So, the missus comes home today with a cardboard box and low-and-behlod, there is an adorable orange kitten in it. She tells me it's only for a week as her friend from work can't keep them all .

We already have a 4 yo and a 3yo cat in our small apt. I'm not thrilled with this, but damn if he isn't cute as all hell.

That being said, any suggestions on how to introduce "Runy" to the other two etc?

TIA

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW :)

What worked for us was keeping the 2 cats apart but letting them get the scent of the other, we'd keep them in sep rooms then exchange rooms a few times over, they ended up being best buddies :)

How long of a time period are we talking?

We live in a SMALL one bedroom apt. right now, so the only room we could put the lil'un in and close a door is the bathroom...is it ok to leave him in there all alone?

*new to the kitten thing*

Well ok, cool.

Well, not knowing any better, I brought him into the bedroom and both the other cats came up to him and sniffed him, but I was sitting right next to him in case of just that. The oldest and more mellow of the two, but still feisty at times, seemed a lil confused and apprehensive, but just sniffed. Meanwhile, lil Runy fell asleep

The younger of the two, was REAL apprehensive, as in, "WTF is that thing", but got a sniff or two in and that was that. No animosity (sp?), yet.

Also, I should note that the two older ones are fixed females and the lil'un is a 6 wk old male.

Just keep a door betweeen them, maybe give the kitten a blanket that is fresh and let the kitten sleep on it, then the next day let the other cats smell it (they'll know it's from that thing on the other door) maybe do the same for the kitten.

Be slow in the introduction, 3 is a new dynamic, sometimes one of them gets peeved.

Hang on to him. I, too, live in a one-bedroom apartment and I had a calico at one time (also used to be owned by one of my former bosses) for about four months. Was declawed and had to stay indoors but had the itch to go outside. One night, she darted out of the door and into the field across the street from the parking lot, never to be seen or heard from again.:(

I still miss her.:(

Pretty cute. My wife got a new puppy... a pekingese. We have had him for about a month now. My 12 year old cat, and her 10 year old daughter are not thrilled.

His name is Chewie. True to his name, he ate my cat 5 cable to my computer.

Orange male cats. I love 'em. They get in so much trouble and they try to act fierce and independent, but they really love attention, and when they bond with you, they're sweeter than almost any other cats.

Cats scare the crap out of me. He looks so cute there by the remote, and then in one minute he's going to get up, fly across the room, swat at your eye four times, then lie back down and go to sleep. You just wait.

I don't think I could sleep with a cat in the house.

Be slow in the introduction, 3 is a new dynamic, sometimes one of them gets peeved.

Or sometimes two of them get peeved.

We've had two cats for a few years- Boomer and Yokozuki. Boomer's handicapped (birth defects involving his front legs and paws) and Yoko arrived after we agreed to "babysit" her for a neighbor while his wife was pregnant. They got along fine after a little bit.

Then we acquired Stitch last Christmas after a neighbor found her half frozen outside our house. The introductions did not go well. Yoko is very protective of Boomer. Boomer wants nothing to do with Stitch but Stitch wants everything to do with Boomer.

The daily result? Stitch tries to play with Boomer. Boomer hisses. Yoko walks up and pops Stitch on the head. Stitch walks away to play with something that won't hiss or pop her on the head.

I have never been much of a cat fan, especially black ones. My wife wants to get another cat, and I told her "no way." The last one we had was crazy with a capital "C". She gets them and I end up taking care of them.

Now we're to "If you get one, it has to be a "yellow" one to match the dog." I'm still hoping for "no cat at all."

Here's our trifecta...

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n211/SteelSD/P1010005.jpg

That's Boomer-roo. If his front paws look messed up, that's because they are. Genetic defect. Elbows joints fused on the front legs. Only two toes on the front right paw. Left paw is at a 90-degree angle to his left front leg. Doesn't know and doesn't care. Tail is about 3 inches too long, which supports him standing on his hind legs a lot. Moonwalks better than Michael Jackson in his prime. Best...cat...ever. He'll pass away eventually but cannot possibly be replaced in any way, shape, or form.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n211/SteelSD/P1010006.jpg

Stichywizz. Small cat. Probably won't get a lot bigger. With her attitude, she doesn't need to. In a better picture her face looks like it's on fire; red ear tufts and all. Currently guarding the wife's wine stash. Not a cat to be trifled with. Pees entirely too often outside the litterbox. To the chagrin of her housemates, she has an incredible "play" motor. If you want to play, she wants to play. If you don't want to play, she still wants to play. Much ear-flattening and hissing ensues.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n211/SteelSD/P1010007.jpg

Yokozuki. Entirely ticked off that she has to be photographed...ever. Entirely ticked off that Stich was ever born. Neurotic to a fault. Loosely translated to English, her name means "Someone who is crazy about something but not very good at it." Yoko is crazy about being a cat but she just isn't very good at it. A great petting to her involves thumps to the back of the rear just in front of her tail. She's like a dog without the loyalty.

So cute! We have similar Feline Politics in the house. Tia owns the 3rd floor. Ling owns the 1st. The second floor is somewhat neutral.

Whenever they lay within 10 feet of each other, it's something to note. They do let each other share food dishes. Ling waits patiently while Tia eats.

Ling is twice the size of Tia, but Tia's older and asserts her dominance whenever possible.

I'm a total cat person, I like their independance and their quiet, non needy existance.

That's all pretty new to me, I grew up with a dog and no cats, and always wanted a a dog I thought......

However I prefer non Tabbys myself, Tabbys are the dogs of the cat world they love everything and everyone.

I have 2 brothers that are a Maine Coon and Persian mix, one is the Runt and the other the king of the litter, the Runt (Pez) is spunky and a spaz, the Big one (Hoss) is mine, I belong to him, I have never had a animal that loved me as much as that cat does.

He weighs about 15 pounds and the little one 12, they get along great and spend most of their time lounging around together or within each others sight.

After a week we are almost past the pissin-and-hissin acclimation period. I actually saw them rubbing noses and licking each other yesterday. Then, last night about 3a whilst Molly is lying on her waterbed (my fat gut), Wing decides to start a fight. I came up out of bed with two cats flying, my CPAP hose wrapped around my neck and reaching for my Smith. Wish I had video of that.

Here's our three...

Dan Rather is the orange one. Nice looking but dumb as a post. He loves to lay in the sun, curl up with the dog and is prone to running wildly around the house at 10:30pm for no apparent reason. He's gotten himself into more trouble just by being...well...slow. He's rolled on his back trying to be cute and rolled completly over and off the bed on more than one occasion. Then he gets up and looks at you with those big dumb eyes.

Lita is manic depressive. One minute you sneeze suddenly, her tail puffs up she hisses and runs off. The next minute she is forcing herself on you and basically making you pet/rub her. As you can tell in the picture she likes to curl up with Dan durring the day. They are usually in the 2nd bedroom or bay window sleeping away the day and storing up energy so they can chase each other as we are trying to fall asleep.

The black cat burried in the yellow blanket is Bif-Gif. She's a bandit. She'll try to steal about any pieice of food so you must remain on guard at all times. She's made off with slices of pizza and chicken wings more than once. She's the one most likely to whap one of the other cats on the face and then run off as if nothing happened. She's the "alpha-cat" and the 50lbs hound dog stears clear of this feline.
