no conspiracy theory at all. Just look at his past history as a Red. Every injury has been downplayed when it occured.

I agree. Not a conspiracy theory just trying to be funny. Reds FO conspiracy maybe. Castellini and Kremchek are the ones on the "Grassy Knoll".

Ryan Freel, as a result of all these walks, is now seeing close to 4.5 pitches per AB, and is currently playing at triple his career BB/K ratio.

He's developed a fantastic eye in the offseason and it's paying huge dividends. A leadoff man that can walk at this kind of clip is beyond worth his weight in gold.

As a 1B solution, I have no problem with Aurillia if the FO is hellbent on not playing Dunn or Griffey there.

I only have a problem with Aurillia if he's bumping Lopez, Freel or Easy-E from the lineup.

Not really. Dunn is due up seventh in the ninth inning, so we need defense more than offense. And if we do need offense when we get to his spot in the order, Griffey fills the bill nicely.

I'd really REALLY R-E-A-L-L-Y like an insurance run or 6 here. That way, a long fly by AP doesn't hurt us. Otherwise, imo, you HAVE to put the tying run on in AP. Agreed?

But the move is made to maximize the defense behind the questionable staff, holding the player in despite being 7 AB's away from his slot in a 3 AB game seems defeatist.no the idea is to play probable outcomes. Is improved defense likely to have a bigger impact in 2 innings then an AB 7 players away with a bad bullpen. I would say the odds of LF defense being important is likely less than a potential AB in the 10th.

It is when the LF you are replacing gets to 58% of the balls hit to the OF vs the LF coming in that gets to 76%.

Yep, me either, sends a bad message to the club and it ignores the whole reason you have a bench.

BTW I have Dunn in Strat and I bat him lower against LH's and replace him with Dave Roberts with the lead... because IMO defense does matter as well as splits.

See, I disagree. I wouldn't play for extra innings when I have the lead.you don't play for extra innings you look at probable outcomes. What is more likely, for QM to make a play that Dunn wouldn't in the next 2 innings or to Dunn to have an impact on a game that goes past 9. I think the latter is the more probable outcome, especially without a quality closer and having GB pitchers(Coffey and Weathers) coming in too pitch the next two innings.
