Milty's a good hitter for a pitcher.

GAC

I'm not saying that even 100% he's good, but his defense so far this year should be classified as a crime against humanity under international law.

Lets keep the UN out of this. Look what happen to Milosevic? ;)

Patrick Bateman

So do we switch he and Freel? I still think Freel is a better fielder than EE at 3B....it would be worth a switch of positions to have both bats in the lineup.

What reasoning is there that EE would be a good OF since he has never done it in his life?

IMO, EE is vastly superior to Freel at 3rd. I don't see this working.

Milton through 6IP:
95 Pitches-66 Strikes

Grounders/Fly balls 5-8

6 Hits 3 Runs 2 ER 2 BB 5 K's 1 HR 2.77 ERA :)

Not bad but i think thats it he's more then likely done for today with 95 pitches

Well, they're saying he may play tomorrow, definately Saturday.

Lopez at 2B and Phillips at SS would be a strong combo...as good a SS as Lopez is I think he would be a better 2B.

So do we switch he and Freel? I still think Freel is a better fielder than EE at 3B....it would be worth a switch of positions to have both bats in the lineup.

But you do that by simply starting Ryan at 2b. ;)

04-13-2006, 04:07 PM
I thnink we should move Dunn to 1B, EE to LF, Denorfia to CF, Freel to 3B, Lopez to 2B and Phillips to SS...radical changes but it is a better defensive team than anything we have put on the field to this point this year.

This is a repeat...what do you think?

Uh, what are you doing with Griffey? And don't say, "Trade him." You can't trade him without his explicit permission.

Also, 3B is Freel's worst position. Why move him there, when EZ-E is the Reds' best defensive 3B?

Also, I don't think that moving so many players defensively is a good idea. Furthermore, I read something that Pete Rose once said about changing positions. Players don't respond well to being told that they are moving. But if they are asked to change, and it is explained how it will improve the team, then they are more receptive.

I'd consider having him try to squeeze one more inning out today. The longer you avoid going to the bullpen, the better. But if you send him out for the 7th, you have to have somebody up and ready to go at the first sign of problems.

We'll find out in just a minute.

westofyou
04-13-2006, 04:08 PM
I still think Freel is a better fielder than EE at 3B.

I'm fairly certain that the Reds hate Freels defense at 3rd way more than any other place they can put him.

Doesn't mean he won't try...but remember what Junior said...he said that last year if he couldn't perform at a level as high as he did...he would have retired. If this tightness in his knee turns out to be anything more than a brief stint on DL...he will walk.

Scott Williamson is your new pitcher, stay tuned kids, this could get fun.

DAVEY ROSS up to lead the inning off. Williamson letting pitches fly with seemingly no idea where they're going to end up -- nice to see that some things never change. The count runs 2-2 on a couple fouls and a couple of balls that went all the way to the backstop.

Ross grounds over to Nefi Perez, who makes the diving stop and throws Ross out easily across the infield. Nefi's good, but Ross is REALLY slow.

ERIC "YARDBALL" MILTON up next. He takes ball 1 as a helpful Cubs fan yells for him to swing. Honestly, if I was facing Williamson, I'd just stand there and act interested. I have to believe I'd have a better than 50/50 shot of getting walked (or drilled in the forearm). Milton runs the count to 2-2 before getting rung up on a splitter.

I question the call of letting him pitch the next inning -- just saying.

I've been told by a beat writer covering the team that Dunn is incredibly lazy, especially when it comes to working on his defense. One of the reasons he wasn't wild about playing first is it requires more work. He'll shag a few flies then call it a day. I guess it's a real frustration for the coaching staff (and I'm assuming front office, although I don't know this). Everyone believes he could be a great player, but he's satisfied being a good slugger.

Anyway, when they eventually trade the guy, don't think this won't be a factor in their decision.

That's the kind of play that used to give him trouble, now I don't even worry slightly when he gloves the ball. It's time for the Reds to get him locked up.

I hope Mike Burns continues to play consecutive innings. Remember he used to be a starter in AAA and found a role playing mid-relief in the ML. He needs to find his rythm and playing for 2 innings will help. You guys need to realize that he's a control pitcher and will put the ball in play for the defense. He's a 2nd year player and has played with the greats on the Astros last year being his rookie year. Look for improvements and I expect him to be key as the season rolls on. My 2 cents

This is a lie, and if your telling the truth, that beat writer should be fired. You're a newbie, so I will give you a freebie. But you need to know here that Dunn is not going to be traded. Dunn being traded is like the Bird Flu, yeah it could happen, but we don't talk about it.

BRANDON PHILLIPS up next, for what I predict will be an extremely anti-climactic at bat. He runs the count to 3-1, showing a little bit of plate discipline. Howry brings the count back full and induces a popup to Lee in the bullpen down the 1st base side.

3 outs, but Reds in business. 8-3

Starbucks Boy still your hurler for the Reds. Fortunately, he's one of the few bullpen arms that don't induce instant hurling from the fans.

DERREK LEE, looking well fed from his new contract, up to lead the inning off. He gets the count to 3-1 and takes a fastball on the corner at the knees to run full. He then takes ball 4 in about the same place, but the ump sees it differently.

Leadoff walk = not what's needed with 5 run lead.

RE: Lineup

Jerr,

Just wanted to take a minute from filing extensions for the procastinators of the world to let you know things are going great so far this year. However, it seems that you have mistakenly continued to write the name "Rich Aurilia" on the 4th line of the lineup card, and just wanted to bring this to your attention. Hopefully, we'll see this change tomorrow. Maybe try writing "Adam Dunn" in there against right handers and "Austin Kearns" against lefties.

Thanks in advance. Call me if any questions.

Apparently the Cubs' announcers see the Reds a "bad team".

This is a general problem with the Cubs' announcers and fans. They have such a sense of entitlement about their own team that they're really not paying attention to others at times.
