Yes, amazing plate discipline by EE, after hitting a 2-run homer, he is able to take those close pitches for a walk.

And Brandon Phillips! Ronnie Belliard must be a heck of a ballplayer.

God, this lineup looks devastating at times. How many serious Reds fans are there in the country? Conservatively, say 1 million. Let's start a donation pot, everyone gives in $10 to get some pitching.

I say we take dsmith421's idea and put Milton in the stocks and let people pay to pelt him with tomatoes.

Nice work by Belisle tonight.

If he can control his pitches other than his fastball more consistently, he could be pretty good. I think it's time to start him in Williams' place in the rotation.

Even if he remains not so pitch efficient, he would still likely be a much better option than Dave Williams because he at least has one "out" pitch.

It's a legitimate concern. He's definitely not going to hit .350 and slug .600 all year.

At the same time, he's never been one to walk much, so it's not anything out of the ordinary for him.

There is a bit of concern from me. He could turn into a "semi-Vlad" in that he gets on through a lot of contact, but I somehow doubt it. If he can learn to draw some BB, he could be a darn good player, IMO. The HR would probably come even more frequently for him.

Although in all fairness, he hadn't proven much in the bigs before coming to the Reds, so he really doesn't seem to be getting a huge number of balls thrown. But if he keeps smashing the ball, he will probably get pitched around a bit more. How he reacts(patience or lack thereof) will show us whether he is ready to take that next step.

Do you think Brandon Phillips' performance will cost the Reds a better prospect? Sometimes these player to be named later deals are dependant on the performance of the player being traded. If he does well, the Indians get to choose from the A list agreed upon before Phillips played an inning for the Reds.

I'd like to see "that player" be named sooner rather than later...

That reminds me of a quote from Phillips that I read recently where he said it was nice to be with a team that tells him exactly how they want him to hit. Apparently, CC is driving home that Phillips is a singles hitter and it looks like it's working. I'm surprised someone didn't communicate that to him MUCH earlier in his career.

I think the starting pitching isn't as bad off as the bullpen. I think one starter, two relievers and improved defense will make them contenders. Brandon Phillips can improve the 2B position and with hard work, EE and FeLo can also take their defensive game to another level.

Agreed. He still has yet to prove himself in the rotation, though his relief appearances in Williams's last two starts has earned him an opportunity to try out for a starting job, IMO.

The weird thing about Belisle is that he's pitched really well when he's made emergency starts for guys that had to pull out at the last minute or in these kinds of long-relief situations when a starter gets knocked out early, but he's struggled when given a couple of starts as a member of the rotation.

Maybe Narron should move him into the rotation and not tell him. :)

The Reds have gotten off to such an amazing offensive start on the season, they only have to average 4.98 runs/game to tie the franchise record for runs scored in a season.
It can be done.

I think the starting pitching isn't as bad off as the bullpen. I think one starter, two relievers and improved defense will make them contenders. Brandon Phillips can improve the 2B position and with hard work, EE and FeLo can also take their defensive game to another level.

We also have to reposition some of our guys.

I hope Dunn will be willing to go to 1B, and Griffey will be willing to go to LF. This would improve our defense greatly in my opinion.
a) We'll have a more consistant LF in Griffey
b) More speed in Center with Freel
c) EE and the rest of the infield will have a larger target at first base, this should reduce some throwing errors
