is at the exact same pace as the Reds right now. Does anyone know of a site that tracks homers just by parks..........

Does anyone have past season totals at GAB. ESPN did say it gave up 246 last season.... A top ten all time #....and over the past 3 season US Cellular (White Soxs) is #1 homer park....Texas was #2 and GAB #3.

6 dingers tonight........only seen the highlights of a couple......at least 2 were cheap.........if fences were pushed back a little they stay in the park...........pace is now 8 games 29 home runs........

I don't know. They've got a team ERA of 4.19, good enough for 4th in the NL.

I thought they were using a humidor again to change moisture content of the balls...

I thought they were doing something new this year with the humidor, but I haven't been able to find the article I read, but this a least explains why its not the home run park most remember.

Interesting to note how hard it is for a reputation to die. I suspect for years afterwards, we will have to hear how extremely unfriendly GAB is to pitchers long after we lost our slugging team and our gopher ball pitchers.

Says the Rockies are storing the balls longer in the humidor this year, but aren't sure if thats the reason or not.

Or maybe we should get some good pitchers and bad hitters. Maybe that would decrease the HR totals.

Would be great to have good pitching.........but none is on the horizon.......

I'm not sure, but I think the reason it works on them there is because of the altitude. I don't know if it would have the same effect in GABP because the air outside the baseball is so different (calling all scientists...)

Used to be, now teams have to store them in a unified way. The White Sox in the 60's kept the balls in a dank closet, their groundskeeper was a legend.

I read the Rockies received special permission from MLB to store them the way they do. What Westofyou writes makes sense, otherwise there would be all sorts of weird things going on... well, more than currently is :)

The closet was in the basement of Comiskey, very dank, the balls would mildew and the boxes they were kept in were all moldy. It deadened the ball quite a bit. The WS were a weak hitting team with GB pitchers like Tommy John and Joe Horlan, so a dead ball plus very tall grass helped them alot. Their manager was Eddie Stanky and he was old school to the bone, taking each edge he could.

This all went down around the late 60's.

One cable channel (can't remember which one) had a feature on this the other night. The reporter spent a day with the man who provides the mud from the bank of some body of water and they showed how it is prepared and packaged and how the balls are rubbed down. I thought it was an interesting program. My wife fell asleep.

I seen on one of the baseball shows (Baseball Tonight?) that they put the baseballs in a humidor and the moisture makes the ball heavier. The one guy on there said it should be considered doctoring the ball, yet MLB allows them to do it.

If the Rockies can do it then the Reds should see about doing it.

Just to keep up with the original idea, if GAB was going to break the Coors record (303) it would need to have around 75hrs at 20 games.

Gator that site is cool.... Thanks for posting..... Yep Gully, GABP is slowing down big time now. I'm hoping the pace stays this way. I'm curious if it will spike up in the middle of summer heat. Seems like the The Cell, Skydome (or whatever they call it now) and Ameriquest are giving up bunches now. I'm little surprised Camden Yards is up there. Haven't even thought to check them out. I really want to hit that park sometime.

Funny how espn is featuring every park and they went on about how GABP as homer park and all the highlights were dingers.......still only one homerless game this season so far........on different note....batting average is .266, towards the bottom for that......home run happy yard and terrible for average......the espn guys claimed guys are looking to go yard there, causing the bad avg......go figure....
