Reds scored 38 runs in five games against some pretty good pitchers. They finally face a horrible pitcher...and they are getting shutout. I thought they knock Santos out by the fourth inning.

Santos not so much losing his control as the Reds have re-discovered that their success in this early season has been based, in part, on making pitchers labor and throw frustration pitches over the heart of the plate that can be driven.

This game is giving me flash backs of last year :(

It's giving me flashbacks of every single year- struggle against pitchers who should be thankful that there's enough major league teams and enough pitchers who go on the DL that they can actually say they pitched in the majors for a while. That's the only reason guys like Jimmy Anderson and Tommy Phelps were briefly Reds pitchers or in Reds camps- they befuddled us.

Of course, maybe now the offense will come. Nice way to get us started by our good glove/weak bat/bad attitude middle infielder and then by Ryan Freel's arch nemesis. Or not... Womack's out at the plate.

Just to point it out, Williams Line is now as good as Santos not including the Unearned Run. I think he did a nice job and now the reds are still in the thick of it. Even though folks here are happy to see the negatives, I think this is a good sign for this club. What happens with the bullpen of course is another question all together.

Watch them lose by one run because of that poor baserunning.

Or terrible defense which gave Bucs their 3rd run of the game. Being aggressive on the basepaths is one thing, but not being able to make solid defensive plays is much worse IMO. Griff in CF is the 800 pound gorilla in the room that nobody wants to take to task.

For all those who think lefty versus lefty is unimportant, keep that Dunn at bat in mind.
Also let's not forget that *stuff* is what creates the illusion of a strike to the batter, it's not just some joker tossing 3 *balls* at Dunn and him being poor at contact, it's the pitcher schooling Dunn by feeding Dunn's weakness (hard junk from LH's) with his strength (the slider).

Tracy brought that guy in for that reason and it worked.

Good job by Grif.

It just depends. It was talked about somewhere else on here regarding Freel stealing third- though I would have more confidence in Freel stealing third than I would Lopez. It did set up the possiblity of Lopez scoring in some manner other than a base hit- wild pitch, passed ball, sac fly, ground ball to second or short perhaps.

In general I'd agree it's a bad risk, but since he was safe, I stick by my original statement of nice steal by Lopez.:p:
